    Hello,
I'm a type one diabetic and sleeved. normal range is 70-120 fasting. I now have more low blood sugars after surgery. I use my insulin once in a great while. My dietitian gave me advice that if my blood sugar drops to drink watered down orange juice. When its watered down it doesn't upset my tummy as much. I also have glucose tablets with me when I'm out of the house.

    Frustrating...right?
It will break. I don't know of anyone who had a steady line of weight loss. Its more like stair steps. The weight will hang on for a while... then it will drop. go up a few at times then drop again.

From a size 22 jeans to a size 3. I have worked out regularly after surgery(cardio and weight training)...... I still have the skin situation
I am beyond happy with my WLS results. I have body issues to begin with form years of being obese. . It would help me be less self conscious to have plastics. The skin situation is really not as bad as I thought it would be. Body sharpers do help for now.

Healthy_life2 reacted to Recycled in For newbies, I'm Just starting the process......wait a minute, that can't be right.
I'm disgusted with how I look and feel...so I finally thought I'd look into Weight loss surgery. Just to see what is available and if If it would work for me. Looked up some local Surgeons and Hospitals on the net and some of the surgeons had free information seminars. So, I'm going to my first seminar tonight.....err.....
.I mean support group. (not really for support..I just like showing off the new bod and encouraging others) Confused....don't be
The point I'm trying to make is...... it surely seems like I just started the process....... When I thought about getting surgery, I figured I probably wouldn't qualify and the cost was probably more than I could afford....but what the heck, I'm fat and not losing my way, so what could it hurt. Probably won't do it and nutin's gonna change anyway.
So I went.... I kinda thought my interests was in the Lap Band. Ya know, the one I've already heard about. I get there and find out there is now three or even four different types of procedures and a whole lot of statistics. Great.....choices.....I didn't expect choices. I wanted sure fire easy. I had my notepad with a bunch of questions and after the surgeon spoke about each procedure, I fired away with several questions about the Band. He was very informative and heightened my interests. There was a few of his patients there that spoke about their processes and experiences and that, I felt was the most convincing. I gave the coordinator my insurance info and thought.....now we'll see what happens.
Guess what.....my insurance actually covered WLS. So I made an appointment with the surgeon for a consult. Just a consult...,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
.(I thought....I'm not sold yet) So I go to the consult and brief him on my history and goals and my interest in the Band....blah blah blah....and almost straight away he says......the band is not a good fit for you.....you'd be better off gettin the sleeve. Hmmmmm, that took the air outa my sails.....I really wanted the band. ---- OK, I'll think about it.
I did think about it....ALOT.....researched everything including the Surgeon, the Hospital, everything I could find about the Sleeve and you'll never guess.......he was right. It made better sense. It sounded radical....but after reading about so many successful outcomes, not really so bad. -( I found Bariatric Pal during this time as well which really helped me get informed the most)
I called and started the application for approval. ----- What.!!! six months, are you kidding me....talk about deflated....Oh well, I'll go along....( I probably will change my mind anyway and not get it) Zooooom.....fast forward six,,,seven...eight,,...nine months.
Even with a few insurance and tests gliches along the way....I can't believe it went that fast and I'm approved......

Ok,.....here's the big one.........I just got off the phone with the Doc's office and the surgery is scheduled..... in two weeks. Wait, wait, wait......I need MORE time. I'm gonna really do this.
Surgery day and I'm in my room recovering.....Damn....I'm still fat and now uncomfortable and haven't lost an ounce. This is gonna take forever.....Bariatric Pal is no help....all they keep sayin is "hang in there" or give it time....blah blah blah......Cmon, I had the surgery..... I should be losing tons already......I wanna see results........This is gonna take forever..... I don't want to think about a year from now.....I got on the scale today four times and it didn't change an ounce. Oh well....might as well sit back and just go with the flow.....and see what happens...... Zoooooooom (yeah, believe it.....I said zooooom. A whole year, just that quick)
A HUNDRED &TWENTY POUNDS gone forever and I look and feel fantastic. And I'm headed to the Seminar.....I mean the support group....see, I still get those confused cause I can't believe it went by that fast. Yes, I said FAST. I actually have a hard time remembering the phases along the way.....they kinda blur together. Who cares, I'm here, I'm skinny and you will be too. And you'll think the whole thing happened in a flash.
Long story.....short point.......Don't fret the wait.....Like most things in life, time flys.

Healthy_life2 got a reaction from AvaFern in Valentine’s Day Question: Has Weight Loss Surgery Improved Your Relationship?
    Wow,
My husband and I have always had a solid relationship. After weight loss surgery I have found myself again. Besides the regained confidence I have become a genuinely happy person and I have found things that I am passionate about in life.
Passion with my husband has definitely increased. We chase each other around like teenagers and have started dating again.
My husband is my biggest cheerleader. Throughout the Bariatric process he has always believed in me. We are both beyond happy about the physical changes with WLS. The changes in my personality have blown him away. I have a positive drive for living life. I don't plan on wasting this amazing gift I have received from this process.
My husband has made reservations for dinner on Valentines day. I have bought a hot little red dress for him. I am so fortunate to actually be in love with the man that has been in my life for 20 years.

I have a question for you. I’d like to feature a story in the Valentine’s Day newsletter about weight loss surgery and relationships. If you’d like me to consider including yours, please post on this thread!
Is there anyone out there who has found that their relationship with their SO has gotten better after Weight Loss Surgery? Maybe your relationship got stronger after going through some of the hardships, or you’re closer because of your new body and confidence?
Thanks for sharing! I can’t wait to read the great stories.

It has been easy for me to cook for the family. They eat healthier.
I make chicken or Steak fajitas. They have a tortilla I don't. I always make more than what the family will eat to freeze in small containers. Frozen left overs are a easy microwave lunch for me at work.
Ground turkey chilly. I make a few corn bread muffins for the family I make sure they eat them all that night. I don't want to be tempted.
banana slices with sugar free chocolate pudding(added Protein powder). I add a bit of sugar free caramel topping on the bananas. I chop up a sugar free toffee and nuts and sprinkle them on top
Asian stir fry. I serve it with brown rice. I'm far enough out that I'm allowed brown rice.

Thanks for that post! Very encouraging. I too had been skating by with good genes. After spending a year losing and regaining the same 15 pounds, I had an epiphany back in July of 2014 that realistically, that good luck was going to end. It was not an "if" but a "when." Although I did not want WLS, I made an appt. and have not looked back. Surgery was November 19th. I am down 58 pounds and just thrilled. The only time in my life that I have gone through the holidays without gaining weight! I do have fears of not reaching goals but I try to put them out of my mind as that is counter-productive.
BTW- people at work started noticing the weight loss right about the 50 pound mark.

I feel as though I started this journey many years ago. I wanted to believe I could get a grip on my weight with each new diet, program, pill, therapy, exercise, support, and starvation gimmick i tried. I have been successful in most areas of my life. I graduated college and went on to get a Masters Degree. So the theory that I just couldn't follow something through to completion didn't fit. I had a great job, great friends and an active social life. But for all my successes, my weight continued increase and my efforts to loose weight were a failure.
I am now 63 and I have, I believe, been skating through life on my good genes. My blood pressure has only recently gone up as has my cholesterol. I have sleep apnea, and trouble with one knee from an old dance injury . All other health issues are just looming on the horizon. JUST? As a reasonably bright person I know that heart disease, diabetes, and other problems aren't just looming. They are well on their way to my life.
But, my final straw happened this summer when a dear, younger friend of mine passed away from type2Diabetes. Cynthia entered a hospital on a Wed. evening from a badly infected foot. On Sunday her leg was amputated and on Tuesday afternoon she had a blood clot that went to her brain. With her family and me by her side, she was taken off of life support on Wed. evening. Within one week my dear, wonderful, 53 yr old friend was dead from complications of Diabetes. I had to ask myself how much longer was I going to live with that risk of Diabetes looming in my future. Enough was enough.
I started investigating VSG last July. I only spoke to my cousin about it. Each time I had spoken to my husband about it he would always ask, "What if it doesn't work? Nothing else has". But this time was different, I was out of options and I started to say to my self, " what if it does work?".
5 months later, after jumping through 452 hoops, On Dec 30, 2014 I had sleeve surgery.
I'm only 21days post op. I've been so lucky. I had a fabulous surgeon, terrific post op care, and virtually none of the common side effects from sleeve surgery. I'm learning how to eat and drink anew. I'm doing well with my weight loss( but struggling with getting in enough Protein, Water and exercise). Though I've lost 25 lbs no one has noticed yet . Most importantly, I am confident in my new path. I have a long way to go and so much to learn.
Thanks to everyone who has posted on this site. I feel like we are all in this together. Good luck and healthy traveling on your journey to better health. Paula

I have been married for over 20 years. We have a solid relationship before wls. I'm always amazed that he has been my biggest cheerleader. He has always believed in me. He is letting me spread my wings and fly. Yes, he has had some insecure moments. He has told me the weight loss is nice but to have me happy and involved in my life is a greater thing. We are like teenagers again. Yesterday he asked me to marry him again. This has been positive for our marriage.
