Stuck at 50 lbs
The body sometimes needs to adjust. In my case I would lose 50 lbs or so and then my body seem to rebel and I would not lose any more weight for a few months and then I would give up and gain the weight back and then more. If you click on my weight loss ticker and see my chart you will notice my weight go up and down over the last 6 months. I believe that my body was sort of testing my commitment, and that I would not starve to death. I have now gone under the 200 lb mark and it seems that I am losing again. Plateaus are never fun and some can last for a considerable length of time. Keep hanging in there.

Why am I soooo cold all the time?
I am always cold due to mainly my weight loss. Fortunately I live in Southern CA but there are days when 60 degrees is very cold. Two weeks ago I was in Idaho Falls Idaho and the temp was 7 degrees and the next day it warmed up to 23 degrees. Needless to say I wanted to wear my heavy jacket indoors. Not having to take diabetic medicine or pain pill for back and knee pains and not having to use a CPAP machine anymore makes being cold a little more tolerable. The main benefit is that I can now have a blanky again to provide comfort.

My hubby has his done tomorrow!!!!
My wife and I were banded on 9/12/07, The staff at the hospital thought it was cute that we would do this together. My wife had wanted to do it a year earlier but I am glad that the timing came together to get it done at the same time. The greatest benefit is that we are both doing well and our health has never been better and providing support for each other. It would of been easy to get discouraged, In our prior attempt to lose weight we would do fine for 3 or 4 months but then gain the weight back and more. With the band even though the weight loss has slowed down it has kept me focus and moving in the right direction.

Does any one have regrets on being banded?
My only regret is not having the surgery sooner. I have not been under 200 for 24 years. The last six months have been the hardest as we moved from the San Francisco Area to the Long Beach CA area as a result of a job transfer. I have been gaining and losing he same 5 to 10 lbs for the better part of 7 months. Finally I am losing again. As far as my health is concern I no longer take diabetic medicine. I no longer have sleep apnea and no longer need to be on a breathing machine. I have gone from a size 56 pants to 38. I have gone from a size 19 inch neck to a 15 1/2. I no longer have back and knee pain. I find that walking or jogging give me a great deal of pleasure. While the journey has not been easy it sure has been worth it. My biggest advice is to see each day as a new beginning and do not be so hard on your self.

So Discouraged. I have the small band....
I have the small band and I have about 2.5 cc in mine. Even though I am not losing as fast as I would like I have lost an incredible amount of weight. When I do have plateaus it seems like I can get discouraged and yet even if I am on a plateau I still continue to lose inches. I no longer have diabetic issues, or sleep apnea. I have gone from a bmi of 50 to 32. I have gone from a size 56 waist to a 38 inch waist. Bottom Line just don't just look at weight loss but also at what some fellow bandster call "non scale victory"

If I had my time again.....?
I am very thankful for my band. I originally got the band because I wanted to lose weight because of the difficulty that my mom was having. I had developed diabetes, sleep apnea, was always tired, could barely get off the coach. I had developed severe allergy and was wheezing. Just walking up a single flight of stairs was challenging. I no longer take medicine for diabetes, I longer us a machine for the sleep apnea, I no longer snore, I can out-walk my grandchildren.

How many couples have done the band?
My wife and I were both banded on 9/12/07. Between the 2 of us we have lost almost 200 lbs.

soda... maybe a solution for some
Sounds like a way to go. I too used to drink diet coke when I was 320 lbs

does your fill doctor do this??
My doctor also has me do a sit up and then he does a feel and insert the needle then he has me sit up and remove all the liquid and then refill the port and have me overfills and then backs off a little while I drink some water. He then has me drink some more water to make sure it does not come up.

Calling "hubbies of all Lapbandies" our Forum
My wife and I were both banded on the same day on 9/12/07 and between the both of us we have lost almost 200 lbs. The nurses at the hospital thought it was cute that we were doing this together. It certainly has not been an easy journey but one that we would both do over again. Best of luck to your wife and her new journey having support at home is key.

i am staying on plan today because ...
After years of asking for a seat extension there is no greater feeling then having to tighten up the seat belt from where the previous user had it set, woo hoo!!

I've got to ask this ...
Before I used to eat a great deal of food and drink lots of diet cokes with my meals and normally eat the entire meal in less then 7 minutes as a matter of fact, the quicker the better. In a few hours then I was hungry and started snaking on anything that was available. As a result of the band I cannot eat a huge amount of food, I take smaller bites and chew my food usually a minimum of 25 times and Not drink with my meals the entire process taking 25 to 35 minutes. With the exception of evening I usually do not snack and if i do then it is generally 1/3 of what I would eat before the band. For exercise I do a minimum of 2 hours of walking 6 days a week. My own personally quiet time. Before the Lapband I used to be successful on a diet for 4 to 6 months and lose anywhere from 30 to 45 pounds but then I would gain it back plus 10 more in 3 to 4 months. While I have had extended plateaus with the band where I did not lose weight at times I have even have gain some of the weight back which later I have lost again. The important fact is I have not gone back to binge eating or lost my focus for an extended period of time. You could of course eat 10 tiny meals and gain not lose weight but like others have already mention food is no longer my main focus. One of the interesting thing that happens to me is when I start to get full then I either get the hick ups or my nose start to run so this is my signal to stop eating regardless if my food is finished or not. Best of luck on your upgoing life changing journey.

The Fill Port
My port is located on the left side about two inches below the rib. I can feel it but cannot see it.

How forthcoming are you to people when they ask what you did to lose weight?
I usually tell anyone that ask what I have had the Lap Band and that it is one of the tools that assist me in my weight loss along with exercise. I love the fact tat I have to take small bites and take a long time to eat and I am certainly enjoy meal times a lot more then when I use to stuff as much food as I could get in my mouth in the shortest amount of time.

Business travelers
I tell anyone who ask why I am eating so slowly that I have had a lap band and have usually does not meet with a negative reaction. Pretty hard to hide the fact that I have lost over a hundred pounds

Hey Guys!!
I have found that if I can chew the meat to a liquid in about 25 bites then I usually do not have a problem. If I can not chew it to a liquid in 25 bites then I stay away from it. I have eaten duck, elk, deer, caribou, Buffalo, squid, chicken, pork, cornish game hen, calamari and all kinds of fish.

Saw something I hadn't seen in a few years yesterday
Congratulations on your weight loss and being able to see your belly button. I find it a lot easier to hit the toilet now then a hundred pounds ago.
