Marathon training
you guys and gals are awesome, truly. literaly my whole office runs, 5k's 10k's marathons, two out of 28 did the Ironman tri a few months back. I am looking forward to someday running without dying lol. please keep us all informed, its inspiring and helpful. To think if i get my wish in a while i could work up to running my home marathon here in Boston. Whew thats an emotional rush thinking about it. ( im only 3.5 weeks post op right now lol.) One good thing is my company has a benefit where they pay any entry fees and costs associated with a 5k 10k or marathon or road race or obstacle thing. etc. ( in the US) and grants time off for it as well. You guys rock!

So I woke up in the middle of my colonoscopy...
I actually decided once to not take any drugs during an endoscopy. I hated IV's that much that they said well you don't HAVE to be sedated. So I said SURE lets do it! People, on that day I was an idiot. it was one of the most horrible and embarrassing things. You constantly burp huge burps from all the air they blow in, plus you are constantly gagging and trying to throw up, of course, you can't. But so much saliva just pours out of your mouth you feel like a bulldog looking at a steak. So you're drooling all over, gagging and burping every other second, while the doctor has the bite block in your mouth. I was surely not the smart one on that day lol.

Workout Music-Whats Your Song?
Hello all, I have been compiling my favorite workout music, but sometimes you just forget how many great songs there are out there. So let me ask what is your favorite workout song or songs that move you during a workout? Being an Ex-DJ I have about 50 thousand songs left in my database, maybe we could put together an official BP Workout Song playlist even. Oh also if anyone ever wants to have a favorite song made into a workout song, that is adding a beat behind it etc so you have that great thump thump, i can do that. free of course. I did a whole bunch of Metallica and the like, songs for my old Physical therapist who also runs those boot camps everyone is involved in. came out great. Just let me know. Ill start, My fave workout song is -Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue.

anybody here do kickboxing?
I think youre referring to the sport of kickboxing as opposed to kickboxing cardio or a thousand other names for that like tae bo etc. But real kickboxing is a heck of a workout. I used to take it along with Shaolin Kempo and Tae Kwon Do in my younger days. its great for a workout and teaches some great flexibility and strength as well. as far as stresses, well if you have hip issues or lower back or knee, I would probably talk to whatever dojo you want to try first. Some tend to move very fast and those might be hindrances, but some will take any physical needs into account and you would do just fine. Either Way , with your past accomplishments here, you will kick butt at whatever you decide to do.

Playing a musical instrument after surgery?
I sing and play guitar and while my guitar playing is easier now, ( not as big a belly in the way lol. it did take me about two weeks to get all the pain to go away from the surgery. only when I inflate my diaphragm , the surgeon mentioned having to go through abdominal muscle to remove the piece of stomach. But after that two weeks I actually had a bit more power now.

Nissen Fundoplication Surgery
A nissen has no relation to a gastric sleeve or plication in any way. The top of the stomach is wrapped around the esophagus to prevent acid from rising back up into the esophagus, it is used for people with a lot of vomiting, acid reflux and hiatal hernia, it does absolutely nothing to the stomach itself, there is no removal of tissues at all, nor any effort to make the stomach smaller. There may be some minor weight loss while healing, but that's it all regular eating habits are resumed within two weeks. The procedure has NO weight loss indications. Also just so its known morbidly obese patients are normally a contra-indication for a Nissens due to high failure rates, in that case the do recommend a gastric bypass to accomplish the same goals with weight loss as well. http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1892517-overview

Weight Lifting/ weight loss
I said the same thing in every post I made, that high rep low weight and circuit training is great when your aloowed. yet I was told here that my doc wont lt me weight lift because im not athletic and was picked on by jocks in high school...huh? but was called not a man and the one guy who tols the poster to eat raw ats and lots of carbs... is going against his doctors orders that upsets me, but dont worry about it. im not a bad person unlike some think but this site is not for me, too much drama, too much bull in other places so im having my account deleted, ill go it alone or join another site, this site, just isn't for me. good luck in your weight loss.

Weight Lifting/ weight loss
I have to do this again, but as I said MY DOC SAID ITS NOT FOR ME FOR 6 TO 8 MONTHS, I have a problem when you tell someone to ignore their doctors and nutritionist and just start eating oats and carbs , I mean seriously how dare you! I asked an honest question in why do you want to be bulky, and you freaked out. see you want to look like bruce smith, fine, I want to look like bruce lee, so cardio to lose the fat then ill do high rep low weight training, and circuit training to define my body . What I refuse to do is put muscle behind the fat increasing my weight . Why couldn't you leave that be? you swear than weight lifting is beter than cardio for burning calories. which is not true for a bariatric patient. why wont you understand the guy who asked the question wants to lose weight not gain it and he is only 6 weeks post op. damn have a heart. If im les of a man because I don't lift tons of weight well fine. whatever.

Since you all would rather attack than read. ill say good luck to you, do whatever you want i hope you dont screw up someone else. and ill erase all my posts. I never assumed there were so many people who would rather make personal attacks than accept an opinion for what it is.

Weight Lifting/ weight loss
Hey Doctor Randoval. two words, rhymes with duck cough. Jerseyjules- please explain how thousands of people on here are told by their doctors and nutritionists to do cardio cardio cardio, yet you say thats wrong, you say weight lifting is better than cardio. But I am supposed to believe you? when did you get your Medical license? But then again, if i want to be a real man like you I have to lift weights. i forgot.

Food/Supplement Questions for Post Surgery
for me my first two weeks, which was only a week or so ago was basically a Protein shake for breakfast ( im partial to the Syntrax nectars products) which was about 4 oz for 23 to 36 grams of protein. ( i use 1 and 1/2 scoops per shake) then Water liquids, ( propel, water with flavor it in it etc) and Jello sugar-free or sugar-free pudding every other day as a snack usually at nighttime. lunch was another shake or some Greek yogurt, dinner was a shake or a few times some broth when i just needed something hot. i never liked the premier products all the ready made Protein shakes tasted like , well very bad, to me. and you had to drink 20 ounces to get 30 grams of protein. i get more than that in 4 to 5 ounces of syntrax Cappuccino for example in + skim or 1% milk. I never had any problems getting in my protein this way. and i recommend the time marked water bottle , that a person on here created. you basically mark a water bottle with the times of day and how much you should have drank at that time and keep it with you at all times. it REALLY helped, if you need the picture to show you how, send me a message with your email and ill get it to you. good luck and you can do this. it aint easy but its worth it. oh for Vitamins heres a great easy one, Centrum adult chewables ( only come in orange flavored) 7 bucks a bottle take 2 a day have 100% of everything including the Iron. If you want some taste tests i do a bunch of video taste tests of protein shakes and flavors on my blog, feel free to check them out.

Curious -- could you have done it without Weight Loss Surgery?
Heck yes Im 3 weeks post-op and i still struggle with them, even though i see the weight loss and I have never been able to do this before i still wonder if I could've done it on my own. The simple answer is no, i lost 30 pounds in my pre op diet, that took 2.5 months. ive lost 30+ pounds in 3 weeks after surgery, so that is the ultimate difference is time, i could've done the weight loss if i had the will power to do a really aggressive diet and exercise plan for about 2 to 3 years. But I believe I can do this with the surgery in a year or less. so to me it was a matter of 3 years of losing or 1 year of losing then maintaining. also seeing the scale go down so fast is a great motivator to keep going. Look to yourself for the answers you need. Ask every little question you can think of, read every post you can, the more informed you are , the better off you will be.

Divorce after plastic surgery and/or bariatric surgery
its horrible for you to have to go through all this. The sacrifices that are made just to be healthy and not overweight are lost on people in general. No one thinks that an obese person is giving up anything in order to lose this weight. You are evidence of some of the harsher things that get sacrificed. I truly wish you well and wish you did not have to undergo this. You have your chin up and will to succeed , that I can see. You are a string person now and I wish you the best, in everything.

Frustrated and worried about husband...
Okay from a guys point of view who went through a lot let me give you some of my thoughts. I went through the exact same things. same comorbidities, etc but it took me 15 years to do something about it, now at 44 I had my surgery 2 and a half weeks ago. You probably cannot push him to get it nor do something about his weight. As a man we resist what we are told we MUST do. We are men and we think we know best.. I know what your all thinking but get over it, its how our minds work. Trust me, ive been there. you lose 5 or ten pounds and think your god and then you eat more to make up for the lost weight. Therapy wont help, if you want to do it you do it if deep inside you don't want to, then you wont it is that simple.

I want to give up
O dp wpnder how many people confuse their dietary stages. For me stage 3 after liquids only, was liquids and puress for 2 weeks, stage 4 for me is soft meats, ground meats, etc. mashed or soft veg, no fruits or anything raw. no white bread kind of stuff etc. so its easy to mistake stage 3 purees, for stage 4 purees so be careful.
