don't forget to add unflavored Protein powder to some of your vege. dishes. meat is a hard one even for some bandsters. if my meat isn't cooked raw I can just forget it. and no left overs of any kind.

I am 1 year post-op from RNY bariatric surgery. I found that my body tolerates high Protein chili and Soups well. I put several recipes (beef, chicken, sea food) in the article I wrote titled "How I Survived Bariatric Surgery" which is available at

My favorite vegetarian recipes are Indian. I recommend you get an Indian cookbook, write down the spices used most often & go to an Indian ethnic market. The spices are sold by the bag; just store them in a container that closes tightly and away from the light. Don't forget the fresh cilantro-- makes a huge difference! Have fun!

Today, for the first time in years, I went shopping. At the mall. For clothes. For myself! It felt amazing to be able to fit into clothing that is sold locally and not have to order it online like a hermit. I tried on clothes, not circus tents, actual clothes! And I bought stuff, not just because it fit and I had no choice, but because I actually LIKED the way it looked. I know it's still early, but this is great motivation for me. I can't wait to see all the changes that are to come.

Shopping is amazing now, not a dreaded task! I'm 10 months post-op, 120 lbs down and finally fitting into a size 12. Still have 40lbs to go until I teach my goal but I feel amazing.

Top Secret Shhhh! Don't tell a soul. It is no one's business but mine. It is on a need to know basis. Period. I don't talk about my weight and you don't talk to me about it either. It is forbidden. I'll share my age before my weight, wait, no I won't share my weight with anyone for any reason. That was me. That was me for 53 years.
Then one day I decided to have RNY to help myself get healthy. Bottling in my weight amount(keeping a secret), getting bigger and bigger every year, having more and more heath problems each and every year, keeping my weight a secret was really a farce. One look at me and you knew I was an unhealthy over 200 pound mess! It wasn't a secret!
Having RNY has been the best blessing I could ask for. It has helped me take charge of my life, lifestyle and health. I will shout it from the rafters now. I am neither ashamed nor fearful of what anyone thinks because it doesn't matter. What matters is what I feel and think about it now.
I am so proud of my bravery for doing it. I am so proud to say my health in just a few months is already brighter and better. I am proud to say I am morbidly obese but I am doing something about it because it is and always has been all about me! Last year at this time I couldn't even talk about it.
Bottom line- it is a personal thing and the way you handle it is the right way. It is your way!

I had RNY in March and I made a journal of these type of thoughts, feelings, pictures of outfits I looked forward to, thoughts and reflections, etc. It is fun to go to whenever I need it or want.
Big for me was I want to not be an obstacle people move around.
I want to express my classic style in clothes that fit-not what is available in my size.
I want to feel good in my own skin.
    Hope.
Now that I am 39 pounds lighter I do feel HOPE and it is amazing! I cleaned out my closet and clothes were too big and lots fit, and looked great. HOPE! It is amazing. HOPEFUL FOR THE FUTURE!
    No meds for diabetes! HOPE!
I now want to be in pictures! Imagine that!

Pdxman's information aligns closest to what I have been told, have read about and share with others.
    More concretely, for active people,
Men: 25-30 g for most meals. 40 g is optimal following a hard workout.
Women: 15-20g for most meals. 30 g is optimal following a hard workout.
High quality casein Protein (slow burning) at night before bed provides aminos in the blood stream all night long. This really helps with fat burning and Protein synthesis.
High quality whey (fast burning) is best when waking and after a workout. A matrix protein works best for other meals.

I was told early on that 15-20 grams of Protein per meal was advised, just as mentioned, and I have tried to stick with that. I do start my day with a homemade Protein shake that is usually in the 25-30 gram range. I find that I like starting the day with a good amount of protein and it usually keeps me satisfied for 3-4 hours. It also allows me to meet my daily protein goal of 80-90 grams with 3 meals and two Snacks.
I have read that the key to long term success is being able to maintain the feeling of satiety for as long as possible during meal time. It would be interesting to see how the protein absorption rates relate to the feeling of fullness. That could give some good guidance on amounts of protein to eat and how often.

So we need how much Protein each day right after surgery? 60 grams? I will need to do the math to ensure I drink steady and slowly and still get In The required protein amounts.... In between my sips to get in my 64 oz of Water. Yup drink that slowly too! Will I be able to keep track of all this?! :-). I am determined to follow plan and do this right. This sleeve is going to be a great tool, but I gotta make sure I follow plan. It is up to me to do this right. It is not just going to happen just cuz I had surgery.

I do the same thing. I drink 1 Protein shake in the morning but it is split up several hours apart from each other. I drink the chocolate Premier Protein drinks. I love them in my coffee! I take 1 cup of coffee and and half of the drink along with some caramel macchiato sugar free Creamer to it and it is really really good! It replaces the need for sweets every time!

Ugh. Just one more thing to worry about. Lol. I was just talking to my hubby about this. He said about 20g-25g per hour. So even though I'm not meeting my daily Protein goals, it seems I'm meeting my hourly Protein goals.

Great information. Also make sure you are using a high quality source of Protein.
If you are taking 2 hours to consume the 40 grams then you are still likely using most of the Protein. Protein slows the digestive process, so it stays in your intestine longer.
