    ISO Low BMI Sleeve Mentor

Alexa You could be my twin. Don't doubt what you and your body can do together. I started at 190 one week before surgery and now 5 months out I am 146. 8 pounds until goal. The past two months have been slow but I was told and knew it would be. If you want to chat or ask something message me. I've never once regretted my decision but I've had days where I don't think I could handle whatever it is that's the issue. But here I am, hanging in there and loving it. All the best to you. It sounds like you are off to a great start.

    Pre-surgery

Here in Texas if your insurance won't cover the WLS but will cover the hiatal hernia, the out of pocket is anywhere from $3500 to $10000. U.S. Doctors and they do out of town patients. I paid $8200 oop total. I was the same. Sure I could lose some but the gains were more than the losses. I had sleeve with no issue. I thought I would have to have a band because of low BMI but sleeve was acceptable for me and my surgeon.
  3. I sent you a message. Thought maybe we could chat more about this crazy journey.
  4. Yescobar I don't know my pre-surgery. I didn't weigh. So 190 one week pre op. And My lowest weight has been 146 even. However I'm over that because I have not had a good bm in a couple of days. So I think I'm not going to call these stalls anymore. It's just slow weight loss from now on until goal. I'm still not kicking the exercise up as much as I want. Ugh How are you doing? What are your numbers now.

    Eating Slowly

There is an app for slow eating. I tried pre op and I wasn't really successful. I still eat faster than I should. And yes the discomfort is always there. I would encourage anyone pre op to work on it.

    When was your second stall?

3 weeks of no movement during month 4. I dropped the Protein bars and started exercising more. Glad it passed.

    Whats a reasonable goal

I picked 138 because that's what the Drs chart said. I really don't care. Somewhere near that is great for me. I agree with the others. My body will probably tell me when it's done losing.
  8. It was either that or I didn't go for several days. I'm 5 months out and it's still that way some days. Just make sure to keep your fluids going in because you don't want to get dehydrated.
  9. I take seroquel plus two others. I was able to take my morning medicine the morning of surgery. I got nothing the night after surgery. But didn't need it. They brought in my morning dose in the am and I was discharged that afternoon. I was so lucky that I had no issues swallowing. It did not make me full. So I could take one at a time all in a row. I can now swallow my 4 morning capsules at once and the two night ones including the seroquel. My psychiatrist was very adamant that I take my full dosages. I would recommend having the pill cutter ready just in case.
  10. I'm 5 months out and I'll say I contemplated the lap band and had it scheduled and switched to sleeve after talking it over with my OB, pcp, and psychiatrist. I'm so glad I did and no regrets. I didn't look at bypass and I have a lower BMI so I think it was the best choice for me.

    A bit bummed out

Apurnell I hope you aren't so bummed. 52 pounds in 3 months is super. Especially with the lower starting weight. I was 190 preOp on June 10 surgery on 17th and today 146. That's 44 pounds in 5 months. So hats off to you. I too eat what I want and I'm trying real hard to add in the exercise. I think you need this forum. The posts are helpful and encouraging. Maybe what you are missing is the ability to share your day in and day out with others on the same journey.
  12. I'm 4 & 1/2 months out and stalled for three weeks. I stopped my Protein bars and started yoga. I've dropped 3 pounds in the past 7 days. I just hated the stall and I posted about it here and finally came through it. Hang in there.
  13. Update ... I have discontinued the bars but kept the shake. Feeling better and dropped 2 & 1/2 pounds in the past 5 days ... Even with Halloween. I'm still struggling with eating too fast. It's strange. When I snack I feel bloated but when I don't I feel such hunger for my meal that I eat too fast and I sometimes suffer for up to an hour after. That's what I'm working on now. If I can get that balanced and get a regular exercise regimen going, I'll feel so much better. Thanks so much for the advice. I've never owned a pair of shoes that have been walked in by others so much than here in this forum. Haha.
  14. Hello. I'm 4&1/2 months out and sometimes I feel so bloated and have gas and I'm thinking it is the Protein I'm eating. I get 60 plus a day from a shake a bar and the rest from meals. Can I do a small 3 day "cleanse" off the protein to see if I can get the feeling to go away. At night is when I notice it most. I guess since that is my biggest "meal". I am uncomfortable. I take my ppi in the morning and antacid at night. By morning I'm ok and it starts again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  15. I stalled in my second month for weeks. And just finished another 3 week stall at 4 months. But looking at your diet, you have a lot of carbs throughout the day. A pita , sub sandwich bread, crackers, etc. I find that when I truly eat my protein first by itself then I get full so fast. If I add those carbs, it seems I can eat more. However, that being said, I have had many meals with all sorts Of carbs as well. Can't help it, I love it. I was just kind of surprised with how much you can eat at 2 months. There is no way I could eat a subway kids meal. Or I could not eat the eggs and pita unless I nibbled on it for hours. I'm not trying to be mean or critical because I am in no way working my program as a die hard, but I wanted to add to the thread. I think we all have to use trial and error to guide our way through this journey
  16. Yescobar I'm similar to you. 190 in June. Surgery on 6/17 and today down 42 pounds to 148. Morning: Protein shake Lunch: 4 - 5 bites of pork chop Dinner: slice of meat stuffed pizza. Again only 4 to 5 bites. Snack: maybe almonds or a cheese stick. Treats: maybe 1/2 of a cookie or 3 bites of ice cream. I eat whatever I want just in drastic moderation. I do eat the protein first. So if I'm having shrimp and spinach tortellini, I eat 4 to 5 shrimp and maybe two tortellini. I don't grab fast food because I know if I wait until I get home I'll get full within a few bites. Other things I eat often (again imagine I am eating the protein first) Turkey sausage with Beans and rice Beef stroganoff Pork chops Steak Omlettes with meats and veggies and cheese Tilapia with garlic and butter chicken usually in cream sauce. Spaghetti with meat sauce. lunch meats and sliced cheeses. I have a family of 6 at home and I'm the chef for them all. I just have to make smart choices for myself and separate the majority of the "empty" stuff. I don't deprive myself though. I have nibbled everything I've wanted to. I have overeaten a treat and I was puking for an hour. Lesson learned. Not too much exercise. Just started back to heated yoga!! I need to step that up. So what is your typical day? I track on my fitness pal and weigh everyday. I feel great about myself and my decisions I make every day. Message me if anyone wants to talk more. We are all just worthy being going through the transformation of our lives. Best to everyone.

    Already a failure

I'm just going to put it out there. I was just like you. I started Protein bars early out. I never had a problem with them. Never. I just stopped them last week at 4 & 1/2 months. I did nibble on many things and still do. I've tried everything (no alcohol -I don't drink). But sometimes I've been so frustrated feeling so blah I just want to feel comfortable. I haven't denied myself anything I do want. I've had popcorn at the movies, Halloween candy, rice Pasta, breads, casseroles and I've been ok. Not every meal and of course in small amounts. I don't feel like a failure, and I know others out there will respond shocked. If you want to talk more message me.
  18. Update for other low BMI, 4& 1/2 months out. Lost 40 pounds first 3 months. Stalled for 3 weeks and in the past few days dropped 3 pounds. I'm at 147.4 with 10 pounds to goal. If more comes off I'm happy. Still not working out like I should. But trying to up that. Cut out Protein bars to help with digestive discomfort a few days ago. I love this thread please keep posting.
  19. I will try that. Taking out the supplements. I can't eat very much still so I'll step up the food quality of my protein. I do track with my fitness pal so maybe that can shed some light on what I can eat to make my goals. Thanks. I've been stalled for 3 + weeks too. Not concerned for it, but it is what it is.
  20. I had a one week pre op diet of full liquid only and clear the day before. It was the shrinking of the liver issue. I was so excited to get to that point I didn't mind it at all. My husband even did the preOp with me. What a support to have someone going through the same along side me. And he fed the kids so I wasn't in the kitchen smelling the food I cooked for them. He was a blessing before and after. I did have a lower BMI and the surgeon told me that he actually had a hard time getting all of the instruments to fit!!!

    Advice needed- sleeved 10/21/14

I agree with everyone else but the most important thing I can say is keep drinking all day long. Even being able to drink normal I got dehydrated. My doctor pointed out the warning signs and I stepped up the fluids. You will read too many posts about sleevers having to go to the er to get fluids and sometimes hospitalized. The first few days my surgeon could have cared less about Protein or Vitamins. It was to stay hydrated.
  22. Jamburd1 You can read my earlier post. Sleeved June 17, started at 190 and today 149. No major issues, I just need to step up my exercise. My goal is anywhere in the 130's. You won't fail. Have faith and heal!!!!

    Tomorrow is pre-op...

The time will fly and before you know it you'll be sipping and walking and trying to remember several of the posts you've read having woken up a loser. My preOp was one week before surgery, but I wish I could have done it all at once. Make sure you are prepared for your stay and keep a positive attitude. Best to you on a speedy recovery and beautiful beginning to your new life.

    Calcium supplements

My doctor said Citrical petites plus D3 were acceptable. Available at Walgreens.
  25. crysclev. Congrats. I looked at my fitness pal and in one month. I guess 23 to 23 I have lost 4.4 pounds. scale hasn't moved since the 12th. And my hair is thinning like crazy. Ugh. I'll try what you suggest but omg when I increase I feel bloated. I do one shake one Protein bar I package of almonds plus whatever I eat. I know I'm getting protein in. What I need to do is get my ... In gear and start a true workout regimen.
