CathieT got a reaction from brendanolin34 in September 2014 Sleevers
This thread is for people who have their surgeries scheduled for the month of September 2014. To discuss successes and failures, surgery issues etc. My date is Monday September 15th, I thought it would be a good idea to have this thread so we could all support each other over the next couple of months..

I'm also scheduled for Monday September 15, 2014! .. like you, I am both excited and scared at the same time! I'm in the Rochester NY area.. I will be having my surgery at Highland Hospital by Dr. Lael Forbes. I have to still go for me pre-surgery screening.. (not sure what happens at that) .. but I call to make the appointment tomorrow! Good luck to you!

Hi! I'm so excited! I finally got my surgery date and it's set for September 15th. I start the pre-op liquid diet on the 2nd. Parts of me are scared and other parts of me are excited. Anyone else out there getting sleeved on that day or around it? BTW, I'm in Illinois and using Silver Cross Hospital. Thanks. And GOOD LUCK to everyone!

Hello all who have decided to do something wonderful for ourselves in the middle point of our lives. My reasons for doing this are multiple, first off my older daughter and my first husband had the procedure done last year by Dr. Almanza and I have seen first hand the wonderful results it accomplished for my daughter and how much happier she is, secondly my husband and I are doing this together on June 26th with Dr. Almanza. My husband who is a wonderful man has multiple medical issues, hypertension, diabetes, and sleep apnea with multiple medications that have caused us to no longer have a sex life, this is his main motivational desire to have this surgery along with the great hope that all his medical problems will soon be a past memory. I on the other hand am overweight at 210, but have no medical complications other than occasional pain to my left knee which already had a torn meniscus in 2005. I'm looking forward to this surgery to support my husband and our new life together, as I will soon be retired from the fire department and want to travel this great country we live in and want to enjoy it with good health and energy and also to be able to take care of my youngest son who is autistic, I want to be around for along time so that he can enjoy the life he has been accustom to.

Hi! I have 23 days left until my surgery. My back always hurts and my left knee hurts too. I have 3 beautiful granddaughters (and one more granddaughter to arrive late July). I want to be able to run and play with the 4 girls. I'm feeling 85 instead of 55. I wish I could have done this 10 years ago. Can't wait until June 14!

I have diabetes and high cholesterol, i heard the sleeve will assist these diseases to go away. I have knee pain and have a hard time walking. I used to run every where. I just hope this will help me. I have a hard time due to the fact that i also had double hernia surgical repair at the same time as my sleeve.

Like you said Eileen I too had no real interest in changing my outward appearance at this point of my life. I had my reasons though......
We decided at age 51 to try to have a child with the help of all of the new medical technologies avavilable now. My wife said if it works I could retire as she knew I had always wanted to have kids and had long ago tired of my job. Well, it worked and she gave birth to twins in Jan 2009. I retired and took care of the kids, 24/7, diapers, feedings, cooking, cleaning etc....330 pounds and my weak knees were giving out. High BP, High Chol and became diabetic. March 2011 Doc suggested Bariatric Surgery and Sept 2011 it was done. 120 ponds lost and I have never felt better and have all of the energy and wherewithall to stay one step ahead of the kids and manage everything at home. It has allowed me to have the best of both worlds, the energ & strength I had in my mid 30'5 along with the financial independence, maturity and patience I now possess as a 54 year old man. The change in apperance is secondary but that too is great and I guess I am like anybody else love hearing that you look good.
I think us 50+ sleevers are unique in that we care far much more about health then looks whether we are single married or otherwtse!
My situation is very unique but I can't believe everything has worked out so well. By the way, I am no longer considered Diabetic and my HBP and High Chol are under control. My knees are so much better too, but still require daily exercise for strengthening which obviously also helps the weight loss and overall mental health!
