  1. After WLS we should not be eating more than 50 carbs per day. I know how you feel, I am not a meat eater. But when I had my sleeve last September, I knew what I was signing up for. I eat chicken, fish, hate eggs, but eat them. Best of luck to you.

    Lower abdominal pain.

If you are in bad pain, I would definitely call the doctor or visit the emergency room right away.

    Diet Cheating!

I don't know why you are trying to rationalize the fact that you are eating foods you should not. As many have stated, you can do severe damage to your sleeve. I also encourage you to get therapy. Why in the world would you put yourself through surgery if you are resuming your bad eating habits?

Am I the only one with Diarrhea?

I was sleeved on 9/9/14. In the beginning I had bad bouts of diarrhea. Some were so bad I almost did not make it to the bathroom in time. I seemed to have problems with the Protein shakes, some brands were worse than others. I would almost vomit on the Protein Shakes and they ALWAYS gave me diarrhea. Now I can drink them and they don't bother me at all. Who knows why. Yesterday I had a horrid bout with diarrhea. As has been stated, it is our systems trying to adjust. Hopefully, with time the bouts will lessen.
  5. I'd been in major freakout before surgery; it became worse after my doctor ordered an echo and a heart stress test because of my age..I am over sixty. He did this at the last minute. I actually had to drive to the doctor's office to get the official sign off from the doctor for surgery and drive it to my final pre-op visit with my surgeon's office. It was so hot that day (I live in FL). It took me a while to calm down from that and I felt no more anxiety about the surgery after that. The day of surgery, I was in a daze going to the hospital. I'd slept about 2 hours, and yes I was anxious. When I was being prepped for surgery, the anesthesiologist couldn't find a decent vein. He poked and finally put the IV in the inside part of my wrist. Yes my wrist, and it hurt like hell. I was begging him to take it out. He said to just be calm and breathe in the oxygen. The next thing I knew, I was in recovery searching for the IV in my wrist. It was gone, of course, and replaced with one that didn't hurt. My surgery was on 9/9/14. When I woke I was in pain, but it felt absolutely no hunger at all. I do love the sleeve because I never feel hungry.

    Why

I was also sleeved on the 9th and had gas in my system for a few days. I can still feel some in the shoulder blade area. Walking helps get rid of the gas. Since the surgery I have felt absolutely no hunger. I would advise you to follow the diet plan given to you by your bariatric surgeon's office. That will ensure you are getting the much needed Protein that is needed by your body during this healing phase. Good luck.

Sept 8th is just 2 sleeps away!

Best of luck. Your day is almost here. I am scheduled for surgery on the 9th, the day after you. It really hasn't sunk in yet. And I need to pack. But really, there isn't much to pack except cell phone, charger, nightgown, face cream, toothbrush, etc.
  9. I am still pre-op, but my surgery is on Sept. 9th. The pre WLS shakes from my surgeon's office are blech. And I do mean blech. I drank an Adkins chocolate shake yesterday because I was away from home and needed something in my system. I thought I had died and gone to Heaven. But these shakes are too high in fat. Please, may I have suggestions for brands of Protein shakes that taste good? Again, the ones my surgeon's office gave us are God awful.

    Liquid Diet a Question

Most of WLS patients have a last weigh in with the doctor before surgery to check if the prescribed amount of weight you were asked to lose was, in fact lost. Your doctor would stitch you back up and not do the surgery? Why not have a last appointment and weigh in with the patient like most weight loss surgeons do?
  11. I did not know till the last minute if my surgery was going to happen. It is scheduled for Sept. 9th. I am so exhausted today. Because of an abnormal EKG, slightly bradycardia, and the fact I am over sixty, just last week my PCP ordered an echocardigram and a stress test. The echo was performed last week. The stress test was performed yesterday with a rush on it. My doctor received the test this morning. The WLS office did not receive the results although the doctor faxed it. Also the PCP did not have the sign off sheet from the WLS's office that I KNOW I gave to them. A doctor has to sign a legal piece of paper stating it is OK for surgery to be performed, and this is the paperwork I KNOW the doctor's office had. One hand did not know what the other was doing. I asked the WLS office to fax that piece of paper to the doctor's office and stated I would pick up all the paperwork in person including the results of the stress test, the already faxed echo results. . I then ran to the WLS office for my last pre-op appointment. Why can't some offices get their stuff together? Anyway, it is all over, the last appoint with the WLS is over and the surgery is a go. I am way way way too tired to stress out over the surgery. One last thing. The WLS surgeon is awesome. I know 2 people who had the VSG with her within the last week. HOWEVER, the first patient was scheduled for 8a.m.; the hospital and the doctor got their messages crossed and the surgery did not happen till 3p.m. The other patient's surgery was scheduled for 3p.m.; the doctor was backed up and her surgery was not performed till 1am the next morning. Always hurry up and wait. But she is an excellent surgeon.
  12. With what has been said about some being sick of the same Proteins, I have decided to invest in a bariatric cook book. One of the recipes I have seen bandied about on WLS websites is the ricotta cheese bake. I am surely going to try that. There are also so many bariatric recipes on Pinterest. Good luck. You might want to invest in a recipe book especially for WLS patients. Good luck to you in your endeavors.

    My gastric sleeve

Ten days? Wow. My daughter will be with me for a week...I have surgery on Sept. 9th, but I live alone and hope I can drive sooner than that.
  14. I take Lexapro for an anxiety order every day. Are you given this medication during the overnight stay in the hospital? Anyone who has had this surgery and takes this type of medication, could you please help with this answer.
  15. Mine is Sept. 9th and I was having anxiety. I am an older woman, over sixty and was not heavy till I hit fifty and started taking Lexapro. I had an abnormal EKG..bradycardia, and had to go for an echocardiogram and still need a stress test before surgery. However, you will be fine. Yes, it is stressful to think of the upcoming surgery. A friend of mine, a 58 year old woman was sleeved on Aug. 27. She suffered no pain, no nausea and was so worried about her surgery before hand. You will be fine.
