About Me

My name is Amber. I am 29 years old, and I have been struggling with obesity since the age of 15 when I was also diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome. It started out with just being overweight and then different medications and medical conditions have added to my weight to where now I am morbidly obese. I learned to look past my weight and see the beauty within myself. I finally was "ok" with my appearance. I have been having more and more medical issues lately. Most of them are related to my weight. I have been having chest pains for a while now. The doctors have done test after test to make sure that it is not my heart, and I am very lucky to say that my heart is healthy. About 2 months ago I had another attack of chest pains where I was hospitalized over night to be monitored because I was high risk. That night, I did not sleep. I made the decision that I was done being "ok" with my body. I knew it was time to do something about my weight before something bad does happen. I knew that if I kept going the way I was, then I would be dead at a very early age. The day that I got out of the hospital, I made a call to find out when the next informational seminar was for weight loss surgery. On July 7th, my mom, my boyfriend, and myself attended the informational seminar. The next day I called to schedule an appointment to see my PCP to ask for a referral letter for the weight loss surgery. I was very nervous because we had discussed weight loss surgery before and he told me that he was against it, but this time he saw how serious i was and on July 16th I was given my referral for the surgery. I just need my appointments all set up to get the process started now. I am very excited but nervous at the same time. I have a very strong support system though. They will help me through it.
