  1. Hi guys! Today is my one year surgiversary!!!! Hard to believe it's been a year! I wrote a short essay about my experience that I think you all might enjoy and possibly share! The courage to write is a direct product of this surgery! Here is the link! http://tinyurl.com/nlbxbd2 xoxo

    Farewell My 140 Pound Friend

    Thank you!!!
  4. Welcome, new gay sleevers! Tomorrow is my one-year Surgiversary! I'm down 134 pounds from a top weight of 381. I'm 34, 6"2' gay male. Married and happy as hell. That said, It's hard work. Not necessarily physically (for me), the weight came off practically on it's own, but mentally, emotionally and experiencially it's been a challenging year. Do what the doctors tell you about HOW to lose the weight, constantly remind yourself WHY you lose the weight and, most importantly, do some sort of emotional work to figure out why you gained the weight in the first place. I strongly recomend support groups like Overeaters Anonymous and individual therapy. Some doctors offer support groups as well, which weren't a fit for me, but might be for you. My only regret is not doing it sooner. Take lots of photos and get ready for an exciting adventure!!!

    Occasional Endless Pit

Hi guys! Almost 4 months out and 79 pounds down. Very, very happy. But I have a question. Every once in a while, my stomach suddenly has a day where it feels like there is no restriction. I'm constantly hungry, can eat nearly twice as much as normal and am still hungry. I know some of this is emotional eating, but is there any reason to explain why I can suddenly do it physically? Other days if I overheat I feel instantly uncomfortable and sick, but then there are these random "free days" that freak me out!!

    Mens Stats

Hey guys, so glad I found this forum! I'm 3 weeks post-sleeve and have lost a total off 38 pounds, (13 pre-op, 25 since surgery) I am 33 years old, 6'2" and started at 381. How much weight did you guys lose each week on average your first few weeks and months? I just want to get realistic when I get on the scale, but I also want to make sure I'm getting the best results possible. What do you guys eat daily? I'm a little nervous because I feel like I am already eating at the top of my doctor recommendations and worried about old habits, but I'm eating soooooooooooooooo much less than ever before that also feels silly. I'm drinking one Protein shake a day and then getting the rest of my protein from mashed and puréed foods. (yogurt, white fish, tuna, hummus, Beans, eggs) I'm trying to only eat 3 oz of food in one sitting, but occasionally I get slower to 4, then other times I can only finish 2 (my dog is ecstatic at the amount of extra tuna she gets when I don't finish) Anyway, any feedback, stats and tips would be great! It's hard to find men who've gone through this!
  8. K, I am nearing my 4 week mark and that is when my Dr said I could start using a scar cream or lotion, etc on my incision spots. I am of Irish descent and have pretty fair/pale skin and tend to scar pretty easily. I'd love tips and recommendations. While we're at it, tips for moisturizing skin and helping it bounce back after weight loss? I know that's very case by case, but I'd love those tips as well!!

    Instagram

I don't know if any of you guys post on Instagram at all, but I know searching #vsg or #vsginstacrew has been really helpful for me in my recovery. The only thing is that it's mostly women, which is fine except sometimes I want to see men's stories and posts, so I started posting using #vsgmen If you are on Instagram and posting, toss that hashtag in your post and we can keep track of each other.

    Feeling discoraged july sleever

Today was "Weigh-In Wednesday" (that's what I call my weekly weigh in) and, just like clockwork, 3 WEEK STALL!!! Literally exact same weight as last week (344.2). I planned for this so I am going to do measurements and photos later to remind myself of the NSVs, but man, it really is disheartening. I know it will pass, but it's the first break in momentum post surgery, so it's a little bit of a reality check. I a, so thankful this board is here to have warned me about it!! I would probably be losing my MIND right now if I wasn't prepared!!!

    Incision Pain

I am almost 3 weeks out (19 days) and I just started experiencing some fairly intense pain in the incision they removed the stomach from. Has anyone else experienced this this far out from surgery? I am otherwise pain free. Also, I started sleeping on my stomach about a week out from surgery. Could this contribute?

    Incision Pain

So, I'm now on day 7 of this incision pain. It's gonna a bit less painful in the stabbing sense, but it has a general dull pain to it at all times. I am in my 4th week post surgery now and I am starting to get just a little concerned. Thoughts? Should I call the doctor again?
  14. Hey guys, So, I'm a little over 3 weeks out of surgery and have been really good on my doctor recommended food plan. However, at a birthday party last night, I ate aprox a tablespoon of cake frosting (Strawberry/Pillsbury). I looked it up and it was about 11 g of sugar. About 2 hours later I suddenly got VERY hungry, like the hungriest I've felt since surgery. I ate about an ounce of egg salad and then went to bed, Shortly after, I got incredibly bloated and gassy, but unable to pass it easily, plus a little nauseous. I definitely would t call this "dumping" as it was t super severe, but I'm just curious if anyone else has ever had a similar reaction to sugar or if this sounds normal. I will definitely be avoiding sugar for a while. Wow.

    Sick and Gassy After Sugar

It was a tablespoon of frosting, not cake, I know I can't eat any flour products. Now I know sugar is gonna have to wait too.
  16. I'm 3 weeks out and already landing in the 700-900 calorie range. Not gonna lie, it's probably the mayo with the tuna I'm eating regularly. I was advised, as a man of y age and size, to shoot for just under 1200 once I am on regular food and exercising regularly, so I think I'm on track, although it sometimes feels daunting. I find that I can't get as many calories as I need AND protein that I need unless I do 2 protein drinks a day. Ideally, I'd only be doing one a day as my NUt would prefer me to get protein from real food.

    Who knew?

Haha. I went to Costco one week out as well and it was BY FAR the most exhausted I've been since surgery. We didn't even finish the store and I had to check out and go home. This post made me lol because I relate so much!! I've been joking about it with my husband for the last 2 weeks!

    Incision Pain

I sneezed today and it hurt like hell!! I talked to my doctor and he said it was indeed just the healing process, but to keep track of where the pain was and how often, as there is a slight possibility it could be gall bladder, but highly unlikely this soon after surgery.
