How is it possible that at 5ft3ins and 177lbs I an able to fit into size 10 slacks? I'm I really a size 14 in clothes made back in tge 1980s and 1990s?

Clothes have gotten bigger to make people feel better about themselves. A current size four or six would have been a eight to twelve in the 80's. I don't usually quote Wikipedia, but they do have info on "vanity sizing": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanity_sizing
