  1. i'm on day three of pre-op and also hate sugar-free taste. I was just talking to my husband about this very thing last night. I told him that I sure hope my taste changes after surgery so I can sugar-free and enjoy it some.
  2. I'm being sleeved October 27th. It cannot get here soon enough. Excited!!

  4. Thank you all! My hubby and I dated all through highschool and married 3 days after we graduated. I can't imagine life without him. He spoils me rotten and I'm so very thankful that he loves me for me. But I too feel guilty as I am nearly twice the size as the person he married and I have the comorbitities to go along with that issue. I don't EVER want him to worry about me not loving him. We joke around alot also and I do believe that I have said something to effect of me not willing to train a new guy. LOL
  5. My sweet hubby of 32 years is more than supportive in my journey. My surgery is scheduled for October 27th. The other night he said to me, "I hope you still love me when you're all skinny". He's overweight but not obese and I still think he's the sexiest man alive. Anybody else's spouse express this concern? I assured him that he is my life and that I will always love him. How did you reasure your honey?
  6. I wish!! My first consult with the Bariatric clinic was June 30th. They made me jump the hoops of NUT, psych, sleep study, and blood work - all before I could even get an appointment with the surgeon. I do understand the reasoning behind it all so that I will be successful. However, the wait time just to get into these appointments has been long and frustrating! I'm now "penciled" in for October 13th as long as my insurance approval gets back by then. I'm told that my process was quick. LOL From some of the posts here, I would agree with that. I have no worries about my insurance approval as we are self-funded and I meet all the criteria. Just tired of waiting. I can hardly wait - the anticipation is killing me.

    Deductible

There is a good article at http://healthinsurance.about.com/od/healthinsurancebasics/a/Out-of-pocket-Maximum-how-It-Works-And-Why-To-Beware.htm. I hope this helps some. There can be so many variables.

    My second attempt

Excited for all you September sleevers! I just got the go ahead from the program review board and now I have a 7 week wait for an appt with the surgeon. What I was hoping would be a mid October surgery is looking more like November only due to scheduling. Bummed!!!

    Deductible

I have to pay whatever is left on my deductible and out of pocket prior to surgery.

    pulmonary / sleep study

I just had my sleep study on Monday. They told me there is a three month back-log plus a wait list. I actually went to the office and asked that if they have any cancellations to please call me. Two days later they called and got me in more than a month earlier than scheduled. Keep on them. Oh-by the way, I PASSED!
  11. With the facility Pathway I can't even get an appointment with the surgeon until I have gone through all the hoops. I understand the necessity of it all to be successful but the wait between appoinment times is crazy and I feel like I have been left in limbo. The bariatric staff does not keep in touch. Feeling discouraged. All I have left is the sleep study which could be September before there is an opening.

    6 month wait

Our facility has a Bariatic Pathway. My insurance does not have much for additional requirements other than the BMI/comorbidity. My insurance dictates I use this facility. I met with the primary on 06/30, the NUT and the pysch 07/03/14. Was told that EVERYONE needs a sleep study. Waiting, waiting - two weeks got to see the Pulomary MD for a consult. He says my numbers do not indicate that a sleep study is warrented. waiting, waiting, waiting - a "review panel" discusses my case and decides if I'm a candidate (this is fine but when? they only meet one day per week). They schedule a consult with the surgeon and surgery is scheduled(only done one day per week). Now I understand all this needs to be done for sucess of the the surgery!! I'm not arguing that but this is a Bariatic PROGRAM - there should not be a month or more worth of waiting time between appointments and decisions. In the mean time I am doing very little and have done everything requested of me. Other than the health improvement reasons that I really want to get on top of - I have to concider my job as well. Being gone in October is not an option so all this wasted time by the Pathway may push surgery into November.

    Why hide it?

Thank you for bringing up this topic. I am about a couple months from having the Gastric Sleeve (waiting on the sleep Lab backlog). I'm not an overly private person. In fact I don't generally care what people think. However, I just don't want to explain to, nor hear the opinions of those who have no idea what it's like to be in my shoes. However, I can't imagine keeping it a secret afterward as I fear people will assume I have a life-threating disease like cancer causing the rapid weight-loss. I don't wish for any undue concern so I will gladly tell anyone interested (nosey) about the surgery after it is done.
