Too funny - I've just been thinking about this issue this week. I'm about 2 months out and still obsessed! I was trying to stick to a rule of not logging onto this site at work, but it's been slow this week and I've been checking all the time. Just yesterday I was asking myself what I'm (really) looking for, and couldn't really answer that.
Especially since I failed with the lap band I just have such anxiety about what this surgery will mean for me longterm. I've also been stalled for a week and a half (time of month, but still) so my anxiety is heightened. I think coming on here and seeing others' successes and frustrations just makes me feel more hopeful that I'll get past the bumps and find success too.
This is a life-changing surgery. But in most of my life everything is kind of normal, or at least I act as though it is. It's nice to immerse myself here where everyone is talking about the same topic.
When I was pre-op I yearned to just stay home and read this site all day long! It's gotten easier since then for me to focus at work, but still not back to normal. But we deserve to focus on ourselves for a bit!

I can totally relate, that's how I was months before my WLS! I was super focused, super excited and I looked forward to it like looking forward to an important event. The day of the WLS I wasn't nervous at all, I was excited and could not wait to get it done and looked forward to my future with happiness and anticipation. Well, now 3 and a half months out, 50 lbs LESS I know why I was so excited, because it IS! I love my new me, my new outlook in life, my new energy and not to mention new much small sizes in clothing (I went from a size 22 down now to a size 14)~~!!!
This forum is amazingly helpful and incredibly informative so keep on it, read more and more and stay away from the few negative ones -- stay positive and go for it! It's amazing and you're going to feel terrific and look gorgeous!
I've already talked two friends into WLS and they say I should be a spokesperson for it lol, I love it! Good Luck!!

Omg, I thought it was just me...
I feel like everything is in hold, I can think of nothing else, I'm reading on this forum and online alllllll the timeeeeee.
I should be finding out on Friday or Saturday if they approve my appeal. I'm like, sick to my stomach. I don't want to go anywhere, I don't want to do anything. I don't think about ANYTHING...but the sleeve. I've been watching my 600lb life. Watching the surgeries and forcing my husband to watch and even pausing the tv to say "look that will be me with all those thingys hanging out of my belly!!"
I feel like my life is on hold. I never felt like this before even when dieting and working out previously.
A friend I started this journey with had her sleeve this past Monday. I haven't spoken with her yet but I am stalking her husband for updates. I've just been pretty down waiting to hear back!!
At least now I know I'm not alone. Thank u for posting!

    Totally.
In a way it's a good thing, I think. But long term "we" need to be able to stick with this kind of commitment. Maybe not the same level of um...obsession, but totally committed to what it's about.
It's been hard not to only be about the surgery around anyone that knows. Trying to have a normal life around family, while my thoughts are else where. It will become normal, i'm sure.

I was also sleeved yesterday and it actually went better than expected. I'm having hardly any gas pain, but tons of pain on the incision site. Luckily the pain meds have been pretty helpful!
Wishing everyone who has been and who is getting sleeved this week!

for me, a lot of the problem with this obsession is that i've told very few people that i'm having wls. all they know is that i'm getting flaky lol. i mean, i AM a bit flaky, but not at work! now i do things like take full days off to go to a doctor appt, and take a lot of days off just cause i don't feel like going in.

The “no white foods” diet is still around. We encourage our bariatrics patients to give up white bread, white rice, white pasta or white potatoes. These foods typically raise blood sugars. However, cauliflower is not one of those white foods. One cup of raw cauliflower has 27 calories, 77 percent daily value for Vitamin C, 5 grams carbohydrate, 2.5 grams Fiber, 2 grams Protein and is a good source of potassium, folate, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients.
Cauliflower is a low glycemic food, which means is has very little carbohydrate to raise your blood sugars. Cauliflower is a member of the cruciferous vegetable group which also includes broccoli, cabbage, bok choy and Brussels sprouts. Cruciferous vegetables provide sulforaphane, a phytochemical linked to a decreased risk for cancer.
Instead of rice and potatoes as a side dish, think cauliflower. Whipped cauliflower as a side dish instead of potatoes has been around since the low-carb craze from a couple of decades ago. Here’s a quick recipe to try. You can make this recipe four weeks after surgery, when cooked vegetables are reintroduced to your diet.
Cauliflower “rice” is chopping this vegetable in a food processor or grating by hand to look like rice and then steaming it. Here is a recipe, which can be prepared in Phase 4 after surgery when fresh produce comes back in - four months after surgery.

    I'm 8 months post op, and I'm wearing a size 2!
I never thought I would be wearing a 2. Folding laundry is surreal--surely these tiny pants won't fit...but then they do. Everything fits, it's so easy (too easy) to find clothes. Feeling good!

I have a fantastic idea! Go to the complications support group forum on this site and read through the struggles others are facing. Maybe it'll help to get through this rough adjustment period and remember that you have done well, are free from complications, and will soon be able to progress your diet and reach your goals.

Good luck to all my fellow August Sleevers... Prayers for all. I'm scheduled for the 13th and I must say the 1st week of my 2 week pre op diet was truly a test.. No carbs, no sugars and I manage to stop drinking coffee. But I know I will be able to have a few amount of good carbs and maybe coffee again (it's the cream & sugar in the office that was doing me in). Anyway, I guess I will pull out my overnight bag :-). I won't know what time ta be at the hospital until they call me on Tuesday.. This has been one heck of a journey... The positive note is that with all the pre-op testing they didn't find any other major health issues (other than the ones I have now...HBP, sleep Apnea). I think the one thing that worries me is that I'm really anemic and hoping I don't have to have a transfusion. Oh well, at least I'll be in the hospital. I think I have a good start on the things I will need right away. I didn't want to go overboard on the Protein Shakes because I don't know if Ill even like the same flavors post surg. I don't like Jello, popcicles or pudding but I think I will pick up some SF versions today or tomorrow, just in case as I'll probably come to love them...lol Thank you all for all of the positive posts with info and experiences. Good to know we are definitely not alone!!

Hi Bobby. Congratulations on your surgery date. You are in for an experience for sure. First just let me say...I love my sleeve and would do it again if I had to. I have had many surgeries but they have all been different and the Sleeve surgery was also different but much like the gall bladder surgery as far as the pain. The first four days was pretty rough for me, I felt terrible as I always do after any anesthesia, and I kept saying to myself...What in the hell have I done to myself. But by the 5th day I was truly onboard with it. At first it is so difficult to swallow the Water and Soup but each day gets easier and easier. Its a process that just gets better and better. My daughter stayed with me most of the time and helped me get up and down and helped with my shower. I was too weak to do it on my own but as I said, the anesthesia always knocks me for a loop. I did not have the severe gas pains that others have mentioned on here but my daughter had me up and walking every 3 hours, no excuses. That I think made a big difference. I had all of my foods and meds ready at home so all I had to do was heat them up when I got home from the hospital. My husband helped a bit but he was against the surgery so I didn't want to be dependent on him. After I started losing weight and feeling good he jumped on board with this sleeve thing and he is now my biggest supporter. Everyone's experience is different but similar and complications, though real and possible, are very rare. The Best thing you can do for yourself is to follow your doctor's instructions. They really do know best and have a lot more experience at this than we do. I wish you well and hope you have a non-eventful surgery and an easy healing. Good luck and welcome to the world of Healthy and Happy.
