@sandymom I had my surgery on the 18th. I too would love a friend that I could talk to about what we are going through. Let's face it no one but someone who has been there knows what we are going through. I have my emotional days, today is one of them. I think I'm just needing to get out more jtausdrew@gmail.com or private message me. Tricia
  2. I just got back one week ago tomorrow. surgery july 18. with dr garcia Ask away!!!
  3. I thought the same thing. I'm a week out and I remember laying in the bed thinking Why have I done this to myself, Am I crazy? I saw a lady walking in the halls who was 1 day ahead of me and she looked like she was having no problems at all. I told my husband I will never be like that. 2nd day I wasn't quite as chipper as she was but I was feeling more normal. I too had trouble getting liquids down. Especially the Gatorade, YUCK!! I liked the apple juice so every time I got up to go to bathroom or walk I took a sip. That's the thing sipping is your new normal. The day they sent me back to hotel ( I had mine in Mexico) I was ready and had more energy then I thought I would ever have. You will get past this...Promise!!! Congrats on making an awesome decision for your health.
  4. I had my surgery July 18th, 2014 with Dr Garcia. He is amazing as is the staff. Everyone went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. The hospital? It's a hospital, you aren't going to get your good rest there. That will happen when you get back to your hotel. The hotel beds I'm still dreaming about they were so comfortable. At the hospital I noticed that the nurses during the day spoke better English, night staff wasn't as fluent. But you have some fun times trying to tell them what you need. Take slippers you will need to walk every chance you get. I also would take gas strips, I wish I had. I had horrible gas pains that the pain meds did nothing for. Better safe then sorry. After surgery they will very quickly get you back into your own clothes make sure these are loose and thin. My only complaint is they keep the place HOT, they will bring a fan in if you ask for it. For your companion take plenty of snack items. Eduardo who is your contact at the hospital took my husband one day to Breakfast but the rest of the meals he ordered Subway which got expensive. Take plenty of small bills not only for the food but for tipping. We got a good laugh at what he got back in Pesos it was different every time even though he ordered the same thing. They give you a packet when you leave with phone #'s and emails for everyone you have had contact with including drs. I've emailed about a half a dozen times with questions and got a response almost immediately. For the trip home loose clothing, check bag if possible and if you can bring a pillow it really helps to put over your stomach. Most of all realize that you are having surgery it isn't a vacation, have a great attitude knowing that you have made the best decision for YOU. Since I've been home I've lost 12 pounds, BP is normal no BP meds, blood sugars normal not taking any diabetic meds. Already my quality of life has improved. The liquid diet has been my hardest hurdle, I'm not hungry but I know I have to eat. The head hunger/ cravings are crazy, the things that I've thought sound so good even though I know I'm not hungry. Changing my mindset to eat to survive not survive to eat. Blessings to all!! Tricia Total loss pre/post op 40 pounds.
  5. I think my last post was lost in translation. So here is what I was thinking off. I am 4 days post op. Finally home from Mexico. I have so many ideas that would make stay not only your stay more comfortable but your companions also. As soon as I'm up and feeling 100% I will get that done. Don't regret a minute of it. Those that still have it to come Your life is going to change for the best and you are already healthier!! Tricia sleeved 7-18-14 Garcia 9 pounds down. ( that's 4 days)
  6. We have made it to Mexico. So far I'm so impressed. The hospitality is #1. I go to the hospital tomorrow morning around 645 I should be done by noon. Today has been long , we have been travelling since 3 am and we are tired. Turning in early. Getting excited and I have everything to lose. Meaning that in a good way!!! Blessings to all who are still waiting... it will be here before you know it. Tricia Sleeve 7-17-14 Tijuana, Mexico Dr Garcia
  7. Why Mexico?I have about a dozen friends in this area that have gone. That was what first made me start doing my research. My insurance wouldn't cover in the states so I knew this might be an option. The price was where it needed to be 4400. I contacted Ready 4 a Change and spoke with my contact person alma. She sent me more information and at that point after discussing with my dr I felt this was the way to go. If you look it up you will see pictures of facility it is 5 star all the way. The hotel is clean and luxurious and the hospital is cleaner than I've ever seen her in the states. I know that they can show anything in pics but I asked others that had gone and they agreed that the pics were what you got. That doesn't mean I'm not nervous but that would be if I was having it in states. Tricia 7-18-14 Dr Garcia Tijuana, Mexico
  8. I'm now 4 days away from leaving and having surgery on Friday. I keep telling myself that this time next week we will be on our way home. My nerves are starting to get the best of me. I know i can do this, I've made it through the liquid diet if I can do that my will power has to be stronger than I thought. My biggest fear is the pain on the way home since it will be day 3 post op. I just hope the plane ride home is easier than I'm thinking it will be. Ok thanks for letting me get my thoughts out. I'll keep July sleevers posted on my progress when I get home. Tricia 7-18-14 surgery date Dr Garcia Tijuana, Mexico
  9. I'm scheduled for July 18th, 2014 in Mexico. I've had about a dozen friends who have gone to Mexico and had a wonderful experience. Price was something I could afford. I'm on my 10 protein liquid diet. Let's just say it is kicking my butt...LOL!! I'm excited, nervous and I would be kidding everyone if I said I wasn't scared. This is a lifestyle change that is forever. I'm so glad a found a forum that I can follow and can help keep me inspired. Tricia
