  1. @@Cassie111 I just looked at your before and after photo. You look amazing. I know there is nothing I can say to change the way you feel about yourself. What is it that will make you happy? Some things to think about: (1) If you had plastics are you still going to find more faults in your appearance? When you turn 80. Will you need more plastics to be happy? (2) Its a shock to have physical changes that happen so quickly. Have you thought about a counselor to get past body image issues? (3) plastics are expensive. If you have documented rashes with your Dr. some insurance companies will cover a portion of plastics. (4)There is no such thing as a perfect body. Even models In magazines are air brushed. I hope with time you can accept how beautiful you are.
  2. I was the only person judging me harshly at the gym. Tour gyms in your area to find what feels comfortable. Have the staff show you the machines and how to use them. My gym is family friendly. All ages and fitness levels. First, I was intimidated. I thought their would only be these amazing in shape people at the gym. It was a relief to find people starting out just like me. I stayed in the cardio area for months before I ventured to the weight lifting area. I feel very much at home in the gym. After two years, I'm one of the regulars. No more intimidation.
  3. @@campingdiva You are normal. My biggest celebration was reading the scale at 199 pounds. It's exciting pre op to think what will it be like being at goal weight. It's hard to imagine if you have been over weight most of your life. Just for fun. Here is a site. It will give you an idea of what your weight loss result may be http://modelmydiet.com/ Congrats on you surgery date. Keep us posted
  4. When your boss asks you to instruct residents on physical fitness (cardio/strength training) as new job duties.
  5. @@leonelbreton Looking healthy and lean. And rocking those jeans .
  6. @@TracyBar 2) I've read a lot about the fact that your calories should come from Protein for the most part. But what about vegetables and fruit? what about a balanced diet, with nutrients and Vitamins from lots of different foods? How does one thrive on a diet rich in protein but deficient in veg and fruit and some carbs? I'm two years out. Salads/vegetables combined with my protein helps to keep me satisfied. I feel the sensation of full better. Also Fiber and nutrients. You will learn so mush about how to fuel your body correctly. All of the old ways that didn't serve us well will change over to eating healthy. You have a better understanding of a new relationship with food. Food is still amazing.Eating becomes normal. Attached are recipes of what food will look like. http://insidekarenskitchen.com/bariatric-friendly-recipes/ My instructions were after 75% of weight loss to add plant based or whole wheat carbs. Here is an example of a bariatric plate.
  7. @@Jesm1029 Some healthier salty alternatives to try . Getting some Protein in is a bonus to keep hunger down and nourish your body. Quest chips..In moderation. Parmesan chips: Make your own. They also sell them at whole foods http://insidekarenskitchen.com/baked-cheese-crisps/ Beef or turkey Jerky.
  8. @@Essence46 Congratulations on the size 12. I hope the body image will change for you. I worked with a counselor on seeing myself as a smaller package. An option to try. Get a piece of clothing that is a size 20. Try it on in front of a mirror. Sometimes you need that reminder of how far you have come.
  9. @@kayse Its normal to be afraid of the unknown. You goal is healthy. I started at 254 I lost 119 pounds I can't afford plastics. I have loose skin on my mid section, back, arms, butt, inner thighs and my boobs are deflated. It's all manageable with shape wear and a good bra. This is where I'm at after 2 years. It was worth all the loose skin in the world.
  10. Seriously time to get the adult panties on. Again if you want people to enable behavior, you will have to be ready to accept your weight loss results. People will confront you out of concern. It's all up to you on the choices you make. None of us will do the work for you. Take it for what it is. Advice. Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App

  13. @@erp Thanks for the link. At my age I don't think I will be a bikini model. lol. Building then cutting I'm looking into. I had a great glute and leg workout tonight. I'm feeling it! can't wait to get some booty.
  14. @@LipstickLady It's still important to me to see the veterans here. I see less and less of them. I can't take responsibility for peoples short or long term success. All I can do is offer my experience, suggestions and give referrals to the experts (medical professionals) I pick and choose what I read and respond to. Its disturbing to see people wanting any excuse to not follow their surgeons plan. I hate to see (newbie or Veteran) enabling poor decisions. I won't validate anyone's poor choices. I seem just to skip over many threads because I cant say the same thing over and over. I understand people asking for help and being honest about choices. I want to see people succeed. When they slip I want to see them get back on the horse. I will cheer them on. It comes down to this....It's all on them to do the work. No one can do it for them.
  15. @@cuddletime Yep, I have reactive hyperglycemia. It is manageable. Consult your surgery team.
  16. @@KaiserKid I have had several issues spring their ugly head in this process. Working them out with a counselor was the best gift from my sleeve. It's good to address issues about our weight. Behavior change is so important for sucess. Learn to forgive and love yourself. As for people that comment about your weight. We live in a judgemental society. We are told we are not enough by the media and people around us. We are sold by ad's that we must live up to someone else's standard of beauty. The only person that gets to define you is YOU! Be your own Awesome. I no longer invest my time in negative people that want to tear you down. The same people will find another negative trait to comment on after you lose weight. Keep yourself surrounded by people that support you.

  19. @@solea78 I'm 2 years out. My cardio is limited right now due to an injury. I can eat more food, Its important for me to keep my diet dialed in. (log your food) go back to basics. Protein first ( I upped my protein to 100 to 150 gms), vegetables low carb. As much Water as you can get in. If you are looking for meal ideas..Here is a site for recipes http://insidekarenskitchen.com/bariatric-friendly-recipes/ Swimming or anything low impact are great options. Another option is to lift weights at home or in a gym. Studies show that a well-designed strength program can elevate your EPOC or metabolism for up to 38 hours after the workout. In other words, you continue to burn calories long after strength training. Whereas once you stop cardio, the calorie burning stops as well. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/buffmother2.htm http://www.bodybuilding.com/content/strength-training-for-fat-loss-building-a-bigger-engine.html http://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/ .We are here cheering you on.
  20. @@luvelye1101 Its normal to fear the unknown outcome of your weight loss. Some insurance companies will cover skin removal if you have documented rashes from your surgeons office. I think some of the loose skin photos scared me. I expected the worst. My loose skin was not as bad as I thought it would be. My confidence is 100% improved with my smaller healthier package.
  21. To help me breath. I mouth the words to my music when I run. It let's me know if can sustain my pace on long runs. Even on the treadmill. I don't care if anyone is laughing. It keeps me focused and pumps up my adrenaline. Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App

  24. @@OutsideMatchInside Always try clothing on. Your absolutely right. Clothing size mean nothing. just know some clothing may not fit your body type. Find what looks amazing for you. Its great when we have more options than lane bryant. Gives us an excuse to shop. I love it!. . After I reached the point of Jr's clothing, I would go to the plus size parts of stores out of habit. i still looked at myself as a larger size. Your sizes change so fast. It takes time for your body to settle into your new smaller package. I bought more expensive pieces once I reached goal. I never had a size goal. I wanted to get off my c-pap and get healthy. once I hit maintenance it took time for my mind to adjust that I was a size 2 to a 4. (depending on the designer) Enjoy Shopping!
  25. @@Dub Weight loss took away my booty! Its all a work in progress. Dub I've seen your arms..They look fantastic. Woohoo well done!. Even if its girly weights .
