Congratulations! Keep up the amazing work. I can't wait to see how far you go in a year. Having a scale is a blessing and a curse. Just be sure you try and only weigh yourself once a week. This will keep you from falling into the traps that a lot of post surgery patients succumb to. At first it is exciting to see weight loss every day, but as things progress and your losses start leveling out it can get very frustrating to not see weight loss every day. Just something to keep in mind now.

I had my Roux en y on October 15th. My first weigh in was today and I'm down 25 lbs! We don't have a scale at home so I have been unable to weigh myself but that's how I wanted it. There are so few surprises in life anymore. Now that I've had this weigh in im off to get scales. So far things have gone pretty well. I had a drain for the first 10 days and having it removed was no picnic. I've not thrown up and don't plan on it if I can help it! Started out on this journey on May 26th at 387. On surgery date I was at 380 now I'm down to 355 as of today!

My surgery is this Wednesday, October 15th. I found a great book that helped with the anxiety I had just like yours. The name of the book The Weight Loss Surgery Coping Companion by Tanie Miller Kabala. Dr. Kabala takes your through all the range of emotions you will experience before and after surgery. Good luck!!

Glad you found this site ... there is so much information and support here. I am 60 and like you, at 365 lbs. I could not stand for more than 5 mins at a time (sciatica nerve) and walking was out of the question. I was miserable. The doctor and I decided on RNY gastric bypass because you lose more weight and you have a greater chance of getting rid of diabetes. I started the liquid diet a little early and lost 30 lbs and the day after tomorrow is 4 weeks post op and I have lost another 30. Feeling great ... getting into old clothes and joined a gym last week. No regrets at all, though I have had a few minor complications. About to go below 300lbs for the first time in a long time. Very excited!
If there is anything you would like to ask or just for support, send me a shout and let me know.

    Hello:
One other thing to find out is if you don't use insurance will any post-op complications related to the surgery be covered. The answer to that might help you with your decision.
Please share here when you do get the final answer so that we can all learn from your experience.
    Take care.

I am going thru Anthem bc/bs...and I noticed that my surgeons office gave me my co-pay and deductible, after they showed almost a $5000 insurance write off. They agree to do it for the lessor amount covered by insurance. I thought to myself, "Oh wow, I would hate to be self pay, they charge them more", but who knows, you cannot get a straight answer when it comes to cost in the medical field. Hang in there.
