  1. I am a newbie so I can't help you but I am glad you are here and maybe someone here can help you out! Nash is scary and is what killed my mother so my prayers go out to you. That is serious! I hope your doctors/therapists can consult with WLS and find a program for you! Good luck!
  2. I had RNY for one reason and one reason only: to get healthy. At 53 my health was severely compromised. I had uncontrolled type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, sleep apnea, PCOS, anxiety, panic, depression and recently battled Guillane-Barre Disease(also called GBS). I am still struggling with the Guillane-Barre but I am doing so well I hardly count it. I couldn't walk or talk when I was full blown with it so now I am much better. I was on 5 medicines for diabetes including insulin and my Endocrinologist suggested RNY. After much thought, prayer and research I decided it was the right thing for me. I applied to insurance and after 6 months of doctor visits and NUT visits I was cleared. My rebirth date was March 3, 2014. Now the journey begins...I healed small so I have had 2 anastomotic strictures and resulting out patient procedures to fix. I am hoping that is all I will need. Ironically, I am a GBS woman times 2!
  3. Top Secret Shhhh! Don't tell a soul. It is no one's business but mine. It is on a need to know basis. Period. I don't talk about my weight and you don't talk to me about it either. It is forbidden. I'll share my age before my weight, wait, no I won't share my weight with anyone for any reason. That was me. That was me for 53 years. Then one day I decided to have RNY to help myself get healthy. Bottling in my weight amount(keeping a secret), getting bigger and bigger every year, having more and more heath problems each and every year, keeping my weight a secret was really a farce. One look at me and you knew I was an unhealthy over 200 pound mess! It wasn't a secret! Having RNY has been the best blessing I could ask for. It has helped me take charge of my life, lifestyle and health. I will shout it from the rafters now. I am neither ashamed nor fearful of what anyone thinks because it doesn't matter. What matters is what I feel and think about it now. I am so proud of my bravery for doing it. I am so proud to say my health in just a few months is already brighter and better. I am proud to say I am morbidly obese but I am doing something about it because it is and always has been all about me! Last year at this time I couldn't even talk about it. Bottom line- it is a personal thing and the way you handle it is the right way. It is your way!
  4. Ok, I listened to your recording. It struck me so, so funny because that is it! I have those sounds too and in fact, I had mine going while yours was going which caused me to go into a full-blown laugh out loud experience. I had RNY. When and if any one gets info on this I am all ears! (pun intended!)
  5. I thought I wasn't old enough to wrinkle, haha turns out I was just fat!
  6. From watching my 600 pound life on tv I decided two things. I would update the bra when needed so the girls always look perky and it would make me look better overall in all my clothes and I would buy clothes at second hand shops along the way to make me feel better and to avoid chaffing from old big clothes. Now I am paying medical bills and that is even more important to me so I can afford clothes. I never had luck in second hand shops as a larger person so maybe as a smaller person this will be better. It is good to just shop from my closet right now! I believe we need to feel good along the way...so a few bucks for a bra is worth it. I am deflating...
  7. All good advice here! I started an art journal with thoughts, phrases, pictures of skinny looks I liked, bathing suits I liked, comments about what I was looking forward to, measurements, etc. it got me really pysched and it was a great release of energy and thoughts. I also tried tons of Protein drinks and learned what I liked or didn't like. My tastes for Protein shakes is specific and I don't like most so it is good to try samples or singles only. Enjoy the journey!
  8. I am with all of you. i hear noises and feel them too. Not all of the time but lots of times. Sometimes other people can hear it. I just figure it is normal. I notice it a lot when I eat and then I stop because if I don't, I overeat. I think it is our pouches telling us they are working?!
  9. I knew in my heart this was the right thing to do for my health and today I received concrete evidence. My diabetes is normal. I was on 5 medicines including insulin before surgery. My liver enzymes are normal. I did have fatty liver evidence. My other blood tests were normal except for my cholesterol which I will accept. I am just thrilled and it is just the beginning for me! My surgery was 3/3 and I am seeing results. I can now say I am healthy and it feels great! Thank you RNY and thank you to God for this opportunity!
  10. I am sorry you are losing a friend in your opinion but she seems to be more of a zealot; not a friend. Your loss is our gain, come be our friend here. We are much less judgmental and we see it your way-getting healthier! If it was plastic surgery it wouldn't be covered by health insurance. Her ignorance shows. I'd count whatever she weighs as part of your weight loss! With friends like her you don't need enemies.
  11. Some surgeons have the patient lose weight preop. Mine did not. My rny was 3/3/14. How is everyone doing?
  12. Hot stuff! Congratulations!
  13. What a gift to yourself! You are using the tool and applying the correct rules to make the tool work. You rock!
  14. James- Thank you for this most informative read. Very honest and succinct. Amazing photo, recipes and tips. Everyone should take the time to read this and reap the benefits. I can't have beef for another 3 months according to my doctor but I am trying the chili recipe as soon as I can!
  15. The Torani Syrups are the best. I love the coconut one. I add it to all my shakes and love it. Do try them as they add a whole world of flavors to your protein!
  16. I struggle with white meat chicken. I chew and chew until it is like sawdust and it still comes back up.
  17. Ginger Snaps I want to wear Ann Taylor and Talbots, oh and Brooks Brothers...
  18. Thank you guys! I know you get how it feels and I have just started my journey. It was such a cool moment!
  19. What a great story! You must be so proud of who you have become! Maintaining it as well is even greater. May your journey continue to be a success and may all your new dreams be fulfilled.
  20. I am with you! I am just starting to feel the wonderfulness of being thinner, being full and seeing reactions from friends and family. I went away to my nephew's graduation and many of the family members were shocked and complimented me on my weight loss, how I looked, etc., the new me. These are people that love me no matter my size but how nice for them to praise me! It was a big thrill and ego booster!
  21. It doesn't seem to me this is a relationship built in trust, love, open communication, etc. Just with what you stated in this post there are issues that need to be addressed. Just as it has been said before-you can not change people! Your wishes for him are not his. He has to have the same dreams for himself. If he does not then it isn't meant to be. I am so sorry!
  22. I went shopping this weekend with my family. While in banana Republic I tried on a sweater because I was cold. (not normal for this hot momma!) and it fit. I mean looked good in the front, back, it FIT! I told my family, "I am having a moment! " I bought it too. I have never in my life owned anything from Banana Republic! What a thrill!
  23. Yes the key to success is walking around the house. It does wonders! Enjoy the new you! The first couple of weeks are tough but you can get through it. Congratulations!
