how to keep costs down and My Haul With Pics!
So im always concerned with the cost of shakes etc. So heres a great way to help. I wrote an email to premier letting them know I have a blog and I video taste test Protein shakes etc. So what did they do? They sent me the below items to try. Including their new smoothies which I wont be using for quite awhile but ill taste it for the sake of doing so. So free stuff is very good! I also watch a lot of auctions on EBay, and there I came across an auction no one had bid on for 9 fill shake and go bottles from about time, a new product that is really great due to its ease of use and the fact it only has 4 ingredients and a very very mild taste for all the flavors. So I paid a total with shipping of 8 bucks for 9 bottles. Merry Christmas to me. So there are ways to cut down these costs. Writing to these companies to get free samples is a definite way to help stretch your budget and find Protein Shakes you like.

Divorce after plastic surgery and/or bariatric surgery
Cowgirljane- I wasn't picking on anyone particular that's for sure. Just talking in generalizations. I have read many threads and know a few people who lose their old lifestyle to the point they forget who they were in becoming a new person. The sentiment of "why cant everything be the same with relationships" is impossible when you change the makeup of the people involved in it. I know of a gastric bypass patient who after doing wonderfully after surgery went on to change her entire life and become a personal trainer. Within a year she had alienated almost everyone she had been friends with prior to her surgery. The constant nagging of hey why don't you go gto the gym, or telling people " I can help you get into shape." along with other things like showing up to a superbowl part with a bender and ingredients for her favorite kale/spinach healthy smoothie as a potluck dish.. So I am saying that it is very probable that people can cause divorce not by the weight loss, but by the change in lifestyle, i.e. becoming that new person we all talk about. Ill give you the most basic change. If I, being post surgery now (I dream of getting off stage 3 lol) was to say to my wife that she couldn't have foods in the house, that I cant have ( she had French bread pizza for dinner the other night) by forcing that change on another person, I then become the tyrant so to speak. I change myself, but I will never force others to change to suit my change. that's all I meant.

Divorce after plastic surgery and/or bariatric surgery
in talking with people, Ive seen a recurring theme, when one person make themselves into a new person its hard to expect the other person to change with you if they don't see the need. Ive seen bariatric surgery patients become health nuts, and try to force their new way of life on their partners or their friends and lose both , fast. Its like being a smoker and having a friend who quit they drive you nuts with their holier than thou attitude. Now they don't mean it, and they do not see it but they are overbearing and repulse the people they think they are helping. Translate that to a new lifestyle and it can easily cause relationships to fail. Its why I tell people, having weight loss surgery does not make them an expert in weight loss, in surgery or anything else. But many, do believe they are and try to change others. They do so with good intentions but it hurts and drives their friends and family etc nuts. This reason is why I have my wife involved in my weight loss heavily so that I don't forget how I got here. It is with the help and understanding of others combined with my drive, that I will succeed. I guess what it really comes down to is if we create a new self, can we truly be upset if someone else doesn't quite like that person.

Does anyone actually like their protein drink?
honestly I know ive mentioned ive done tons of protein drink video taste tests on my blog, but the syntrax nectar and matrix products are hands down the best. I wont use genepro because of the obvious lie they use. they say you get 30 grams of protein in 15 grams of product which as you canguess is not possible. Ive called them out on this several times and they just delete my posts so I know they are not being truthful. I like a few isopure ready made drinks, the black tea being the best period. alpine punch and prange are decent . my favorites now are the syntrax nectar vanilla torte, the syntrax nectar cappuccino and the syntrax nectar fuzzy navel, I found using 1% milk with shakes like vanilla cappuccino etc. but water with flavors like cherry, fuzzy navel etc.

Been one week. Big changes.
I was the 16th, I had a meeting today with an np to look at one incision. but all in all i'm great no problems getting in my protein or liquids. one big headache once but nothing since. i've been off pain meds since my second day home, Im down 13 pounds since surgery and counting my pre op diet im down 43 pounds. My clothes fit different things I had been given as gifts years ago but saved cause they were too small, now fit. Im really enjoying the loss. I am hungry as heck and next Wednesday I am assured I will be advanced to stage 4 diet, but not until then. So today is my 44th birthday and I have a birthday cake flavored protein shake for dinner ready lol truth!, but alas no real food for my birthday or christmas, but This is my birthday present and Christmas present to myself.

Massive Headache , could I be dehydrated?
Hi all, I sit here in the dark, which Is helping some I guess, but I woke up this morning with a headache that crushed me. Im not a migraine person so it not likely to start now at age 43. But this brought me low, to the point I cried like a baby for it to stop. Im only 5 days out post op and I took some liquid Tylenol to help with the headache. it has helped and ive taken in 10 ounces of Vitamin Water in the past 3 hours as well. Im wondering, I thought I was getting in enough water 48 two days ago and 51 ounces yesterday, along with 69 grams of Protein, but has anyone had a massive headache that was dehydration. Another one of these and its off to the er or er clinic perhaps. Any help would be appreciated.

What excuse to tell your work for medical leave?
remember this you can have your hr person only know the truth, but in many many states if you lie about your reason for a leave, you can be fired for doing so and incur the expenses involved. But I know in many states you can say it is medically necessary. and nothing else. You do not have to give full disclosure.

Does anyone actually like their protein drink?
blerdgirl im doing ok, post op I cn get my Protein drinks in and liquids in okay, I have a few issues nothing over the top, they did a tac block on me after the surgery and I think the anesthesiologist assistant or student whatever stuck one eedle in the wrong muscle in my chest so now it feels like I have a arrow stuck through my chest to my back every time I take a deep breath or push to pass gas or burp. also it appears I have gastritis and the pains hit me frequently and really hard but I don't like pain meds because of my sleep apnea, the pain meds lower my respirations too much and I wake up with massive sleep apnea headaches. Just got to hold the pain off until Monday when I call the doc. Ive heard some over the counter help can be had from gaviscon, but I cant just arbitrarily do that without my surgeons okay. So if I can hold it together until then, ill be happy. thanks for asking.

Alcohol?
My surgeon and nutritionist have told me no more alcohol ever, as in for ever , never etc. so im not sure why there is such a disparity of 3 months for some and me never and no im not much of a drinker never was. I like very good expensive wine, although it is very rare maybe once every two years I would have something like that. Ive been told that alcohol hits your bloodstream about 7 to 10 times faster with a sleeve and even more for a bypass so 1 shot is the equivalent of 7 shots to a non wls patient. weird that such a wide variety of treatment plans exist.
-
No restriction
you may need to be specific, is that 9 days post op? or 9 days out pre surg? and what kind of surgery? sleeve, bypass, roux, lap band etc. although I wouldn't know how you could possibly take in 1100 calories in puree. unless you ate ice cream, or snack foods. and if you know you're eating bad things, then I have to ask. Why the heck are you eating them? Didn't you change you eating habits PRIOR to the surgery? Did no one tell you the surgery does not stop you from eating, and it does not keep you from eating bad things? Heck im 3 days post op on my sleeve and I know I could eat part of an ice cream sundae, or non sugar free chocolate pudding, or non sugar free Jello, etc. maybe some nice chocolate mousse with cool whip on top. but why would I do that? Im trying to lose weight and so are you. Im not yelling at you but these surgeries are not going to do it for you, YOU still have to make the change. I going to hope and ask if you could maybe seek out some counseling help either in group or with psychiatric help, to se why you're eating so much still. good luck , You can do this, Maybe you weren't really ready for this attempt at this time. This is a very hard thing to do.

Does anyone actually like their protein drink?
Hello, I post video taste tests of Protein powders and ready mades on my blog at http://cuttingthefatwithaknife.blogspot.com I will say be very very careful most protein powders have both regular ( non diet) and diet versions. Such as Muscle milk has regular which is for body builders and designed to put on weight. and muscle milk lite, which is for dieters. so be careful. I know one big issue I have is with the GENEPRO, it says you get 30 grams of protein from 1 tablespoon of product, which is impossible because one tablespoon is 15 grams, so how you can get 30 grams of protein from 15 grams of product beats me I even posted on their face book page and sent them an email and my posts get erased and emails go unanswered. I have asked friends who are chemists and one food additive manufacturer with a phd in food sciences and both tell me its not possible there is no way this is a factual statement, both felt it was a marketing ploy where they are using weight vs volume in the same sentence. Personally I enjoy the Syntrax nectars the best so far , matrix also very very good, I also like a particular chocolate by twin lab but its very hard to find. Particularly I enjoy the vanilla torte, and the fuzzy navel, I also enjoy the Cappuccino, and it uses totally decaf coffee in its flavor. Now if you have allergy issues or want a really mild taste look for abouttime yes its one word you can find it online or at some gnc's and natural food stores. they make a product called fill shake and go, its a pre loaded plastic disposable bottle, you just op the top an add liquid , shake it up and drink. but it has very few ingredients, just 4 total, the flavors are extremely mild, almost not there, I recommend the strawberry chocolate, birthday cake and vanilla, the banana is ok but you have to like banana, per se. find them online. Hope this helps.

My VSG is on 12/17 anyone around the same date?
ive ben somewhat lucky I haven't had a problems getting my fluids in, my problems is drinking too much too fast, I only hit my fill point , that is, my sleeve saying, Hey! put just one more thing down here and im going full reverse on you! Although I now have another issue, sever hunger pains, I know im not hungry but these hurt, only time I veer felt this before was when I had an ulcer like 4 or 5 years ago. The funny part is my stomach sounds are so loud you can hear them in adjacent rooms in my home. lol seriously. I emailed my nutritionist to see if she thinks I should page the surgeon on call or wait until Monday. thankfully yogurt and protein shakes have been really go od to me so far. now the chewable calcium tablets.. yechh.

Experiences with Phentermine?
fen-phen was a combination of Phentermine and Fenfluramine, Fenfluramine was removed from the market as it caused pulmonary hypertension in 3% of users. I loved it me and my wife both used it but we only got ot use it for 3 months before it was pulled off the market. Tried the replacement which was Phen-Pro aka phentermine and Prozac, which turned both of us into walking meth zombies. Not fun. lol

My VSG is on 12/17 anyone around the same date?
Jakcelyn Im so sorry you re going through this much pain and suffering. I had my surgery on the 16th and the last two days have started to make me human again. Has a little worry when I spiked a temp of 100.6 but it went away on its own within a few hours so the doc isn't worried. They did give e a tac block ( nerve block) in the belly right after surgery and one of the needle sites is very very sore, which the anesthesiologist said would be as they went deep into the diaphragm area. I wish I didn't have to cut up pills lol but I don't mind. They gave me a huge amount fo vicodin that I couldn't possibly use if I had pain for 3 months then maybe. lol Im thinking and hoping for you to get better. I hope things will get better for you fast. We are going to do win this, any way I can help even if its just to chat, let me know. Keep the faith. .

Presenting...THE NEW BOB B.!
Bob we are in the same boat, I am 48 removed rom my sleeve surgery. I too had an uneventful procedure Event the IV went on first try ( I had a surgery where it took them 17 sticks to get one in) Yes the gas pains are the most horrible by far. I have never been so happy to fart in my life lol. I was very impressed by the hospitals team, the nurses for bariatric patient's are limited in that they can have more then 3 patients total. Which means you get a lot of quality time in. Heck a few even let me take their picture for my blog. I was also blown away by the bed I was in. Now in other hospitals they didn't seem to care that I was a fat guy and you fit into the little narrow bed etc. But this hospital just outside of boston mass, has nice big bariatric air beds. The best part they were transformers, I kid you not. At ne point I wanted to sit in a chair so they push a button or two and the whole bed turns itself into a chair??? I was stunned and it was awesome as well. What did suck was the sleep deprivation. By that I mean that they kept me on telemetry and an apnea monitor knowing I did have apnea. But I cannot use cpap, for various reasons, so every time I dozed off the o2 sat would drop a bit then my alarm would go off waking me right back up. The morphine pump was worse they all doctors and nurses kept telling me to use the pump, but I think I used it twice, once right after surgery just before they did a Tac Block, and once when I reached my floor, but that was it. The morphine made me very sleepy but I wasn't allowed to sleep. I will say they gave me scripts for nausea (Zofran) acid ( zantac/ranitidine) and pain, ,Vicodin. A lot of vicodin lol Keep me informed Bob id like to see how we do in this endeavor.

I would not consider YOU a successful WLS patient!
Yes all, I said coddling , as in handling with care, even babying because baby steps are very necessary sometimes. Don't apply a negative connotation to it. It is a very positive thing. I, am going to have to rethink posting responses. I think Ill read and maybe ask questions, but if I write a word someone doesn't like , woo I get torn apart. . But Give Em Hell RJ.

I would not consider YOU a successful WLS patient!
RJ I meant coddling in a good way, like sometimes everyone needs a little extra hug or such to get by.
