cornhusker got a reaction from shmeyers in October 2014 sleevers check in please!
October 8 surgery. Down 40 lbs. as of Monday. Weigh in once per week. Started working out almost two weeks ago. No problems for the most part. Feel great. Started on soft solids one week after surgery per docs suggestion. Don't drink Protein Shakes, don't puree food. Just eat the small portions of the foods on the list and chew 'email up real well. Haven't "cheated" one time. Not a chip, fry, piece of candy, or sip of pop. I'm in this to go all the way. Not here, going through major surgery, to lose most of my excess weight. I want it ALL gone. Life is good.

This is such a huge milestone for me. I'm not at goal yet and still have about 20 lbs to go but... I've lost a hundred pounds!! Had my band taken out and the sleeve done on the same day last year December 30th. I feel so much better even though I have my battle wounds. I'll likely have to have my arms done at some point but for now I'm in a size 8 and I am very proud of myself. Thank u for being here for me along the way.

You want to ask your surgeon about rules regarding pills. They all vary -- there is no "we" in post-WLS patients when it comes to things like medications, food, exercise, alcohol, caffeine, etc (unless you are talking to someone who had the same doctor you did). My doctor's rules may be very different from yours.
All that said, have you considered liquid multi-vitamins? I took Wellesse liquid multi for four weeks after surgery - a double dose. I didn't have any trouble getting it down, but you can dilute it with Water or light fruit juice if the taste bothers you. My labs have always been great. Good luck to you!

I started taking them 1 day post op. I have the one a day womens VitaCraves gummies. They are like a treat. Lol they are yummy. I also take a chocolate Calcium chew daily. Both were what my surgeon suggested.

I didn't take Vitamins the 1st month. I started taking Vitamin pills once I was release to eat full foods (at week 4 post-op). I've never had a problem with any pills post-op - other than being careful about how much Water I'm washing them down with. (It sucks taking a big swallow and the pill doesn't go down and then wondering if I take another swallow, will it be too much for my sleeve. )
I have read where some people are pureeing their Vitamin pills and mixing them into Protein shakes.

I think you can take them in pill form but you would have to cut them to ensure that you don't get it logged between your esophagus and your baby stomach. Plus, it's more work if you have a busy schedule. Try taking the Gummy. I switched to pill form when I was six months out taking half in the morning and the other half in the evening. I was sooo happy when I switched from gummy to regular pills so I get your pain.
Good luck, you're still a newby so stick with the program for a bit longer.

I weigh myself every Monday morning. I refuse to let myself become fixated on the number. I believe in the process. It's working well so far.

cornhusker reacted to kikicoates78 in Regrets after Gastric Sleeve Surgery, is this normal?
Completely normal!!! I was about a week post ok and I kept thinking what have I done!!! Had my 1st emotional break down at 2 weeks post op. I think it was just lack of carbs I am now 3 weeks post op and feeling 100x better. Once you heal and u find a normalcy in your routine and diet it makes it much easier. My scales have slowed down this week (dreaded 3 week stall) but our finally moving again. It's definitely life changing. Keep your head up! It will get better

Until I got to be about 6-7 weeks post op I ate bananas with a little Peanut Butter and some pineapple that I blended in my Ninja. I didn't worry too much about the carb count then I just wanted to eat a fruit that I could tolerate and keep down. I stopped the pineapple because I found it too sweet.
Now 4 months post op, I do watch my carbs pretty closely and have switched to just eating berries as my fruit. Strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, etc. I try to have a few berries at Breakfast and lunch.
Eventually I'll start incorporating more fruits into my diet. Right or wrong, this is what I do.
    Best of luck!

I am just so excited each day to have the energy to do stuff....doesn't matter what, I don't have to worry anymore about being too tired to chase my 4 and 5 yr old around anymore...they have to worry about keeping up with me!
    Best Decision Ever!!!
Biggest Awesome moment? Picking something up, a shirt, from a normal store...getting it home and it was BIG!!! normal sizes are too big for me! I don't have to shop in mens anymore for tshirts to support my favorite football team, I can wear the cutesy womens tops!! I am in heaven!!
Crossing my legs, who knew it was so comfortable?
The bathroom stalls, I guess they weren't designed small...it was just me filling the whole stall, now I don't have to search out for the biggest one, I can just go!
Life is good...and hubby certainly doesn't mind my extra "energy" ha ha!!

I just got home from first post op checkup. I had surgery 14 days ago. My surgeon was livid with the front office for scheduling me so far out. He said I should've been in to see him a week ago, and because of scheduling, unbeknownst to them or me, I have been on full liquids a whole week longer than they require. My NUT told me I can jump straight to soft/mushies. I'm really excited..actually I'm so excited I feel kinda directionless. food, PEOPLE! I GET TO START EATING FOOD!!!! OMG, I kinda don't know what to do with myself!! *happy dance* oh and ps: they were thrilled with my weight loss of 27lbs in 14 days, and said they could already see it! WOOHOOOO!

I've had a moment or two where I thought. "Dang, this is permanent!" My fifteen year old asked me the other day if I missed being able to eat like I used to. I told him that every now and then I definitely feel that way but the type of foods I ate and the amount of food I ate prior to surgery just isn't ok...on any level. I compared to a heroin addict. They may love their drugs and the feeling they get from them but it is an absolute guarantee that they will end up dead if they keep at it. That was me...with food. You don't get to the size a bariatric surgery candidate gets to without having some seriously poor eating habits over many years. I told my kid that I realized that there other things that are more important to me other than eating a bunch of crap. Living a long healthy life...being an example to my kids...and enjoying things I've been avoiding for years matter to me. I am 2.5 weeks post surgery so I realize I have a ways to go, but I feel 100% better already. I have lost 20 pounds since surgery, I'm fitting into clothes I haven't worn in a long time, and I feel more energized. Food became too important to me for a lot of years and I am determined to move it way down the line in my list of priorities. I wish you luck. I hope with some success and weight loss you'll feel better about your decision.

I had my band taken out and a sleeve done 5 weeks ago. There was a point when I thought I would not be able to have it done because of unexpected financial problems so that made me want it even more. This has made me appreciate it even more.
Permanent is a good thing! You do not want to lose your sleeve do you? Turn the switch from depression to hope! Do not give in to the self pity thoughts that may be overcoming you. I happens to many of us just get rid of them fast, do not dwell in them.
You know you need this tool to help you get healthier. You also know that in 2 weeks you will be eating once again and will have a tool that will help save your life!

cornhusker got a reaction from jessiquoi in Aetna...What did you do to get approved?
I did the 4 month condensed deal to get approved.
    1. Met with PC once a month
    2. Met with trainer once a month
    3. Met with Dietician once a month
    4. Met with Psychiatrist once a month
These were all required by Aetna to hopefully get approved in 4 months rather than the 6 my plan normally requires. I did all of it and got a call from a nurse at Aetna telling me that they didn't have a weight history from 2 years ago. I had 8 years ago, 10, years ago, a few months ago and last year...all making a perfect case for me as far as weight is concerned. Thankfully, I believe this nurse listened to me, took it to her director, and consequently I was approved. Had surgery a week ago Wednesday and so far it's been awesome.
Oh ya, you cannot gain any weight during this time or you will be denied.
