amorga got a reaction from Sleeved Nurse in Sleeve surgery and PCOS
So I have a question for you ladies. I have been attempting to get pregnant for two years prior to my surgery and agreed to pause my efforts for awhile. I would like to know how long everyone waited and if they wish they had waited longer or tried sooner. I want to lose more weight so I can be a healthy mommy, but I want to try as soon as possible.

Hey everyone! I just got my results for my 3 month labs and they are looking awesome! My Protein,
b, etc...are all normal and my A1c is downtown 5.5!!!!! Only wacky thing was my thyroid is a little hyper but just barely so we will recheck in 6 weeks. So happy with this decision and down 56 pounds so far!

Wow, I'm surprised at how much time off everyone takes. I was back at work with no restrictions after a week and a half. I was definately tired working in a coronary intensive care unit where we have a lot of heavy patients that need repositioning. They were nice enough to give me a lighter assignment for about a week coming back, but my surgeon gave me no weight restrictions going back. Feel you guys are lucky to be able to get so much time to recover! Pre-made Protein Shakes were my saving grace. Premier Protein I felt had the best taste and the most Protein per bottle. You guys will do great and good luck to you all!

I am off to the OR at 2:30 today. I am both excited and scared, even though I am a nurse. I know this is not the "be all-end all" of soultions. I will have to WORK and work hard the strict and rigid plan I they have placed me on. I am ready. I am ready to be normal weighted and not have my weight be what holds me back.
Check in with you all, later in the weekend.

You'll hear a ton of different answers. My doctor doesn't recommend pregnancy for 18 months after surgery. He said that pregnancy under 6 months could be dangerous, and if I were to get pregnant before 6 months, I should consider termination for my safety. Also, he warned that even if the pregnancy was uncomplicated (although miscarriage is common), developmental delays were very possible if under 6 months. I'm happy to be out of that zone, but I'll be waiting at least 18 months before discussing trying with my husband.

Thanks guys for the support. We sleevers got to stick together. Hard to discuss issues with people who discriminate or people who just don't understand. ????

@@Karen Scott - Karen - my doctor and his assistant both told me the day after my surgery to NOT expect weight loss the first month... they suggested that I stay off the scale for at least the first 3 weeks. They explained that the surgery backs up the Water in your system and you will retain water from the swelling. And your job for the first 3 weeks is to get in what ever kind of liquid and Protein that you can get in... that you should try to limit the carbs and sugars - but dehydration should be my only concern for the first 3-4 weeks. They told me that once I progress to chewing chewing chewing my solids - then I will start to see the weight loss come off... they said that most sleeve patients will see the majority of their weight come off between the 2nd and the 6th months.... and that depends on the amount of exercise you do verses the proper foods that you eat. So I wish your doctor had shared that with you... I have gone against his wishes and weighed myself out of curiosity - but I know in the back of my mind that the stagnant scale is only temporary. I have a friend that had this surgery in May of 2013... and she started near my same starting weight - she said she didnt lose much at all until about her 3rd month... when she could start working out in a gym... but to date she says she has lost nearly 160 lbs!!! And my doctor said its MUCH better to lose slower - he suggested 2-3lbs a week ONLY so that your skin can try to keep up. So please dont get discouraged - you gave your body the jump start it needed... now wait and let your body figure out how to live the rest of its life on what you have done.

I'm 1 month post-op on week 5 of my eating plan, still soft foods. I just don't know how many calories I should be getting in. I'm doing good to get in 500-600 a day. I haven't lost any weight this past week and it is a little discouraging. I'm too tired to get any exercise in, take naps daily. However, I did have something wonderful happen this week. I had my blood pressure taken. I was concerned since I haven't taken any bp meds since my surgery. It was 117 over 78!! What!!! I don't not have to take any more bp meds already!! Plus diabetes symptoms are all gone!! The number on the scale doesn't seem to matter as much when I get news like this!!

Last night went pretty well overall. I ended up having to do some CPR on a patient 30mins into my shift and I didn't feel sore afterwards. I helped with some boosting and turning, but not a whole lot during the night. Being a CNA I would imagine you may do a lot more of that, I just lucked out last night was pretty quiet. I did begin to feel slightly sore and tired come 3am and took some Tylenol which helped the achyness. So that would be my suggestion, bring pain meds! I kinda wish I requested to only do 8 hr shifts my first weekend back, but like you I couldn't really afford to be off much longer. Good luck!

Well it's Friday morning... Things are slightly better. I came to a realization last night when I woke up in the middle of the night with horrible nightmares and a headache from heck that it couldn't be the liquid pain killer because I haven't had any. Come to find out.....I have been missing my dose of Xanax, I googled withdrawal symptoms from Xanax and it had every single symptom I was having. Headaches, nightmares, remembering bad experiences from the past, hyper sensitivity, impending sensation of doom or death. NOT GOOD! so my husband crushed me up a Xanax, I took that along with the liquid pain reliever. I woke up this morning with no headache, pain is more tolerable. I am still sore and bloated like heck but I am hoping things get better from this point on. I need to get me a pill box and out the meds in I need so my husband will know which meds I need to take. I don't even know if they gave me the Xanax in the hospital. What an absolute horrible experience. It seems so stange to me that when I talked to the doctors office yesterday that they didn't mention any of this to me or question me about what meds I was taking. Gas x does work and I don't know why the doctors don't recommend taking that from the beginning. As soon as I read that on here and started taking that it worked. I am happy to hear most others are not having major issues. I am sorry for posting so many issues the last few days.....I was at a loss and was feeling horrible and I didn't know where else to go or what to do. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR REPLIES AND SUGGESTIONS. you all helped me to see the light at the end of the tunnel. ❤️❤️❤️

Hey you have to let me know how it goes!!!! I have been wondering about that. I am a CNA for Hospice and I will be back to work next week which will be. 2 1/2 weeks after my surgery. Have been nervous about going back to work, but can't afford to be off longer. I also work 8pm - 8am 12 hour shift overnight..... Please share your experience with me and any tips about going back will help.

good luck with returning to work! Being prepared by bringing something is the way to go
Just please be careful lifting. I came back today to a desk job and the dr. put "No heavy lifting" as a restriction on my return to work form. I'm two weeks today.

Tonight will be my first night back to work, just over 2 weeks after surgery. I wasn't given any restrictions, so I hope it's a good night. I work as a nurse in coronary ICU and it can get pretty crazy busy. A good portion of our patients aren't very mobile and tend to be large, so I do a lot of heavy lifting between turning ventilated patients or assisting a weak one to the bathroom. Love my job, just hope I'm healed up enough where i don't hurt myself. Gonna bring a high Protein Shake with me just in case I don't get a chance to get a lunch. 7pm-7am, not looking forward to it...

yesterday was my first full day home. I got almost all my Protein in. I drank as much as I could but it if really hard sometimes. I dnt think I got quite enough fluids in. I tried alittle applesauce and my sleeve seemed to tolerate it well. did a lot of walking yesterday, and it actually made me feel good. my muscles don't feel sore today and gas pain has been minimal. I still occasionally take my pain medicine because I want to stay ahead of the pain and if it makes it easier to get my walking in then that's a plus too! lol belly is still tender where the pulled my stomach out. other than that the incisions are looking good.
definitely made the right decision ! congrats and good luck to everyone!

I have a wallet card too, but i know medical personnel are trained to look for med ID bracelets, they don't necessarily go digging through your wallet right away in an emergency. Also, i don't always carry my bulky wallet with me.

Today is post-op day 9 and I'm feeling so much better. Still only getting about 32oz of liquids, barely hitting my Protein goals, and tire quickly, but my pain has almost gone away. I have slight aching in my upper abdomen and my incision sites are itchy, but I can move around better and am finally able to lay on my side comfortably to sleep! Can't wait till I can sleep on my belly again, but it's a start and I'll take it!

Today is Day Five post-op (was sleeved August 18).
I am doing GREAT! Did three loads of laundry this morning, folded, hung and put it all up.
    Tummy is only mildly sore.
Am amazed at how well I'm drinking, sipping, slurping.
Am up to 49 grams of protein/day (yesterday). Going up every day. Not trying to be the World Champ during Week One -- just do a little better every day.
I lost THREE FREAKIN' POUNDS LAST NIGHT! That's a personal best, for sure! (And yes, I'm probably still shedding IV weight. But it's still 4 pounds less than just before surgery.)
In other words (knock on wood), I'm lovin' this.
