How many calories is everyone eating at about 8 months? What does your meal plans look like? How many carbs and how much fat? I'm 8 months post op and I eat about 1200 a day. I'm not sure where I should be. I am 7 pounds from my goal weight. Hw 225 Sw 200 cw 139. I'm 5'2

"Eat like a normal person" ... boy, that's a loaded term.
Like you, I'm newly at goal. And what I've learned in the last year is that "normal persons" eat pretty badly. They eat lots of processed foods, fast food, boxed food, food laden with sodium, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, hormones, corn Syrup, etc.
These days, I'm working hard to eat a lot more veggies / fruits and plant Proteins (in addition to animal proteins) than I once did. Does that mean I don't eat what I'm served by a hostess at a dinner party or Fourth of July BBQ? Nope, of course not.
But the foods on my daily menus that I do control (by food shopping, cooking, ordering at restaurants) are considerably different than they were pre-op and certainly during the first six months of post-op.
WLS offers us a chance to greatly improve our nutrition. I'm pretty sure that what I DO eat from now on is going to be more important in maintaining my newly found health and lower weight than what I DON'T eat. By that, I mean that if I eat healthy foods that meet my body's nutritional needs I'll not crave the highly processed (high sugar/fat/salt) foods I used to eat too much of.
And don't misunderstand -- I wasn't a food binger. You don't have to be a food binger to get fat in America. You only have to starve your body of the nutrients it needs and wants. Doing that leads us to the over-processed food trough.
Gobble, gobble!

Oh, by the way, congratulations for reaching your goal weight!

What does your nutritionist say?
Are you getting in all your Protein and fluids?
Do you exercise?
How far are you from surgery?
The answer to those questions will tell you more than the number of calories you are consuming.

It's great that you have an appointment with a nutritionist. He or she should be able to help you work out a plan based on your goals and objectives.

Let me ask you this.
What's more important? The number on the scale or how you look in your jeans? (I won't even say the number on the tag in your pants because I wear a 6, 8 or 10 depending on the brand.)
I weigh myself every day. Sometimes even 2 or 3 times a day. The number keeps me on track but I don't CARE about it. I care about how my ass looks in my jeans. Inches are FAR more important than pounds. To me anyways...

Quest just came out with mint chocolate chunk. I Love them. Every couple weeks my stomach changes its mind. I have to be careful and not buy to many at a time

I have become somewhat of a Protein bar connoisseur after my surgery. I've tried a flavor or two of all brands that I've found with decent nutrition. My top bars are: Quest, Chocorite Protein (make sure it's the Chocorite Protein and not the Chocolite), Pure Protein Baked (not the regular ones), PowerCrunch original, and Combat Crunch bars. If you want something as close to a candy bar as you can get without it being too bad for you, the peanut Fit Crunch bars by Robert Irvine are good, but may be a bit carby, if I remember right.
The Chocorite Protein I've only seen at netrition.com (awesome site - you can get Quest and Combat Crunch there as well) and a local low-carb shop. They are just like a Quest bar but half the size and some different flavors like yellow cake or red velvet cake.
The Combat Crunch I get through netrition or the Vitamin Shoppe. The cinnamon twist ones are close to the taste of a cinnamon roll. They have a much better flavor than the Quest cinnamon roll to me. The others are really good too.
I think that's about it. Now I'm off to find some of those mint chocolate Quest bars. ..I love mint chocolate.

5'5", 140#, 10 pounds below goal. I probably get at least 60-80g protein/day (40-60g from my daily smoothie and Quest bar) and minimum 64oz fluids. I don't count calories, carbs or fat, so can't give you an answer there. I Simply eat a well balanced diet of protein, veggies, fruit and whole grains. Sweets, alcohol and other simple carbs in moderation. Love my sleeve!

I'm glad you posted this. I'm really interested in reading the responses to this question. I'm already below my goal weight, but I'm not confident about transitioning from weight loss mode to maintenance. I'm afraid that as I add calories, I'll add pounds as well. I'm hoping someone will know the best way to stop losing without gaining.

I slowly started adding more fat and healthy carbs when I was within 10 pounds of my goal weight. Switched from skim milk to 1%, fat free cottage cheese to regular, 0% Greek yogurt to 2%, replaced some Protein Bars with whole grain bars and homemade granola, ate more fruit and nuts, allowed myself a few more deserts, etc. I lost another 20 pounds even after transitioning to a "maintenance diet". My body just found its new normal and I can pretty much keep myself within a 4-5 pound bounce range just by altering my carb intake up or down as needed. Basically eat whatever unless I hit the top end of my range then I go back to Protein and veggie basics until I'm back to the bottom of my range. I still always get 60-80g protein, 64+ oz Water, a variety of veggies and all my Vitamins.< /p> -

I had just passed goal (-88 pounds) at 7 1/2 months and continued to lose another 10+ pounds. I've maintained for about 7 months at 1400-1600 calories. No idea what my carbs or anything else are because I've never tracked or measured my food. I only know the calories because I spot checked them around 3-5 months, at 6 months and a couple times since then. The only numbers I've ever bothered to pay attention to are Protein (60-80+grams) and fluids (64+oz)
However, your body is not like anyone else's, so I wouldn't spend too much time trying to compare to others. If you are losing and you feel good and your bloodwork looks good then just keep doing what you're doing.

That's wonderful and your hard work has definitely paid off. I'm starting to get back into cloths that I haven't seen in a few years. I'm hoping I drop more weight by summer. I use my fitness pal for a food journal and I have a fit bit that tracks all my activity. I found that I try to hit all my fitness goals daily. Thanks so much for all your help. I wish you continued success. One quick question.. do you follow a special diet?

Mindy my starting weight and hight is the same as yours. I feel I'm loosing very slow and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Would you mind letting me know where you were at 2 month? I'm down 25 pounds. We're you at 1200 calories from the beginning? I would appreciate any advice you can pass down.

I'm 9 months out and have surpassed my goal. My daily calorie count ranges from 850 to 1050, but usually comes in at about 925. My carbs are at about 75g per day, but some of that is Fiber from Quest bars and Fiber gummies. I also try to eat fibrous vegetables at most meals. The other source of carbs is yogurt, which is my most common Breakfast. I'm switching from Activia light to Oikos Triple Zero. That will bring my sugar number down a bit.
I would really like to increase my calories to a more sustainable 1200, but I don't know how without gaining. I'll be working on that over the next few months.
