I'm going to be banded on June 10th!

Uugghhh... 9 days, please NO... How painful! I am definitely feeling hungry now so I am getting pains from being hungry. Also having trouble being able to take the pain meds because I have absolutely nothing solid on my stomach. What did you all do in order to take the pain meds when you weren't able to eat anything? They make me feel sick to my stomach but I need them.
  2. I am scheduled to have my Lap-Band placed this Friday, June 20, 2014. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I have been planning for and saving for this for so long and now it is finally here. I believe I am mentally prepared for all of the habit changes but I am nervous about whether I AM actually ready. Today I am three days pre-op so I started my liquid diet and I am already starving. Wish me luck!

I'm going to be banded on June 10th!

Yay... lucky Junebug 36 that you get mushies! I have 5 more days until I move to full liquids. I am pretty tired of liquids although I don't really feel hungry, just tired of drinking the same old, same old. It will be nice to add the variety of applesauce and yogurt and cottage cheese and stuff. I seem to get more 'full' drinking my Protein shake in the AM so and I drink 1/2 and then wait to drink the other 1/2. For my afternoon shake, as long as I drink slow, I can drink the whole 11 ozs. This is not a feeling I am used to (feeling satisfied and able to stop eating/drinking when I am satisfied) and I am loving it. I am only 3 days post-op so I am still struggling with the C02 gas pains but every day it is getting better. So far I have no regrets.

I am going to be banded June 20th

So I got my band on Friday the 20th. Went in at 7AM to prepare and my surgery was at 10:45AM. It took only 40 minutes and everything was a success. I did have nausea after I woke up and I had some pain but I never did throw up and the pain was tolerable with the pain meds. I went home at 12:45PM. I am now on my 3rd day post-op and I am sore. I am having more pain from the C02 gas they used to inflate my stomach for the procedure. I am walking and using heat as many other member have suggested and I am shifting around to different sides to move the gas from one side to the other but it still hurts like crazy. I am still on the liquid diet and I am able to drink so I am able to stay hydrated which is a good thing. Lots of ice chips and Water. I do notice I am full when I drink 1/2 my Premier Fitness Protein shake so I have to nurse it down over time. Right now I can't tell if the pain I am having in my abdomen is still from the gas or if they are hunger pains. Either way, I can't wait for 5 more days to pass so I can move to full liquids and have something besides Fluid. I am not necessarily 'hungry' but my stomach definitely feels empty. It is Monday and I am back at work so I am doing very well. So far it is what I expected and I am pleased.

I'm going to be banded on June 10th!

I am glad to see you are doing good. I am scheduled for this Friday, June 20th and I am already getting nervous. I started my liquid diet I am supposed to start 3 days pre-op and I am starving already. I sure hope everything goes well for me too. I realize you haven't been banded for long but so far, is it what you expected it to be like?
  7. Hello Everyone! I am a 45 year old mother of 2 teenage daughters who has been married now for 19 years. I have been overweight the majority of my life but back in the day they just called it 'Big Boned'. I started my first serious attempt to lose weight at the age of 18 by attending Weight Watchers meetings. When I started I must have weighed around 195 lbs and I managed to lose 40 lbs but even at that weight I was just shy of what they considered to be the HIGH end of my ideal, Lifetime Goal weight. I never could get off the last 5 lbs so I ended up quitting without making "Lifetime" status. Since then I have been on a roller coaster of ups and downs with regard to weight loss and maintenance. I have tried the Grapefruit Diet, the Atkins Diet (lost 50 lbs and kept it off for almost 2 years), the South Beach Diet, the DASH Diet, the Fast Metabolism Diet, Weight Watchers and various other Low-Fat diets and Low-Calorie diets (as well as many others I'm sure I have long since forgotten about). My highest weight was 250 in 2006. In 2007 I joined Weight Watchers again and over the course of a year I managed to lose 75 lbs and reach my "Lifetime Goal' weight of 160 lbs. I had never felt better but I was always hungry. The only way I was not thinking about being hungry was when I was working out. I also had to work out at least 6-7 days per week for more than 1 hour per day in order to maintain that weight. I spent thousands of dollars on Personal Trainers and fitness classes. In addition, I was running 5Ks, 7Ks & 10ks but always still pre-occupied with the feeling of being hungry. At some point I became depressed at how hard I was having to work to keep the weight off and about how much time I was missing with my girls during their pre-teen years that I cut back on exercising. Needless to say the more I cut back, the more my weight creeped back up. I managed to keep that weight off for the better part of 2 years but eventually gained it all back. Now I am in my 40s and I can't lose weight no matter what I seem to do. I have had enough with the struggling and the hunger and now I am having knee and back pain and also found out I am pre-diabetic. I began my research on surgical solutions about a year ago and have decided to go with the Lap Band. While my insurance company does cover bariatric surgeries, my employers specifically excluded the benefit from our policy so I am having to pay for the surgery all on my own. I am having the procedure performed by Dr. Darin Minkin of True Results in St. Louis. I am currently back up to 230 lbs. I just completed all of my pre-op medical tests (EKG, bloodwork, chest x-rays, etc) and just scheduled my Pre-Op appointment for next Friday, June 13, 2014. My surgery date is scheduled for Friday, June 20, 2014. I know the Lap Band is not the END ALL, BE ALL cure but I believe it is just the 'Tool' I need in order to get me where I want to go. I am nervous but excited. Dr Minkin has very good reviews by members of this site which helps to put me more at ease. Next Friday cannot get here quick enough. I am so ready to move forward. I am so happy to have found this site as I know from personal experience with Weight Watchers, support is a must. I will be looking for all the support I can get and when I reach my goal weight of 150-155 I will be eager to offer all the support I can based on my experience. I can't wait to meet new people and find out what works for you and what doesn't. Thanks for taking the time to read about my journey.
