I wish that I had known about plication before my band was installed, I'd have pushed for it. It would be nice to have that bit of extra help. My band rocks, it may have rocked a bit harder with the plication.
If you feel good about the plication and have researched it and feel it will work well for you along with your band, go for it! Why not?

Holy sh*t! I just noticed that my BMI is now below 50! Do you know how long it has been since I have had a BMI under 50?

Wow I was never told of that option. Might have done that. I can't say now. I'm glad I had the surgery though. Feeling better everyday. Taking the kiddos to a waterpark tom. I'm going get in a lounge chair and soak up some sun. Best of luck with the choice you make!

DONE!!! I am officially banded!! Feeling good. Throat is REALLY sore but it's my only complaint. I have 3 incisions and they don't look bad at all. Not sure exactly where my port is yet. They have a local anesthetic over the area still I can't really feel anything. HOMEWARD BOUND!! YaaaaaaY!!!

I have the good old Allergan AP Lap Band and my port is in my abdomen. Above my navel, a little to the left.
Funny mini NSV, I have lost 60 pounds and now, if the waistband of my pants is over my port, it is uncomfortable. And, I was FINALLY able to feel the damned thing with my fingers, where before, I couldn't.

A repost and my apologies if it's too descriptive:
So I'm sorry to be too graphic here but remember, someone filled your body cavity full of gas, they pumped fluids, medications, antibiotics and anesthesia into your body. They punched 5 holes in your abdomen, moved all your inner body parts around, shoved a tube down your throat, took an electric scalpel and burned away excess fat and tissue wrapped around your upper stomach, then wrapped a plastic strap around your stomach just below the lower esophogeal sphincter, stitched it in place with 5-6 sutures bringing your lower stomach up and over the band and then snaked a tube out of your body and sewed another plastic piece to the muscle tissue on your rib cage.
Now, thinking about all that has been done to your body, you're doing quite well aren't you?

Well... here I am - on the eve of everything I've been thinking about for the last 4 months (6 years and 4 months). Reading through the site has given me a great deal of steadiness. I have to speak power and success into this process... not fear. So I'm glad to have you all to mentally lean on while I walk down this path.
The surgery is at 7:30 AM and we have to report at 5:30AM and the hospital is about an hour away. So we'll be leaving the house at 4 AM. Because of that we set the baby up to get some sleep with Grandma downstairs so that she didn't feel the shift of having to go down there at 4AM.
My mother in law who is an old school West Indian woman ( just like my mom was ) said ... "is this absolutely necessary?" And I know what she was saying. In our cultures... will power is supposed to prevail and you're supposed to win that way. And I said to her, "If I'd like to live longer than my mom did and avoid the same pitfalls and tack on a few more years to this life for that little girl right there... then YES. It is absolutely necessary - because nothing else worked yet." And she was actually satisfied with that response (which I was surprised about).
I'm gonna go lay my head down for a few hours before we make the trek to the future! Here's to dreams of success!
... And to all a Good Night!

I hope your band surgery goes as smoothly as mine did. Surgery at 7 am, home by 11:30 am. I was a little tired and sore the 1st 2 days, then much better on the 3rd. ( Dont forget to take into the hospital a BIG bottle of Water and a chapstick, for cottonmouth. ) From there on out, it was very easy! Hope all goes well for you !

Hi everyone, I'm so happy that I found this app! My surgery is on the 23rd and I start my pre-op diet today. I'm sooo nervous but excited that I'm finally doing this. I don't want to fail, so any advice to survive these two weeks will be greatly appreciated. (I'm going to take my Protein now... Hope I don't starve later) ????

Lite'N'Sweet reacted to Lady VS in Question I received Yesterday
Okay so yesterday was President's Day and we had a workshop to attend. So my meeting was with other fourth and fifth grade teachers. So I ran into one of my old coworkers that used to work at my school. She hadn't seen me since I had my surgery over three years ago. She: "Wow! You've lost a lot of weight." Me: "Yes I did. 90 pounds." She: "What did you do?" Me: "I had surgery." (all excited and smiling) She: "You needed surgery for that?????" Okay so I felt like crap then said, "Yes, I had too much fat around my heart. It was a life or death situation. My doctor asked me if I want to live or die. So I decided to live." Then, I walked away politely by saying excuse me. This is the first time I felt well, I don't know how I feel. Maybe a little hurt. I wasn't expecting that reaction from her. She isn't small herself. I"m just venting here because I am still annoyed by it. I know I shouldn't be, but I am nonetheless.
