  2. I started at Fitday.com and then moved to SparkPeople I love the site. I love the motivation that I get from being on a Team of LapBanders that are striving for the the same goals and are motivated. I alos love being able to log all of my fitness and food and keep that on track. I like the rewards the site affords with its SparkPoints as well and I also track my water and fruit and vegtables here as well. It lets you set other goals as well not just weight. Love it, love it!!
  3. Are there any bandsters from my area? Looking to meat some folks from my neck of the woods on here. We have a great local support group that meets monthly. But I would like to have the same support on here from locals.....LOL I am in Peoria.
  4. Julie: You have been one of my mentors that I look up to on this site. Your positive reinforcement that I would read while waiting to be banded really helped me in my mindset going into my surgery. I feel it is so very important to have the goal oriented and go get em mindset with this, I also believe that the more you put into your bands success the more successful you will be. Lady you have done a fantastic job in one year. You have made some of the hardest decisions and choices anyone should ever have to make. You are healthier both mentally and physically which helps us to deal with daily ups and downs in our lives much more headon. Congratulations for being a MOTIVATOR for myself and others here at LBT. I am truly grateful to have people like you here. I am certain your goal will be met sooner than later. Hugz,
  5. I know there was a thread about these before. I can't seem to find them. Can you tell me what you guys are having engraved on yours again? Jack I really wanted to know what you had again. Thanks for replying a second time to the same sort of thread guys!!
  6. I was terrified of this before being banded. I was a 2-3 glass of something with my meals. I could not imagine not drinking. Let me honestly say that it has not been a huge issue for me. I follow the rules and I monitor it closely I like to wait 45 minute to an hour after my meals before I drink, and I do believe this is one reason I am not hungry. The food will stay in your pouch longer if you do not push it out with liquid therefore causing you to remain fuller longer. I looked at this way......if they were saying this was highly important.....in our classes before surgery.....it was not to torture but to bring success in the process. I was able to adjust to it just fine. As long as you drink, drink, drink before and after and keep well hydrated you will not need the drink with the food. It has truly amazed me that I do not even try to drink with meals. Hope this helps, and great luck with your upcoming Surgery!!
  7. Well my 22 size suite is history after 50 pounds gone I can no longer deal with the sag everywhere. I do Water aerobics three times a week and the bouncing is killing the GIRLS...LOL I found as suit after looking everywhere for just a regular tank suit, that would tighlty support my breasts. LOL that is a joke. They do not make them for D cup women...LOL I found my suit at Walmart and it fits great it is a size 18......I imagine in another 4 months I may need a new one again.....oh the price of becoming thin.....LOL I think I can live with it!!!!!
  8. My prayers are with you Lady!! I had a hysterectomy at 35 and it was the best damn thing ever....LOL I hope everything is benign and you recover quickly......Hugz!
  9. Thanks everyone!! I am taking it easy and drinking lots and lots of Water. I miss the gym but don't have any energy to get back there just yet. I will be glad when the cough and fever go away....LOL They gave me the Tamaflu shot so I hope it will nip this thing!! More snow on the way tonight....yeah!!
  10. I was banded on Nov 9 2007 with a 10cc band. I have had no fills and I am losing just fine! I am can feel the 50 pounds lost......I should hit that I am hoping in the next week or so.
  11. Congratulations!! I too am no longer morbidly obese.....I am just Obese, I am thrilled with that at this point. You go girl you will be "Healthy" in no time!!
  12. I agree with Jack..what does your surgeon suggest. This is not a healthy diet. What you describe is an eating disorder in the making. Solid protein is what you should be eating and it is what keeps us fuller longer. I was told to stay away from soups and soft foods that would flow through my band. Simply because they defeat the purpose of the band. I am following this advice and it works wonders for me, as I have had no FILL and am not hungry. 14 weeks out and I feel great. I am able to eat meat and other foods without much problem as long as I chew them very very well. I would think they would want to find out why you cannot eat.

  14. Elle I am with ya...Yes I miss working out more than eating....LOL I can't believe that I am saying that.....my brother was over this weekend and he said I look amazing, but he said even more amazing is my dedication to the gym! My brother weighs 160 pounds soaking wet....LOL He is 6 feet tall and has always been a swimmer. He has never had a weight problem. He is happy that I have taken up being active. He said he would never have bet on that I would. He hugged me and told me how proud he was of me for that. I do feel like working out has changed my whole attitude as well as how much better I feel emotionally and physically. No going back...to the sedintary life I had so become accustomed too that is for sure!
  15. We were told to be on Clear Liquids for 5 days prior to surgery. We had to have Protein added to these clear liquids however. I used unjury chicken flavor and had broth. We could eat as much of the clear liquids as we wanted no limits. I admit the first couple of days were not fun since I did this while working fulltime. However, I stuck to it, and I lost 10 pounds in 5 days and jump started my weightloss, I am glad I did not cheat. It is very important to shrink your liver, because it is directly in the way of this surgery, and it is also easy to nick it. As it was my spleen was nicked and I spent the night in the hospital. I am not for cheating in this whole process, simply because cheating is what got me here in the first place. By telling myself this "One time" won't hurt.....LOL Well it hurt me all the way to a whopping 287 pounds. I will never be that lacksidazical again about my weight or about eating the right things. Even now when I do allow myself a bite of indulgence I feel guilt..LOL
  16. I firmly believe that you must be ready for this surgery both physically as well as emotionally. If you truly want to change your life forever, and do what it takes to make those changes last, then the band will be a tool to assist you in those endeavors. But if you just want a quick fix to your life long struggle with obesity then you will most likely not succeed. I have two people that I work with who both had RNY one fours ago and one 3 years ago. They are both gaining back their weight, one has already topped her highest weight and the other one has regained 50 pounds. Y you ask? Because they refused to eat with the pouch. You cannot overeat ever again with WLS. This means you cannot choose to eat over the size of your pouch if you do, you will sabotage the whole process. They eat enormous amounts of food again. I can hardly believe it , when I am sitting there with my measly three ounces of food. Sad to say but they know they are doing it. WLS is not a bandaid to cover up our emotional eating problems, it will not repair them at all......we have to do this all on our own. We have to work through those issues as to what makes us eat when we are NOT hungry. I have not had any real hunger since being banded....and I have not had a FILL yet. I am one of the few.....but happy!! Whatever choice you make......go with it and let no one deter you from your goal. Let no one sabotage your effort......the band will help you reach every goal you set.......but you are the one in control NOT the band!! Good Luck with your adventure!! We are all here for you.
  17. Thanks Jill...I am in bed as we speak just sitting here bundled in covers and shivering......I am going to have some hot Soup for supper just to warm me up a bit. I have no desire to eat.....but am very thirsty.....guess that is the fever!! I hope everyone stays well out there, it is not fun being sick with the band.....they were worried about my hydration already. Hope it passes soon!
  18. I agree with Shortgal here......you have to be careful of getting an eating disorder here......they warned us of people who get banded and then will not touch solids....they just drink their calories and eat Soup. Your body is not made to go without solid food......if you do it for too long it will not accept it once you start back, this is onething that happens with anorexia nervosa patients. So be very careful of your liquids and no solids. And you should be getting 60 grams of Protein minimum in the 1st 3 months after surgery and our surgeons like you to keep it at that forever if you can. I would say you might need unfilled, sounds like you are too tight!
  19. Yeap it is official went to the Dr this afternoon straight from work, got the nasal swab and yeap the flu.....I had my flu shot and everything.....but the flu shot is only working at 40% so they tell me. I hope this passes quickly, the cough is killing me and I am worried as to what it might do to my band......but I am off work for now, going to rest and take it easy....but I am upset I can't work out.....he said no working out til I am better. I guess I should just be happy that the pounds are melting away.....right? I am truly I am, I just beat myself up when I can't get to the gym I have become addicted to the working out. Everyone at work has been sicker than dogs it is no wonder I finally could not ward it off anymore....LOL. I have been so happy that I made it all winter without getting sick....I chalk it up to eating healthier for sure!!
  20. I know I am the odd one out.....but yes I have restriction.......LOL I think that is why I have not felt real hunger since my band was put on. I am thrilled with that trust me. I Know how lucky I am for that as well. But oh god the band hurts when you get stuck....LOL I hate that I have PB'd twice but I know folks who do it much more often that have had lots of fills as well!! Hugz Ladies on our great success!!
  21. Congratulations LADY and hugs on a job well done! I can't wait to feel that elation with you!! I am so happy for you and you are gonna be at goal before you know it!!
  22. I have only twice. The last time was on Friday night on a piece of Lebanese bread.....I knew better, but thought I would try it anyway I love it grew up on it....LOL But it got stuck bigtime and I had a bad bad PB and it hurt for awhile after. I was so upset and felt bad I went to bed after it happened. LOL I will not be anxious for it to happen again....trust me!
  23. Well I began this journey at 287 pounds and I am 240 today and heading downward. I have already went from a tight size 26-28 to a size 20 pants and from a XXXL shirt to a XL or Large in some cases. I know that this is the first time in over 5 years that I have seen the scale consistently move downward. I still have 100 pounds to lose as my goal is 140 pounds...3 pounds heavier than I was when I got married. When I lost my son in 1988 to cancer ( Adam was 4 1/2) I weighed 187 pounds and I put on 100 pounds over the next 20 years. I am thrilled with my band and my success to date. I work out 6 times a week and I do Water aerobics and weight training (body pump) and I walk on the treadmill and do the stationary bike as well. I love all the activity and my body feel so much better for it......my fibromyalgia is better.....and I sleep better and wake up not tired...which is a life changing thing for me. I can actually hold my grandsons on my lap now as I found my lap in the past three months.....LOL I am anxious to see the 2 leave the front of my weight which is 40 more pounds.....and my goal by June 1st.....! My husband is leaving for Afghanistan the second week of May and I know that will be a highly emotional and hard time for me. Last time he was gone in 2005 in Iraq I gained 50 pounds.....I will NOT DO THAT this time I vow!! Congratulations to everyone here for their great success and keep up the terrific job.....We are all in this fight together!!
  24. I first want to say you are doing fabulous...50 pounds since surgery is awesome and you should be very proud of that!! Second I would rethink the amount of food you are eating.....again the pouch is suppose to be tiny nor more than 4 ounces.....that is right at 1/2 cup of volume. I believe you are eating way too much......but with that said.....you should of been given some direction by your Dr? I have no idea how you can eat protein and vegtables and fruit like that with your meals.....I barely have room for the protein and I have NO FILL!!...LOL I also agree with the other posters......lower those CARBS and increase your protein....Get in between 80 and 100 grams of protein and you WILL see the scale move again. Also are you drinking enough water? This is so important and I know you said you were.....just be sure. YOu also did not mention if you are logging your food but I would suggest that you do this, it will help you see where you might have issues. The exercise you are doing is AWESOME keep that up. I have had weeks with no scale movement then I will lost 5 pounds over night. It happened this weekend to me. So do not get discourgaed. I would try these hints and see if you can jump start your metabolism again. Good luck with it!!
  25. After three months of my life with my band.....I am still shocked when people think that band was suppose to do the work.....I was told straight up that it would be up to me as to whether or not I lost weight with it. I was told that it would depend on my food choices and my Portion Control. Staying within the limits of what my new pouch is suppose to hold. I never eat more than 3 ounces at a meal. I was told not too. So I don't.....I am not hungry.....and I am happy. I have really tried to learn my body and it signals. What I used to think was hunger is dehydration. I know now that when I would run to the snack machine at work what my body was really wanting was Water. I just never drank enough water ever.....Now it is all I drink, except for skim milk and the occasional V-8 that I allow for. I think we all have to come to terms with the fact that the band was put there to keep our portions within reason, sure you can eat around the band. You can also feel the pain, wait a little while and keep on eating.....I know people who have done this. But WHY would you want to do this, when you went through everything. I say if you are doing these types of behaviors hurry to the nearest psychiatric office because you need some serious counseling on why you EAT in the first place. I never ever want to go back to the fast food junkie that I was pre surgery. Or the sedintary blimp that I had become...LOL I love all the moving that I do now and I look forward to it.
