Hi everyone, just wanted to update. I QUIT soda immediately after having some ugly medical results come back. I've been off it for about a month. I also dove in and tried Keto, had great results.
Now that I feel like I've got a good handle on things, i'm trying to adjust a little bit to more of a low carb (40 a day) vs keto and seem to be doing well. changing my mindset was the key and i'm definitely headed in a good direction!

I am 4 yrs post VSG. I have regained a good amount of weight- I got back into drinking soda and I really believe it is a major culprit. Unfortunately i'm really struggling in that area, and I work a night shift job which goes against every grain of my being ( I DON'T sleep days, I have a terrible time staying awake at work, but only have about 15 months left because i'll be moving into a different career path after my post-graduate education is done).
Anyway, my hubs and I both have about 40 lbs to lose. I tried doing a 'bariatric' type diet, with lean Proteins and veg. didn't work too well, I was starved and only lasted 3 days. I tried going back to shakes- I have developed lactose intolerance and vomited from the smell/taste of whey even when I used almond milks. I tried doing a 'low carb' type approach which worked decently (only lasted about a week before I had to go back to work and that blasted soda grabbed hold again). I tried just stopping the soda but it didn't make a huge dent in my weight loss either (I drink mostly diet).
My hubs would like to try Keto. I am very nervous about it. I definitely buy into the major science behind it, but i'm scared with all the fats that i'll be in misery. I am very leery of dumping syndrome and think that the high levels of fat might have me bent over in pain. I don't have a gall bladder so dumping is a definite concern. while most people dump from sugar, my body is actually pretty tolerant to sugar, and I get dumping from fat and dairy (milk and ice cream only).
Has anybody had any success with keto, specifically for regain? thanks

I'm almost 3 years out from surgery and I'm really struggling with regain. I hit my lowest weight about a year out from surgery and am now about 30 lbs up (if I had to guess-I'm not going to weigh). I'm up from an 8 to a 12/14.
I have done the pouch reset and have gone back to basics on the rules. I don't want to weigh until my clothes feel a bit looser - I'm worried that weighing will discourage me. So for now I'm just eating right, following the rules, and keeping my fingers crossed. I just want to know if that will be enough.
Has anyone here successfully conquered significant regain and, if so, how did you do it?
(Also, for the newbies out there, or those worried about how to stop losing, I'm here to say that regain is real. It happens. You can't throw all your eating rules out the window and keep it off. Work the program!)

Actually losing weight is the easy part, maintenance is the hardest thing.

Also, 130 lbs? Dang, girl! That's fantastic! Congrats. We're the same height and were about the same start weight and I'm (happily) holding strong at 158. You must be doing a great job of working the program!

I know they can last several weeks. A lot of it depends on how far out you are from surgery. I've been in a "stall" for a few months, but I think this might just be my new permanent (hopefully) weight. But when I was losing actively, I think my longest stall was 3-4 weeks.
But just follow the program and you'll be fine. If you're following your eating plan, the stall will pass. Only change your eating if you have gone off plan.

    Hello everyone,
I'm Amy, 33, banded July 11, 2003 with Dr. Ortiz. I'm usually a lurker and don't post much, but just thought I would say hello and hope that this site provides lots of inforamtion for all of us. I live in Henderson NV, right outside Las Vegas. With the current heat, it allows me lots of time on the computer. I made the decision to get lap band after several unsuccessful attempts to lose weight. I saw first hand how my life would be through the eyes of my obese mother and father. I just didn't want to spend the greater portion of my adult life with high blood presssure, high cholesterol, bad knees, back ect. I'm looking to a bright future with the extra pounds gone!!
    Sincerely,
    Amy

I practically live in my car. I work for myself and when my kids leave at 6:30 in the morning, I'm out of the house, too. I'm often not home until 7 or 8 at night, so my days are long.
I carry Snacks but as summer approaches, it's harder to do so I'm always trying to find options that are tasty and inexpensive. I also don't like having leftovers because my cooler will only keep things so long in 90 degree heat.
I have found that restaurants will work with you if you are polite and simply ask for what you want.
Noodles has a small side salad (garden or caesar) and will allow you to do an add on meat. They don't advertise it but it's the perfect size for $4.
Qdoba had a kids' bowl and will double the Beans and leave out the rice. Add meat, cheese, sour cream and lettuce and it's perfect. $5
Which Wich "skinnies" your sandwich by pulling out all the soft part of the bread, or you can have your sandwich in a lettuce wrap. Either way, I can only eat half, but for $7, it can't be beat.
Panda Express sells their Entrees in a teeny box for $3.50. It does not come with rice, which is fine for me. A bigger portion is the kids' meal for $5. I get the veggies and an entree, not the lo mein or rice.
Jason's Deli will allow y the get a kids' salad for $4.50. It's one trip to the salad bar and a drink (to go for me) and it's very fresh.
I order kids' meals all the time. I don't ask if I can, I don't apologize or explain, I just order it. It works.

I have coffee daily and alcohol sometimes. I am 8 mos out and I still need a daily acid blocker, which lots of people don't need after the first month. When I drink, I don't lose that week. So, you can do it, but there might be tradeoffs.
