1. I use my highest weight 317 lbs which was the weight I was when I was diagnosed with Diabetes. I had lost about 80 lbs and I was on a low dosage of my diabetes medication. I needed to use a cpap machine to breathe and sleep at night. As I have done before I started gaining the weight back. I had regained most of the weight and then when I reached 300 lbs maybe higher my scales wont go any higher my sugar was over 300 as well and I decided I needed to do something in order to keep living. My pre surgery weight is 285 and that is a date I want to track because it is the beginning of my lap band journey. At the time of this writing I am 217 lbs and am almost off my medicine. I no longer use the cpap machine. So in my case both the highest weight and my starting surgery weight have equal importance to me.
2. Finally have lost 100 lbs from my highest weight of 317. I have not been at this weight for 18 years. It has not been easy journey but I do like the restriction that the band brings to my life.
3. I am almost off the diabetic medicine most likely one more month. I also no longer use a cpap machine.
4. I started using benefiber about a month before surgery but even then it was a week before going "normal"

I have had good support and really not a lot of bad feedback. I have many who are watching how I am doing and are considering the lap band for themselves. I have lost 50 to 60 pounds in the past only to gain it back this last time before band I had gain back 40 pounds of what I had lost so they are watching to see if I gain it back again. This time I believe I have found what I have been looking for. My problem was I was a binge eater and I was always hungry from 9 pm to 12 am, so I go to bed at 9 and get up at 5 to go walking for a couple of hours. Needless to say the band does not permit me to binge.
8. I just had to rely on will power till I got my second fill and then I had pretty good restriction. Now after 6 weeks I am eating a little more and have to rely more on will power I will be going in this Thursday to get my third fill which hopefully I will not need any more fills for awhile.
9. I live in the San Francisco Bay area and I am always cold while others around me are warm. I am fortunate that in my office I have my own thermostat so I can keep it warmer then the rest of the office.
10. Both my wife and I used fen/phen and reported that to the doctor and had no problem being banded. Besides if you are being covered by the same insurance they would already have a record of it.
11. Congratulations AZPete! I believe that it is good for us to blow our horn once and awhile.
12. I have an MBA and some people treat me like I am not very bright. But the ones that drive me nuts are people who raise their voice as by speaking louder might help me to understand them.
13. Learn to Ball room dance Become a black Belt in Taekwondo
14. Kbinaz, jack and wombat have good information. Wendel has a sticky thread in the FAQ section that explains the process quite well http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f73/how-lap-band-actually-works-fills-refills-45563/ In any case please do not give up.
15. I have eaten popcorn on two occasion but not very much. Before the lapband I would eat all the popcorn insight. I could never understand how thin people at the movies would leave their half eaten popcorn in their seats. I always wanted to go and pick it up and eat it but never did. I can not believe that I am satisfied after just a couple of handfuls does not seem very fair.
16. I had to change PCP since she did not believe in WLS, She was monitoring my diabetes and I really like her but I was tired of losing and gaining weight back. I switch to a PCP who made a recommendation to a doctor for a lap band and have been very pleased with my process so far.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I hope that in two months I will not be on any medication. I also had to use a CPAP machine prior to the lap band but I no longer have to use one.
17. I have a instant carnation Protein shake with a banana every morning for Breakfast. I have had two fills and am very tight in the morning.
18. I had my 2nd fill on December 10 for a total of 2cc's in a 4cc band and I have good restriction. I have been on vacation the last week and have not had access to a scale so I will be interested to see if I have remained the same.
19. I am doing well I have lost 55 lbs since surgery. I have had two fills and the third fill is schedule on January 24. I have good restriction especialy in the morning and for lunch.
20. I agree that Benefiber is great and can be used cold or hot and dissolves into anything
21. I found that I used to like to eat between 9 & 12 at night. I find that I have good success by getting up at 5:00 to go walking and then by 9:00 I am starting to wind down and will eat one of those sugar free pudding Snacks than go to bed by 9:30 Good luck I hope you find something that will work for you
22. I stopped drinking soda in July two months before surgery. I really do not miss it at all Joe Frank
23. Very nice you should be very pleased. Take care Joe Frank
24. Originally I was not in favor of having the band. My wife decided to go for it and after losing weight and gaining most of it back we decided to do it on the same day. I would certainly do it again. Joe Frank
25. My weight went over 317 pounds and I was worned that I would develop diabeties if I did not lose some wait. Not long afterwards I was drinking tons of Water and I was losing weight but not because I was dieting but diebeties had finaly set in. I also had to use a cpap machine to sleep with. I went on atkins lost 60 pounds my spouse and I went on a cruise where I gained what seemed like 20 pounds in a week and then my run was on. I started taking twice the medication for my diabeties and my health started to fail. Meanwhile my mom had to have both needs replaced and she has had health problems so I could see my future in the mirror. My wife started researching lapband and I was finaly willing to do something about my health. After several months of jumping through hoops with insurance on 9-12-07 my wife and I were both banded. Even though it has not been easy my decision to proceed with the lapband is the best present that I could ever give to myself. I am no longer using the cpap machine and I am taking half of dosage of my diabetic medicine and looking forward in a couple of months to no longer taking any medicine. Joe Frank
