About Me

  • Gender
    Female
  1. I had my gall bladder removed during my VGS. I have had a few foods that do not agree with me, but mostly, it is the speed at which I consume the food or Water. I am so glad to have my GB removed as it was causing me discomfort before the surgery. Just try one new food at a time...if it works then yeah! if it doesn't....don't totally give up. Try again a month later. Best wishes!
  2. I am so glad to read these posts. I am on day 7 of the STALL and like so many of you have said...it is very frustrating and discouraging. I know that I did not gain the weight quickly, but still I had hoped to see a few pounds off every week. Again I am reminded that though this is a permanent tool to help us, it is still a diet. And on every diet I have ever been on, I have hit a plateau. Keep posting , it does help to read others issues!

    Being alone post-op

You can do whatever you need for yourself, but I agree with the posters who think someone around for a day or two can be really helpful. I had to take blood thinners for 2 weeks via injection. I needed help giving them to myself. I had a friend and one family member come in once a day to administer the shot. Perhaps as the previous post suggested you could have your sisters take turns and check on you once a day or so.
  4. I am encouraged to find that I am not alone in the stall! Like all of you. I am obsessed with the scale; fastidious about recording my food intake and working on the water. Though I thought I had a good education about the surgery, I really wasn't totally informed about the discomfort that one could experience at one month post-surgery. I long to feel normal again.
  5. I am 4 weeks post surgery and feel exactly as you all do. I have been jumping on the scale daily and very frustrated at the number. I am on soft foods now and do experience the hunger you all speak of. I was naïve post surgery in that I thought a week later, I would be back to myself. The poster who reminds us that this was MAJOR surgery is right on. We wouldn't expect to feel normal after a C-section or appendectomy. The body needs time to heal. My biggest fear is what if this doesn't work either! Going through this process and then finding out I can never weigh less than I do now is a irrational fear, but one that I do have! Open to comments! And thanks to all of you for your wisdom and insight. It is appreciated.
  6. Hi everyone, I am exactly 4 weeks post surgery. I have been having a hard time getting in all of the calories - working on the water. I have been consistently at about 7-800 calories per day and have had no weight loss this week at all. Just stalled on the same number! Any one else experienced this?
  7. I am 3 weeks post surgery and know that diet coke/ wine/ beer is out of the question for me forever. Funny thing is, I haven't missed it at all. My taste buds have been altered and the only thing that tastes ok is Water and un-sweet tea. Even I am surprised that I don't miss it. Since you asked, and this is only my opinion, dont sell your self short. You can have a great time enjoying the new you without alcohol. I frequently enjoyed wine in the evenings and certainly at outings and social events before my surgery. What I have read in several reports, is the incidence of alcoholism rises significantly after bariatric surgery. Obviously, I have eating issues; I have just undergone VSG. If I cant eat, I don't want to replace one issue with another. May I remind you, that you are a lot of fun and have many friends who want to hang out with you! They will see you looking better every month and will encourage you to let the part of your past go that led to your weight issues. You can do this! Good luck to you. I know that's how it's supposed to be, but, again... I physically see my friend who has had the operation doing it, as well as reading a few other posts from other people saying they have an occasional beer or three as well. What dictates whether your able to handle it? Is it just pure luck? Or if you drank a lot in past, are you more likely to be able to handle it after sleeve? Again, I don't know, just asking.
  8. I am 3 weeks out. Sleeved on July 7. Would be happy to chat.

    Sleeved and hungry

I appreciate your input regarding acid reflux. I haven't been taking my PPI as regularly as I should. I am taking it today and hope to be less hungry soon.
  10. I had my VSG on July 7 - weighing in at 244. Tomorrow is the three week mark and I weight 221!. No complications so far. I also had my gall bladder removed with this surgery. Though pleased with the weight loss, the recovery has been a little slower than I expected. I am 61 and have had 4 C-sections; bounced back so quickly from those that I thought this would be the same experience. (Of course, that was 30 years ago). I still want to nap everyday!. I have to go back to school on August 7 and need my energy. As far as how things are going today, I feel hungry much of the time. Some of this I think is "head-hunger". I see a commercial and want to eat like I used to. I crave a hamburger and fries. I am on soft foods and when I take a bite or two, the hunger is abated. Shortly after however, I am hungry again. I have eaten one bite too many on a couple of occasions and have had that gripping pain in my chest. Still learning to read my body signals better. I long to take a giant gulp of Water or tea to quench my thirst. I look forward to the day I can do this. I am anxious to learn more about the successes you have had.

    JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

I was sleeved on July 7 2014. No complications but I was naive about the recovery time. I'm 61 and thought I would bunch back more quickly. I am up and doing housework and shopping etc. I am however, so thirsty. The sipping doesn't do it for me. I have eaten a bite or two over my full limit and suffer with that incredible chest pain. Anyone else with minor struggles?
