Because I don't think I fully understood the consequences. I had a hard recovery and I can't get used to the pain that comes from just trying to eat anything other than shakes or liquids. I'm just afraid of living this way the rest of my life....I know it has to get better, but right now I just don't see the light. I am losing weight - I've lost 30 pounds since my surgery on Nov 20th, but I d take it back if I could. I think this has just gotten me really depressed, which is another thing I wasn't expecting. :-(
I'll be going to a therapist next week, nutritionist and doctor follow ups as well.
I just can't make myself be happy about this now. I have so much regret I cry a lot.
Please pray for me, I'm really struggling emotionally ans physically. :-(

    congrats on losing 30 lbs
many people do get cold feet a few weeks before surgery
    you are not alone
    some do cancel/post-pone surgery
some people end up rescheduling and are happy they had the surgery
support or no support, you must feel ready/confident to go ahead with surgery
it can be harder not having anyone at "your back"
but people are still able to have surgery and continue on their own
remember the door is always open to come back and try again with surgery
we will be here today, tomorrow and...................
    good luck
    kathy
    happy new years

My date is January 5th also. Started my pre-op liquid diet on Sunday the 21st. I'm doing pretty good with it. It gets easier as the days go by. Good luck to you!

I bought my Fitbit about 10 days ago. I was using My fitness pal religiously since surgery and I wanted to two to link. I love it! I am so happy that I bought the charge, I now find myself looking for new ways to meet my goals everyday. It's alot of fun!

I'd agree with that. You can minimize your risk further by researching and finding the very best surgeon you can get. Not all surgeons are created equal by any means. (I'd also look for a hospital that is recognized as a bariatric center of excellence.)

My suggestion is seduce her. Start flirting, complimenting and noticing openly the changes she is going through. Tell her how fine she looks and how hot she is. Act like a single man trying to win her. Don't use the same "married terms" you look so pretty, use the street terms "your hot" "sexy" and others.
    Its just my opinion.

My surgeon was also Dr. Guske. I also went to St. Alexius. Wonderful surgeon. Great facility. I've had several surgeries there. The Kane Center is also a Bariatric Center of Excellence. For BC/BS of IL they are a fast track center.

Just an added note, be aware that later in the day after you do injections, you may have a small bruise at the injection site--this is normal from all I experienced. If you have severe bruising though, make sure you contact the doctor about the dosage of the Lovenox (be sure to read the side effects sheet that comes with the medication). I didn't have any problems, but it is something to be aware of. Not meant to scare you, but something you should acquaint yourself with. Each person is different. The doctor does lab work prior to your surgery to see where you're at with your blood levels, etc.
As I said before, I didn't experience any pain with the shots nor any excessive bruising. It is a blood thinner, so naturally you will bruise easier like as if you were on an aspirin regimen before surgery--thus it helps prevent blood clots.
The small bruises are short-lived ones and are usually gone within a week or two. Actually the little bruises helped me measure where to give myself the successive injections over the 7-day period.
The shots are what is known as subcutaneous (just under the skin), and not an intramuscular injection (into muscles) shot, which makes it way less bothersome.

It's not as hard as it sounds. When I had to give myself Lovenox injections, both last year (following ankle surgery), and after my gastric sleeve surgery, it was no big deal at all. The injections (with my pharmacy anyway) were prefilled syringes. All I had to do was use an alcohol wipe (those little square packages) where I was going to stick myself with the needle. I would pinch (not hard) a bit of the fatty tissue to the right and left of my navel (you want to alternate sides each day) and stick, then press the plunger on top of the syringe. They are very small needles and not painful at all. The medicine tends to burn a little going in, and you shouldn't rub the area after the injection.
A nurse showed me how to do these injections after my ankle surgery last year, and a nurse can show you how it's done or your facility may have a video tape presentation of the procedure. It is very simple and very painless.

I actually felt more reassured after reading the threads. I feel like I have a good idea of the risks, the behaviors that will set me up for success and how to deal with the inevitable stalls/slow downs. For me, I have to weigh the possible complications (which are statistically small) with the almost certain diabetes, knee replacements and so on that are in my future if I don't get the weight off. Having said that, if you need to meet with the surgeon and then take more time to make your decision...please take it! You have to be sure for yourself.

Okay, here's one guy's perspective... I'd prefer to know what to expect beforehand. The surprises hidden under our clothes could "spoil the moment" if they are not expected. Besides, if you're anticipating intimacy, perhaps you can work this into "the talk" you probably want to have anyway. STDs and protection are not comfortable subjects to discuss, but we still need to have the conversation, right? So why not roll this into that already not-so-sexy pre-intimacy convo? If he's still on board, great! And if not, then you may have learned something about him while limiting your vulnerability. I wish you the best of luck -- hopefully he's a keeper!

Not to roll out the cliches but when you're dealing with this many people, the best thing to remember is that bit about how you can't change people, you can only change how you react to them. If you approach a forum knowing that you're going to encounter a vast variety of people from different backgrounds, with different experiences, with different ways of communicating, you can learn how to scan for the bits of advice that are helpful, ignore the ones that aren't, roll your eyes at people who deserve it and get the best out of this resource without having to feel negatively about it.

I've been on this forum since before my surgery in April. I read A LOT of posts and find that many, definitely not all, of the regular posters are quite judgemental. We each walk our own journey, in relationships, religion, and weight loss. No one has the right to tell another their way is the best or only way and that one shouldn't eat a certain way. I've frequently been left with a bad taste in my mouth by something someone said, because let's face it...posting here is leaving oneself quite vulnerable. I truly feel for those with no support system who are looking for guidance and get scolded. I ask you please, if you don't have something nice to say, stay quiet.
