I do enjoy the extra frills that the gym offers and I also have made lots of friends. I have exercise equipment at home which I prefer to use on foul weather days.

The best kind of exercise is the one you'll actually do! So if you will work out at home, and it's more convenient and you're set up - I say go for that. As for weights - you can get yourself some weights - but there are lots of things you can do at home without any equipment - like push ups, crunches, squats, leg lifts, etc. I just started working out at a gym with a personal trainer - and that's what he's got me doing for now. I hope to build up to weights, but for now this stuff is plenty intense for me!

You do not need to go to a gym. I go to a gym. I like taking classes, using the pool and getting out of my house. I like that it is my time that will not be interrupted by my husband or cat. I also know if I don't pay someone I won't work out at home. I just cannot work up the mental wherewithal to do it. I am also not one of those people who likes doing things outside in nature. So do I need a gym? Yes? Do you? Maybe. Are you going to work out at home? Are you outdoorsy? Does spending money each month work as motivation to work out? Is the drive/time commitment worth it to you? Answer those questions honestly and you will have your answer.

    GUYS ROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@jrob04 Welcome. I have nearly the same stats as you and @@Recycled too. He sums it up really well. I am 5 weeks out today. I have been hitting the gym as hard as I can, I am not always the best with my Water intake and Protein can be hard to get in at times, but I assume that will be easier once I completely heal in the next week or so. first 2 weeks post-op can be trying, but I just think about what the future has in store for me. I am down 28lbs since surgery date and 46lbs since I started my journey back in July. I think it is well worth the pain. I can't wait to see where I am at in a few months. I have found that logging my calories on myfitnesspal helps me track where I need to be. you can also add several members on here for motivation, meal ideas, and general support. I added @@Recycled to myfitnesspal to get his meal ideas too. this place is a great tool/resource. keep us all updated with your progress and again, welcome!

You've pretty much got my same stats. I can tell you it will be a hard effort. The weight is not just going to fall off. Stick very close to your guidelines for the first few weeks and then when you're cleared for workouts and all foods, get in as much liquids and Protein as you can each day. And casual walks won't do it either. I go to the gym and spend about one and a half hours each time with pretty vigorous workouts. It will be slow at first, seeming like your bod is in horrible shape..(which it is) but you will improve rapidly. Actually very fast. It's quite remarkable how quickly you will build strength and stamina.
Each session will be an encouragement for the next.
I find that even with eating lots of meats and fish, I still need to add in a couple of Protein supplements each day to reach my goals. Throw in a shake or two and maybe a power bar and you will get there. Don't fret the stalls as they are just the body trying to salvage body mass as you lose. I usually bounce the calories up & down a little to throw the metabo- off and the stalls break. As long as you stay on course the weight will continue to come off. After about the 6 month mark, it will slow down and you will have to step things up a bit to keep losing. Keep in mind then......you are building muscle and it weighs more than the fat. So if you don' appear to be losing pounds.....you're probably losing inches and gaining more muscle. Good luck with your journey.

I agree with you, I stalled right at the time I was put on soft foods. I also somehow managed to gain 8 pounds in like 2 days. I have no idea where it came from. I stayed at 288 for 2 weeks then BAM I lost 12 pounds in 3 days. Anyway, during this stall, I lost a lot of inches. I went from a size 26 to a 18/20 in 3 weeks. I just keep on working out and the inches are coming off faster than the weight. If my body wants to lose weight slowly, I am fine with that. At least I am losing.

You don't break it... you wait it out. You stay on plan. You eat what you're supposed to. You keep on exercising. You focus more on what you have control of (fingers/eating and feet/exercising) and less on a number on the scale.< /p>

    Sure, you can do it.
As you have already done, you have to say, "Stop!"
    Then reset.
    And get in the groove.
I look forward to hearing about your progress here. I hope you post about it on this thread.

I'm down 87 lbs since surgery last year but gained 7lbs the last two weeks. But I know why: I'm eating too many Snacks and not drinking Water. The mental stuff that made us fat before is still there.
Im struggling too but I know what I need to do: destress and stick to the program. A support group isn't something I've done before but may now. I just need the reset button and to talk to people to understand.

What causes weight gain after sleeve surgery?
The exact same things that cause it before surgery. Too much food and no exercise.
The surgery is only gonna give you a helpful tool to limit you intake. The rest is up to you. You have to change all your eating habits and get you bod moving. Yeah, yeah, yeah.....I know....you dieted and exercised before. Really, you gonna stick with that story.
The surgery is your chance to get it right. Eating small portions require you eat the correct nutritional food or you will become weak and tired. Eat too much and it will hurt. As you adjust to the new eating guidelines and begin losing weight, you'll gain the energy to exercise and workout and do all the things you've been missing. Then over time, these new guidelines will develop into new lifestyle habits which will stay with you when you reach your goals.
So in the end........you won't overeat the wrong foods and sit around on your ass doing nothing and gaining weight. -

taylorj7 reacted to Bobby46 in What causes weight gain after sleeve surgery?
Hello. I was sleeved on Aug 11. I can only speak about my experience, so this is strictly my opinion.
I have struggled my whole life with food and weight. I turn to food when I'm bored, stressed, worried, happy and sad. Food was the center of my life for years. I am clearly addicted to it and the comfort it provides to me. I imagine most people who are significantly over weight have been so for many years. I developed horrible habits and a co-dependent relationship with food for decades. Again, I imagine most people in this boat are the same as me. Saying that....I truly believe that people gain weight after this surgery because breaking those habits, breaking that addiction never really goes away. Its going to be a life long battle even with surgery, period. Right now....8 weeks out from surgery.....I can eat a little more. I can eat sweets and carbs pretty easily. I think that if I don't get my habits under control and if I don't stay totally vigilant concerning my triggers and go-to, feel-good foods, then, yes, I can see myself gaining in the future. The surgery is a tool to use to control portions....it doesn't control what food you put in your body....you do. Yes, you will always have a smaller stomach to control the amount of food. But, if you are reaching for chocolate, chips and fried food....even in small amounts.....over time the weight can and will return.

Speedy recovery to all those that has had their sleeve done recently.
