    Question for the banded...

I did feel some depression a few days after surgery, I think this is a common occurance with any major surgery. It will pass, just try and keep a positive attitude and make sure that you have a good support system available to you. I clearly remember regretting that I had undergone surgery only hours after I had it done, it was so new and strange, now I appreciate having had it done. Now I look forward to having my 1ST fill on friday so that I can start losing weight and moving forward with my life. Best wishes.

    Help!! I Gained 2 Lbs

I went from liquids to full liquids and I do think that it is probably due to the change in diet. I just got back from Barnes and Noble and found a wonderful book. weight loss surgery for dummies. It details everything one needs to know from start to finish. It has a 7 day menu suggestion sheet for all the stages that we go through from pre surgery, post surgery, liquids, full liquids, puree, soft to solids, it shows breakfast, lunch dinner and snacks. I need this type of menu ideas otherwise I'm not sure that I'm getting the nutrients that I need otherwise on my own. I'm so glad that I found this book. only $21. The book covers all types of WLS and gives valuable info for all types of surgery in case anyone out there is interested. Thank you for your comments. I was about to run to weight watchers Now I'm okay also, I'm not going to get on the scale every day. That will make you crazy.

Help! I Am Getting Cold Feet!

I was as nervous as you are, infact in the holding room just outside of the OR, as the anesthesiologist was asking me questions and getting ready to put me under, I hestiated and said to him "you know what, this isn't for me, it really isn't worth it, I should just try weight watchers one more time", he said "you have probably been there and done that, so lets do this". The next thing I knew I was in recovery. So your fears are normal. Do what you know is right. You know what you want and need to do. God Bless. Glo

    Is anyone Else this crazy??

I can relate. I was banded on MOnday Sept 26th and just how much broth can you take? Well I have been very compliant but last night those cheetos were call me. I just put it in my mouth, was scared to death to swallow it and then threw it away. I have lost 17 lbs since surgery last monday and -8 preop. Oh, I also ate a york peppermint patty, it melts down so easy and the peppermint really helped with the gas. So you're not carzy just hungry and human. Be well
  19. I sure hope that you feel better. Take it slow. Don't let them fill you too much, there is no rush, better to have a slow weight loss process than a fast one with too many problems and potential health risks. Take care and feel better. Glo

    couldn't possibly be true

Hi everyone, well, I'm getting use to the band. I still feel sore especially at the port. If I try to bend forward I get this pulling feeling. Tomorrow I go to the doctor for 1st follow up and suture removal I assume. I cannot take one more day of broth, I have lost 17 lbs to date. Doesn't this seem like alot of wt already? It must be water weight because I have been on clear liquids for 7 days. My surgeon is very conservative and states that I will be on full liquids for the next 5 weeks. I will know for sure tomorrow. Comments appreciated. Glo
  21. I got banded on Monday I'm so sorry that I did. It was the hospital/surgery experience from hell. Nobody told us in our support groups pre surgery about the realness of this procedure. My surgery started incompetent nurses not being able to find my veins to place the iv before surgery and blowing out my veins, they had to call in an IV specialist to get it done. Then it's hurry up and wait for the surgery in the holding area for 3 hours. after the surgery I was placed in a room with an 80 year old woman with dementia, I had so much pain, she screamed all night long and I got no sleep. In the middle of the night, my IV drip ran dry that was scarey! The next morning I'm up and about at 7 am waiting to go to roadiology for my barium swallow, more hurry up and wait, I got there at 10am, after that it was back up to my room to wait for a cup of water before discharge. 12:30 a tray comes up from dietary with a bowl of broth, cup of tea, cup of cranberry juice, cup of apple juice, cup of sorbet and cup of jello. I had to eat this and be observed before I could be discharged. Get home, in extreme pain, start to sip water and the most horrible thing happens. The water goes down vey slowly, you can feel it pass from the band to the larger stomach, not only that but you can hear the fluid gurggle as it fiters down, I wasn't mentally prepared for that. I can't drink, I'm scared it grosses me out! Next, how do you take shower, comb your hair, change your shirt, walk up the stairs, pick up something if it falls, and most importantly you can't sleep. I've been sitting in my recyliner in my family room since I got home. Very disappointed, I would have it taken out in a heart beat but I'm scared to death of going back into the hospital for more surgery. I would caution everone to think about this procedure fully before having it done. I can only pray now that since it is in place that everything will go well. Obviously I'm going to be compliant because I want a good result but if I had to do it all over again, I WOULDNOT DO IT.

    Just got banded on Monday

I hope I didn't just lose all of that, hit a button by mistake. I was saying, I think that my surgeons office should have called me the day after surgery to say "are you ok, how do you feel, can we answer any questions for you". They didn't. Anyway, I got up today, took a very hot shower, washed my hair, and boy did I feel better. And to my surprise I have lost 10 pounds. Thank you all for your support, it's going to be a long hard journey but I will succeed. God Bless

    Just got banded on Monday

asolutely not, I would not do it again for any reason what so ever! This operation and new lifestyle is mentally exausting and I'm afraid I can't take it, it's only been 2 days and water gets stuck trying to go down, I'm scared to death, and the pain I feel when I try to swallow is unbelivable. Please think about it and get counseling before you do it
