  1. Hello everyone,

I'm just curious if anyone has any idea on how long I should wait to go in a public swimming pool after surgery. I want to keep my incisions safe :). Thanks!

I was cleared to get on the pool once my incisions had healed over with no holes. It was about 4 weeks pay-op. Definitely ask this question at your follow-up appointments. It really depends on how well you are healing.

  2. Hey guys, I feel like I've come to a halt in regards to food! Like I'm not interested in it to an extent. I look for recipes online but I just don't have the craving/temptations. Is this normal?

What is on your post-op food plan? It is important to follow the food stages carefully as you heal. Even if you don't have an appetitive (which is very normal) you need to treat eating like a prescription. Getting in enough nutrition, especially Protein and fluids, is critical for healing and for weight loss.

At three weeks I was on soft foods: which meant things like tuna, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, deli turkey, chili, etc.

Your primary focus should be making sure you are getting in all of your Protein and fluids.

The World According to Eggface blog has lots of ideas for each food stage.

  3. I thank you all for the advice. Please know it's not that I'm wanting a miracle I know that's not the case. But Ijust wanted advice as to if this was normal. I work with 2 other ladies who have also had the surgery and know that everyone is different as well. But since this is new for me I just didn't know if it was the norm. And partly because I know the doctor expects to see some weight loss when I go back in two weeks. I have lost 14 pounds in 6 weeks so again wasn't sure if that was the norm. I appreciate Lloyd the comments

  4. I am almost 60 days post op. I am having a so so time. this is a lot harder than I thought it would be. The biggest problem I'm having is the lack of support for my family and friends. my sister who I thought was my biggest supporter turns out to be trying to sabotage me. every time I'm with her she always is offering me food for offering to go out to eat or trying to give me alcohol. I heard her talking to another family member about how upset she is that I'm losing so much weight and she's trying to lose weight The right way. she said she would be damn if she will have me become skinnier than her so she's trying to make me fail. this is very hurtful why would somebody do this? I have a long road to go and I'm just afraid that I'm not gonna be able to go through it alone.

Wow. It sounds like your sister has some serious issues. All I can suggest off the top of my head is to: 1) love her, 2) set and enforce the boundaries that you need to take care of yourself, 3) talk with a professional therapist or counselor about healthy ways of coping and interacting with her if you need guidance, and 3) take care of yourself first.

Although it may seem impossible, please try not to take her actions and attitude personally. Marshall all of your other resources: this site, a support group, your Bariatric team, a therapist or counselor, books/reading, etc.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

  5. Hi I'm Lisa from the uk. Had my gastric sleeve 19th oct. really struggled the first week , mostly from wind (very painful). I'm feeling great now ...but concerned about not loosing any weight for over 2 weeks. I lost 28 lb really quickly during the pre op diet and first couple of days after operation . I have only lost 2lb in the last 3 week , really slow. I have read about the stalls but can't help thinking I am doing something wrong. Hope the weight will start shifting soon as it is worrying me that this process is not going to work for me. I would appreciate to hear about people experienced and any advice would be appreciated

How are you doing at getting in all of your Protein and fluids?

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. We all experience stalls, and just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery.

Just follow your program and make sure you are getting enough fluids and Protein.< /p>

  6. I am 6 weeks out from my gastric sleeve and I have lost 26 pounds. For the last week and a half I haven't lost any weight. I have been increasing my work outs with no prevail. It's still hard for me to get all 60 oz of Water in a day but I've been eating my Protein and drinking Protein shakes to at least get that in. I don't know what else I should be doing /:

  7. I am having my surgery in January 2017. My body is having problems with pain in my feet, diabetes, etc and I having a hard time working. Has anyone gone on disability before the surgery? If so, was it easy? What do you say? Thanks

Actually, I was going through the disability process at the time I was preparing for surgery. It is not an easy process. It takes time and an attorney. The process is designed in a way that just about everyone is denied and you must go through an appeals process. The sooner you apply the better. Good luck!

  8. It's more likely due to the nicotine. Second-hand smoke is just as bad as smoking. It's not good for a healthy person let alone someone healing from surgery.

Interesting! I didn't know nicotine is in second hand smoke. So does that mean second hand smoke is addicting since nicotine is the drug that causes the addiction?

  9. I think it could be because of coughing? Anyway, my surgeon said nothing about it. I even told him that I was a pot smoker. It was never an issue at all! And I was so f**king nervous to say it too! LOL!! All they said is don't smoke cigarettes yourself.

But if it's stressing you out then that's not good at all. It is your grandparents house and they are allowed to do what they want, even if it's not nice. It sucks but my mom is similar and I've dealt with it for years.

And since it's something you're focused on and upsetting you that's probably good idea to make things easier on both of you for six weeks or so.

  10. For those of you that lost 100+ pounds, were you constantly losing? When did it slow down? Where were you at 3, 6, 9 months?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience stalls and slow downs in weight loss. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight, you will experience stalls.
