Anyone else newly banded and having a hard time with fluids
Oh Lord I remember this, I had a horrible time getting in the required amount of Fluid. I literally had to stay up late and get up early to have enough time in the day to get it in and I still wasn't doing it consistently til probably 4 weeks out and then it still was a struggle some days. My advice is to sip and sip and sip some more and when you think you can not sip another thing do it some more.....LOL The Water is so very important in getting the fat out.....LOL Good Luck!!

You all really do give me hope...
Welcome and thanks for sharing your very personal experience. I agree that your mom is always with you. She is proud of you for raising your little girl and trying to be the best mom you can for her. You will find this one of the most motivating and uplifting sites for BANDSTERS. It has helped me in so many ways, I found it months before I was banded and began reading everything I could on it......LOL We are all here for you......just ask!! Good Luck!!

health insurance after band
You should be up front with it, because of you do not tell them, then they will not cover anything that happens with it because you did not disclose it to them. However, some will say it is a preexisting condition and some may not depends on the company I believe. Good Luck!!

Lap Band Perspectives
I began this process just as most of you, one year ago I went to my first seminar on the band, and I realized if they can do this so can I. I made the appointment to meet with the surgeon and went to the classes that you have to attend first. I scheduled surgery Nov 9th. I have also not looked back. I am thrilled with my nearly 70 pounds in 4 months and with no fill to boot! I have become healthier than I have been in my adult life. I can run up three flights of stairs.....and I can walk 5 miles and still have energy to go shopping. I can pick up my grandsons both of them at the same time.....one is 4 and one is 17 months. I have a lap again......I am nearly in a size 18 and will be saying goodbye to the 20's forever. I am actually feeling SEXY for the first time in over 5 years. I love this part. I have actually been asked what changed to give me so much confidence I guess I walk with it now. LOL I actually walked past a group of guys at the mall last weekend and they actually turned to look at me, that made this grandma smile believe you me.....LOL I still have 80 pounds to go, but I know that I can do this, and I am happy to stay the course. I love how my body is reshaping itself. I love the closeness that I have found with others who have made this journey with me, this group here is wonderful in supporting me in my goals and making me feel good about my accomplishments. I have never been good at compliments, they are getting easier to hear each and every day. Congratulations to us all!!!

What kind of excerise is everyone doing?
I do Water aerobics three times a week and a Body Pump class once a week, and I walk on the treadmill for and hour and do biking as well I work out at a local gym that I joined three months before my surgery. It has been the best investment I have ever made. I afford it easily by the $ saved on food that I was spending before surgery. I can't imagine not working out. I love the high feeling that I get from it. I keep it mixed up though so my body does not get used to the exercise. I am meeting with a personal trainer soon, so hopefully he will help me do just that.

Central Illinois Peoria-Bloomington Area
LOL Carol I have been shopping alot in my closet. I still have tons of size 18 and 16 and 14 that I am eyeing, I will be in them soon I hope. It seems to be teasing me right now, I am nearly there, but not quite...LOL

How many calories do you eat on average?
I try to stay between 1000-1200 a day, and I do that fairly well except the week I had strep and that was a bad week I hardly ate anything. I know it is important to eat so that your body believes it will not be starved.

Taking Medication After Surgery
I took larger pills but I cut them in half and have had no problem with them, however I do not have a fill, I am not sure what trying to swallow it whole would of felt like, but I would rather not risk it.

Protein...
unjury is a good source of Protein as well....20 grm per serving I was told 60+ grams per day for ever!!

Is it possible to have restriction without fills?
I have not had a fill and I am 4 months out and I am losing just fine. My surgeon said he will not even consider filling me til my weightloss slows dramatically. He said I have lost the amount of weight that some lose in a years time. I am happy with my status thus far.

I vary this but try to stay within 1000-1200 per day, but I do vary and try to keep it mixed up so that metabolism does not get stagnate.

Not losing weight
First of all...Listen to yourself....You have lost 20 pounds in 8 days??? That is awesome weight loss......be kind to you. You just had major surgery and your body is in recovery. It will continue to heal and you will begin losing. Just follow the band rules to the letter and you will see the weight come off. The first 6 weeks after surgery is about healing your body and your band. Making sure you do not introduce solid food too quickly so that your band heals into place. Drink lots and lots of water, this is also very important and believe me you will see results.

Thank you Kendra!! Yes it is all about being patient and letting your body adjust to what is happening. My body loses in chunks of weight, it holds on to it and then poof overnight I lost 5 pounds....that has been its norm so far that is. I am thrilled with my results, and I am very lucky to have done it all with no fill to date....Yippee!! Stay the course that is my mantra!!
