I drink one or two a day depending on how my Protein intake from solid Proteins is going for the day. I have to get at least 80 grams a day. I have one for Breakfast every day and in the evening if I need it, I will have another. If I'm only a little under I will use sugar free Carnation instant breakfast packet with 8 oz skim milk. Good luck!

I had been having one daily, as a Breakfast replacement. I will likely be swapping to all-food after today, however, since I had a very bad reaction to the shake I was drinking (most of them are too overwhelmingly sweet for me to tolerate)
My NUT and doctor both prefer going to mostly foods at this point anyway (I just hit soft food stage).

I will be 6 weeks post op on Monday & I have 1/2 of a Premier Protein shake every morning. Unfortunately I can only drink 1/2 of one because they are 11 oz & my new tummy won't hold any more. I drink the other 1/2 sometime during the day so I'm at least getting 30 gm of Protein from that. At the end of the day if my protein grams aren't up to 60 I will drink another shake or Unjury's chicken Soup or a small shake from powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury or Syntrac nectar to bring my gram count up. I see my doctor next week & hopefully I will be able to eat "real" food such as chicken & fish. This should help with my protein grams. I know someone who had the sleeve surgery 3 years ago & she still drinks 2 or 3 shakes a day. She said it has made a difference in her skin elasticity. She looks really good so maybe she's on to something. I hope this helps with your question.

6 months out today. I have one large Protein Drink everyday (24-32 oz, 30-40g protein) and drink 1/2 in the am and 1/2 in the PM. I don't measure or track anything else, so I know I've got a good start on fluids and Protein with just this one thing. At this point I'm eating every 3 hours but my restriction is so good I can't eat enough real food to meet protein goals. (I know I said I don't track, but I've tallied my totals for a "typical day" and see my protein isn't even close without the supplement). Besides, I love my yummy shakes and have no intention of giving them up!

I've been having a hard time with people saying to me, "Now that you are skinny, you don't want to talk to us any more." What? Are they serious? The only thing that has changed about me is my body. I'm still the same kind hearted person that I have always been. It amazes me that everyone is making a big deal about this.

Compliments are great - obsession is not. I suggest some of your colleagues don't have enough to do. And yes, wanting to take even a single photo of your butt is "off", let alone a series to show the changes. Your VP needs to know that too.
I am assuming mostly women are making these comments. Perhaps point out how creepy - and inappropriate - it would be if men were to make the same comments.
And a few loud reminders that you want them to be amazed by your brain, wit, persistence, creativity etc, might help to rein them in a bit.
    Good luck.

It is sad but I have been heavy all my life and I think I am cautious and non-adventurous. Is it who I am or because of my weight? I don't honestly know. I have never wanted to zip line. I hate roller coasters. As I am losing weight I do see myself sort of coming out of a shell but I don't know where this is leading. I guess it is all good. On my bucket list I am listing experiencing a catamaran trip. I want to sit on that and watch the Water go by and be comfortable about who I am and what I am wearing, and not be scared. Big time sharing for me.

My number one rule is every snack should have Protein. Seems from reading here everyone is doing that too. We are all so smart!

I definitely have a snack in the morning, especially after a workout. I will eat yogurt, low fat string cheese, some deli meat... anything to keep my glucose levels up or I get really hungry!

I normally pick carbmasters (from krogers) yogurt or cottage cheese. i tend to eat 6 small meals thro the day - all snack sized, but these are what i consider something fast to snack on instead of "making" something.

I have Quest Protein Bars or sugar free Popsicles.
The Quest have 20 or 21 grams of Protein in them and they are made with Stevia.
I buy the sugar free Bomb Pop Popsicles.
Sometimes I might have some almonds.

Yes I have a snack every afternoon and evening - my favorites are yoghurt, fresh fruit, hummus with vegetables and almonds (found some vanilla flavored ones!) Be careful though - I'm 4 months out and I couldn't have fruit, raw vegetables or nuts for the first 3 months. Early on yoghurt is good, mashed banana, sugar-free pudding, canned fruit pureed or mashed, apple sauce etc - don't know what stage you're at. My doc told me to have 5-6 small meals a day (3 "meals" and 2 or 3 "snacks") and to eat a small amount every 2-3 hours so I think Snacks are important.

I eat string cheese, yogurt (i have that for Breakfast and also for a snack when needed), cottage cheese, nuts, sugar free pudding, tbsp Peanut Butter, tbsp low fat cream cheese, laughing cow cheese...for some reason, cheese goes down easily for me. I have started to eat blueberries and have had watermelon in the past which I love. Apples I struggle with but I peel the skin off and then eat them. I cant seem to eat salads..it hurts a lot. I am 12 weeks out...3 months out. So I am still struggling with food. Oh I also have Protein shakes for my snack too. I also eat 5-6 small portions through out the date. Cant seem to eat denser meals.

Sparklingbeauty53 reacted to terry1118 in Dumping vs. Foods Disagreeing
Dumping happens when sugar and or simple carbs reach your intestine at an area unused to it (due to being bypassed in RNY). Your body's reaction to this is to send Fluid quickly to your intestines resulting in abdominal pain/cramping, cold sweats, light-headedness, shaking, and severe diarrhea. It can happen a little while after a meal (my first/only dumping experience happened a few weeks ago and was about thirty minutes after eating) and can last hours (I spent a long painful miserable hour on the toilet, followed by another hour/hour and a half of shaking and severe weakness). You can avoid dumping by avoiding sugar, foods containing over 10gr of sugar, simple carbs (almost anything white - bread, rice, pasta). If you follow your teams instructions and read food labels this won't happen often, if at all.
food getting stuck/eating too fast/eating too much causes food to back up. This is very common and can happen very frequently. Your body's response to this is to create bubbly saliva to try to ease the problem. The saliva builds up and either does help or causes severe nausea resulting in vomiting, which also solves the problem. Taking small bites, chewing thoroughly, and eating slowly can help prevent this. chicken or other poultry can be very dry, as is pork, and many people can't tolerate these foods (I'm over one year out and have never been able to keep chicken or turkey down). Each individual may have foods they can't tolerate but others can. It's trial and error.

From what I've learned, dumping can be a combination of any or all of the symptoms you described. I haven't experienced dumping, but have had foods not like me very much. chicken breast, for example, made me queasy (I wished I could have thrown up and got rid of it!). If I eat something that makes me queasy, the feeling usually goes away pretty quickly if I get up and walk around for a while. Some people have said that when they experience dumping, the symptoms can last for hours and hours. I hope to never go through that!

Sparklingbeauty53 got a reaction from Wayne Hunt in Am I supposed to eat when I'm not hungry?
Here is my 2 cents on this. You must eat. If you are not hungry you still need to eat. This is a tool and they work when you listen and do what you are susposed to. Eat every couple of hours. Your stomach can only hold about 3 ounces at a time so little amounts here and there are best. If you don't eat then you don't process nutrients and the body takes from your resources ie Calcium from your bones, etc so it gets what it needs when it wants it. Spice up your shakes with sugar free syrups-that what I do to change out the flavors. I ordered 8 flavors from Torani and depending on my mood depends on the flavor of the time. Easy and different. This is a new lifestyle for you and not really a diet per se so the NUTs don't stress calories as much as they state Protein first, veggies next and if room then carbs. Stick to that and you won't over eat. This is how you help your tool. Analize your exercise routine and make charts and send them to me to get me on an exercise kick. i could use the help!
I know someone who did not eat because she was not hungry and she felt nauseous. She ended up in the e/r thinking she was dehydrated but instead was told she was malnurished. Don't rock the system-it works and let it work for you! She was yelled at and told she almost killed herself. Yikes! Hang in there Wayne!
