Got told by a coworker today that I'm taking the "easy way"
i think you showed great composure and confidence to not put the ignorant dork in his place. I would love to have said, " look, I know you have a small penis, but dont try to overcompensate by being a dick." but yeah you cant really do that at the office. Well you could probably do it once... lol Keep at it man.

Sleeve size?
use Jamies link its very helpful, its nice to be able to say hey my stomach is the size of a highlighter marker. its easier to visualize that way.

Food amounts
how fast are you eating and how much are you chewing. these are huge parts of your new eating habits, chew chew chew, like youre a train, and be sure to eat slower, eating fast will make it seem like you are full, but its because you are jamming the sleeve up , there are apps to help you time your bites, i recommend them.

Is my NUT nuts?
he is close but confusing a few things i think. i do have a problem with fruit skins, for sure. the Protein kidney thing is somewhat true but only if you eat well in excess of 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight daily. 1.5 grams per pound is what athletes and body builder types eat , we should be around .5 grams per pound at optimal levels. But my advice is just that, advice. Every Nutritionist has Vitamins they like, and mine likes the Centrum chewables with Iron. cheap and effective, The 20 minute thing is impossible, not just impractical, after a certain amount of time, you cant break down food anymore without digesting it, I would defy anyone to chew food for that long.

Accepting yourself loose skin and all!
i know i will need a panniculectomy but i went into this knowing I would and knowing tha id take some loose skin as a side effect to really feeling good and being able to function at a level i haven't in many years. im almost 3 months out and my belly has shrunk, bt it also has fallen, so it hangs down lower than before, but trust me ill take that any day, the health implications are so drastic already its amazing. heres a quick example last night after riding the stationary bike for 30 minutes and 7 miles my heart rate was at 131 bpm. just 4 months ago at my stress test, after 8 minutes i had to stop and my heart rate was over 162 bpm. Thats how much stress i have removed from my heart. you cant compare that to some loose skin.

Does your sleeve tolerate xylitol?
well sugar alcohols, i.e. malitol, xylitol, sorbitol, all have a natural laxative effect and as such i have found it does not take much to, umm get things flowing, if ya get my meaning. some of the funniest reading you can ever do is to look up the forums online for sugar-free gummy bears. i guarantee you cannot help but laugh out loud at the stories. And by the way do not eat the sugar-free gummy bears...you have been warned.

Is this dumping syndrome?
yeah i use 5oz of 1% or skim milk with my (sweet.i.e. chocolate strawberry vanilla, cappuccino) shakes and Water for my fruit flavored types. at my nutritionists request as well. while sleevers get some dumping we dont get dumping syndrome where you have long-term bouts of dumping unless you eat really wrong. i had it once and do not want that again.

Apathy anyone? Lately having trouble with job motivation. You too? Suggestions?
well, let me say this and im not being mean or saying anything about you personally. but, what you're going through is something you really would have been better off working out before you had the surgery. its kind of why we do the psych thing to help you get over food being a dependency. it sounds a lot like depression from kicking the food as comfort. talk to someone. now thats just my opinion, im not doctor, but heck talking to someone couldnt hurt.

Starting out at age 45? How common?
Im 44 and had my surgery 7 days before my 44th birthday. SO its not rare at all. Obesity affect so many, from all walks of life , races, creeds and ages. As surgery is more widely available ( not widely enough) we see a wider variety of ages.

I'm honest, but should I lie? Did you?
This is a touchy subject. Ill say this, do what you feel, not what anyone else says. Personally ive told everyone because I am proud of it, I want people to know what it is we go through, and I use the praise i get from family and friends to keep me motivated. Good luck to you! You Can Do This!

Artificial sugar vs real sugar
Project me, she does lie she is lying outright when she says artificial sweeteners cause cancer. I posted proof that she is lying. If you seriously believe she is conducting experiments on humans without any medical training whatsoever Then I dont know what to say. She says sugar doesn't increase a diabetic's blood sugar, which is an outright lie, and im sure you know that having a son who is diabetic. She says she knows more than paramedics do, expect she says they are the same as emt but give a few meds. which is false, ive done tracheotomies, ive delivered babies, and so much more but this "lady" says no, , we can scope for choking, we defib, and much more. She says people tell her she should be a doctor and she compares herself to one. She is a secretary in the er and acts like she is the er doc. she says her doctor approves of her doing unlicensed untrained and unprofessional studies on humans. and that their own doctors said it was ok ( which would get their license revoked by the way) so everything she said is a lie, and the word fat never scares me, to me Fat is a descriptive word, it is not the same as obese, nor is it the same as overweight. Im sorry you dont like the word, truly I am but it fits this person to a T.

Fruit problems?
Fiber, all those fruits are very high in fiber and fiber tens to expand once in the stomach, they can definitely lead to discomfort. for me, i can eat apple slices with no skins, ( skins upset my stomach, but they always did) and i buy the little kid packs of peeled sliced apples, that's enough of them to fill me totally and its like 4 or 5 slices. so i feel where you're coming from.

Mother disapproves
well by being behind you she would have to admit you have a problem and i guarantee you that admitting you have a problem makes her feel like she has failed as your mom. parents do not want to see their kids as anything but wonderful, and if they admit you have a problem that youve had since you were a child, they have to take blame in that and they won't do it. My dad was a food hoarder, he was legally blind and resented that he couldn't work to provide for us so my mom worked ( no big deal nowadays but back then ) anyway, he would guard food under lock and key and you could only eat at mealtimes, but he would eat Cookies and bake a cake and eat half or more of it himself and hide it from other people. as a result we came to regard food as treasure and the only comforting thing. my mom was obese i was/am, my sister was, etc. my dad refused to believe he had anything to do with it, and refused to believe any of us were obese for any reason because he would have to admit his ways were wrong. So i do wonder if your mom might feel like she has failed you if she admits you need help. Denial is a very powerful beast indeed. I wish you well. You Can Do This!

Submitted my claim to insurance and now I'm rethinking this whole thing...
everyone goes through the"do i really want to give up my big mac, or five guys or whatever" stage. thats why you have psych consults, you have to work ay getting past food as a comfort inducing thing and get to it as a life thing, to make the transition from eat to live instead of live to eat, is a terribly hard emotional journey. But i can say this, you CAN do it. After almost al my posts you will see me post that "You Can Do This! " tag its just my way of reinforcing the fact that we can all accomplish this if we truly want it and give our all to it. I know deep inside you can do it if you set your mind and body to it. The results are indescribable . I am two months post op and between my preop and surgery i am getting very close to losing my first hundred pounds. and i had my surgery on December 16th . Im not saying youll get these results but yesterday i went to the gym, I used to walk with two canes, one in a bag folded up just in case i had to stand for more than 10 minutes, and one i used just to walk. Now yesterday i rode 5 miles on the exercise bike, then went and did 1/2 hour circuit training, then i went and walked through three stores , i walked a total of almost 2 miles, no cane, n almost no discomfort at all. i went from a 5xl shirt to currently a 2x and from 4xl pants to an XL. what you can accomplish is all up to you, but deep down if you want it, you can get it of that there is no doubt. and we will be here to help , the people here are very good at helping you keep going. You Can Do This!

8 weeks since surgery and I think I am flunking this test!
you can always check with your surgeon if you are worried. I wil be honest doing a cup or more of food is certainly not doable by me, by any means. in a whole day sure, but not in one sitting. not by a long shot. i know im not being much help. but certainly bring it to your doctors attention.

My husband is not attracted to me - 2 weeks post-op
I'd like to apologize for men everyone, since I am one. But so many of us are evidently complete buttholes. I cannot imagine the situations lot of people on here have been put in by their male spouses. It is disheartening to see how badly many of you have been or are being treated. If I could apologize for all men I would. All I can say is none of you deserve to be mistreated like that and i truly wish you all well. I hope it all works out.

Artificial sugar vs real sugar
by the way for the liars out there , this is from the National Cancer Institute. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/causes-prevention/risk-factors/diet/artificial-sweeteners-fact-sheet Is there an association between artificial sweeteners and cancer? Questions about artificial sweeteners and cancer arose when early studies showed that cyclamate in combination with saccharin caused bladder cancer in laboratory animals. However, results from subsequent carcinogenicity studies (studies that examine whether a substance can cause cancer) of these sweeteners have not provided clear evidence of an association with cancer in humans. Similarly, studies of other FDA-approved sweeteners have not demonstrated clear evidence of an association with cancer in humans. What have studies shown about a possible association between specific artificial sweeteners and cancer? Saccharin Studies in laboratory rats during the early 1970s linked saccharin with the development of bladder cancer. For this reason, Congress mandated that further studies of saccharin be performed and required that all food containing saccharin bear the following warning label: “Use of this product may be hazardous to your health. This product contains saccharin, which has been determined to cause cancer in laboratory animals.” Subsequent studies in rats showed an increased incidence of urinary bladder cancer at highdoses of saccharin, especially in male rats. However, mechanistic studies (studies that examine how a substance works in the body) have shown that these results apply only to rats. Humanepidemiology studies (studies of patterns, causes, and control of diseases in groups of people) have shown no consistent evidence that saccharin is associated with bladder cancer incidence. Because the bladder tumors seen in rats are due to a mechanism not relevant to humans and because there is no clear evidence that saccharin causes cancer in humans, saccharin was delisted in 2000 from the U.S. National Toxicology Program’s Report on Carcinogens, where it had been listed since 1981 as a substance reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen (a substance known to cause cancer). More information about the delisting of saccharin is available at http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/ntp/roc/eleventh/append/appb.pdf on the Internet. The delisting led to legislation, which was signed into law on December 21, 2000, repealing the warning label requirement for products containing saccharin. Aspartame Aspartame, distributed under several trade names (e.g., NutraSweet® and Equal®), was approved in 1981 by the FDA after numerous tests showed that it did not cause cancer or otheradverse effects in laboratory animals. Questions regarding the safety of aspartame were renewed by a 1996 report suggesting that an increase in the number of people with brain tumors between 1975 and 1992 might be associated with the introduction and use of this sweetener in the United States. However, an analysis of then-current NCI statistics showed that the overall incidence of brain and central nervous system cancers began to rise in 1973, 8 years prior to the approval of aspartame, and continued to rise until 1985. Moreover, increases in overall brain cancer incidence occurred primarily in people age 70 and older, a group that was not exposed to the highest doses of aspartame since its introduction. These data do not establish a clear link between the consumption of aspartame and the development of brain tumors. In 2005, a laboratory study found more lymphomas and leukemias in rats fed very high doses of aspartame (equivalent to drinking 8 to 2,083 cans of diet soda daily) (1). However, there were some inconsistencies in the findings. For example, the number of cancer cases did not rise with increasing amounts of aspartame as would be expected. An FDA statement on this study can be found athttp://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/2006/ucm108650.htm on the Internet. Subsequently, NCI examined human data from the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study of over half a million retirees. Increasing consumption of aspartame-containing beverages was not associated with the development of lymphoma, leukemia, or brain cancer (2). Acesulfame potassium, Sucralose, and Neotame In addition to saccharin and aspartame, three other artificial sweeteners are currently permitted for use in food in the United States: Before approving these sweeteners, the FDA reviewed more than 100 safety studies that were conducted on each sweetener, including studies to assess cancer risk. The results of these studies showed no evidence that these sweeteners cause cancer or pose any other threat to human health. Cyclamate Because the findings in rats suggested that cyclamate might increase the risk of bladder cancer in humans, the FDA banned the use of cyclamate in 1969. After reexamination of cyclamate’s carcinogenicity and the evaluation of additional data, scientists concluded that cyclamate was not a carcinogen or a co-carcinogen (a substance that enhances the effect of a cancer-causing substance). A food additive petition was filed with the FDA for the reapproval of cyclamate, but this petition is currently being held in abeyance (not actively being considered). The FDA’s concerns about cyclamate are not cancer related. Acesulfame potassium (also known as ACK, Sweet One®, and Sunett®) was approved by the FDA in 1988 for use in specific food and beverage categories, and was later approved as a general purpose sweetener (except in meat and poultry) in 2002. Sucralose (also known as Splenda®) was approved by the FDA as a tabletop sweetener in 1998, followed by approval as a general purpose sweetener in 1999. Neotame, which is similar to aspartame, was approved by the FDA as a general purpose sweetener (except in meat and poultry) in 2002. hmm guess she is lying.

Artificial sugar vs real sugar
this happens to be the single mos disgusting thread ive ever read on a forum, human test subjects. Oh but some people think i should be a doctor. Yes and some ( me) think you should be locked away. You make my blood boil with how irresponsible you are. it angers me to no end. Taurus can you give me the name of your surgeon please id like to verify the veracity of your statements and ask about your so called study and that he approves of them. I dare you to provide the information to back up your "Stories" because it is amazing that someone who knows so much about being healthy since 2006 is so obese they had to get help from surgery I mean if you knew so much and knew all these secrets why are you fat? oops i used the F word. Dont worry i did a study on it!
