  1. Figured I would share my update. Sleeved June 3rd and weighed in at 305 lbs. Today July 29th 56 days later and I weighed in at 255. Booyaa 50 lbs gone so far! No secrets or magic, just following the guidelines I was given. My typical day is way different than most I read on here, but it seems to be working, so I'll stick with it. My calorie intake is 550-650 per day. And over 300 of that is from protein shakes. Plus according to my fitness pal and fitbit, I am burning 500 plus calories per day by walking. I have a nice big 3 scoop shake everymorning to start the day. Then I walk for 1 hour, no if ands or buts about it, 1 hour. Lunch is usualy some canned tuna with mustard and a boiled egg mashed up together (about 1 ounce). Or an ounce of baked talipia. Plus another 30 minutes of walking. Supper is the same thing, tuna or baked talipia. Never more than 1.5 ounces, because I can't eat any more than that. I have been trying to incorporate some salad in with Supper. But it is very minimal. Just not able to fit any in. Water consumption is off the charts. I drink 150 plus ounce's of water a day, everyday. I track everything on my fitness pal and use a fitbit to keep track of my steps and active minutes per day. I did try to go one day where I ate more and tried to get my protein from food. Damn near killed me. I was not able to eat enough to get in the 80-100 grams of protein. And felt 'sick' / overstuffed all day. Daily averages are 80-100 grams of protein, and 20 or less on the carbs. Plus the vitamins recommended by the doctor.
  2. I ordered the flex, and like it for all the same reasons that others have posted. I like the fact that it is in a wristband, versus clipping it on or putting it in pocket. I figured that the clip on was a sure fire way to end up in the washing machine, or lost somewhere. I've been wearing the flex for 2 months now and have zero issues, be it work, play, rest, etc...
  3. I use a bottle of Tobasco about every 3 days. No issues for me either.
  4. I'm not a female. But UHC did cover this surgery for my wife. Kind of the same as was stated before. Neck pain, gouges in the shoulders from her bra straps, back pain, headaches. Our primary care doc recommended the surgery, sent her to a plastic surgeon. Paperwork was submitted, and approved. I cant say I dont miss the twins everynow and then, but her quality of life has improved 100%. And she / we are more than satisfied with the results.
  5. I was going to post the same thing! They told me pencil eraser size and chew that 20-30 times. I guess you heard it from Surgical Specialists/Vesta too? I cannot stick to that at all, but I try to slow down and chew well. Sometimes I'll have to ask whoever I'm sharing a meal with if they can slow down, because I'll keep pace with them without thinking. 10 mins later it hurts. So far the only thing that feels like it gets "stuck" on the way down, no matter how well I chew, is chicken breast. Can't complain about being on a seafood diet.. Crawfish, shrimp, fish, and crab. Yum! I totaly agree with the Seafood Diet! I'm so glad I had my surgery done in Louisiana lol.
  6. 7 weeks post op here, and understand exactly what you mean. As strange as it may sound, my sinuses kick into overdrive and my nose starts running when i hit full. I have yet to consume more than 2 ounces of anything as far as 'food' is concerned. Water, not a problem, I can drink buckets. But let me get close to 1.5 ounces of scrambled eggs and its time to get the tissues. Weired I know, but its the truth. I have a follow up appt in a few weeks, and plan on asking if this is normal or happened to any others.
  7. I was like you pre surgery. I thought the Protein shakes were a desert, absoultly loved them. Now I would just as soon drink Water from a mud puddle. That being said, I have been unable to get the NUT recommended 80-100 grams of protein a day without using the protein powders. At home I drink muscle milk, and have no issues with it other than the costs lol. But I work international and those products are not available here. So I pack jugs of Protein Powder. What I have been doing is putting 3 scoops in with 20 ounces of water and 2 spoons of instant coffee, blend well the night before and having 60 grams of coffee flavored protein for breakfast. The coffee helps mask the taste and gives me my fix that I wasn't getting before since I quit drinking coffee.
  8. I was basically told the same thing. Except the NUT told me to cut my food to the size of a pencil eraser and chew thourghly. Put the fork down between each bite and keep chewing. I'm at 7 weeks post op, and unable to eat more than 1.5 ounces per meal. It usually more like an ounce, of normal food. I can drink a bucket full of Water, but food fills me up so fast that I just give up. (Not that thats a bad thing ) I plan on just taking it day by day, and figure the food intake will increase with time. PS. 49 days post op, 47 lbs gone forever.
  9. My surgery was on June 3rd. I have been tracking my calories on myfitnesspal for the past 5-6 months. Post surgery, I have not been able to go over 700 calories a day. And most of that comes from a Protein shake consisting of 3 scoops of Wheybolic Amp 60 protein from GNC. Granted, the only food I have been eating is canned tuna, eggs, and baked fish. But I just can't get in enough food to reach 80-100 grams of protein a day. Hell, I can't eat 2 scrambled eggs. So my food intake is around 1 to 1.5 ounces per meal. I have a follow up appointment in a few weeks, I plan on bringing in a print out of my food logs and seeing what they have to say. On a good note, the day of the surgery I weighed 305 and 49 days later I have lost 46 lbs. With a 1 week stall in there around week 3.
  10. I'm 7 weeks post op and can tell you that without having a Protein shake, I couldn't get in the NUT recommended amount of protein. I tried to just 'eat' 70 grams of protein one day. not posible. I just couldn't get in enough food. I've been drinking shakes for 9 months now and let me tell you, they suck! I enjoyed them at first, but now that they are required, I would just as soon drink piss. I found New whey protein shots are the way to go for me. 42 grams of protein in a 3.8 ounce shot. My surgon approved of them and said he drinks one a day to supplement his protein intake himself. Not the cheapest way to get your protein in, but waaaay better than sluging down a gritty powder mixed up in a blender in my opinion. Also, all my post op paperwork showed me to need 60 grams of protein a day. But the NUT crossed that out and bumped it up to 80-100 per day for me. So I guess thats normal.
  11. I had United Health Care -choice plus. I had no other health issues other than being overweight. So the only reason I qualified was my bmi was over 40. ( I was told that if I was able to get under 40 during the 6 month supervised diet that UHC required. I would be denied coverage) Not telling you that is set in stone, but I was told that by more than a few people. Just follow the 'rules' and jump through the hoops and UHC will approve you. I started this journey 3 times, and got pissed off and quit the first two times. Due to the hoops and BS you have to jump through to get approved. Third time was a charm. I made a point to kiss butt, cross all my Tee's and dot the i's, be polite and follow their guidelines exactly as instructed. After my 6th visit with the NUT, paperwork was submitted, and approved in 18 days. Surgery was in early June, 49 days later I am 46 lbs lighter. No regrets except I wish I would of stuck with the plan the first time around.
  12. Again, the surgon and NUT said it would be ok. BUT I was able to bring some of them foil packages of tuna and smoked salmon with me through customs, and Saudi gate guards. So all is well, Ive been slamming Protein shakes in the AM and spliting a tuna pack between lunch and supper. Protein intake is at 80 grams a day and calorie intake is 500 plus a tad. Feeling great and losing weight 39 lbs gone in 38 days. Thanks for the concern, all is good.
  13. Just hold out until you get to the 'normal' food stage. You will know when your full or over full, and you will pay for it. Not a good feeling at all. I was the same way with liquids, I still comsume 120-150 ounces of Water a day. But 3 small spoons of tuna salad and im finished. Be patient, fullness is coming.
  14. I agree with the rest, and you need to speak to your doctor. That being said, I am a oilfield worker so I would say my job is very physical. I returned to work just under 3 weeks post op (19 days). I was told to walk as much as I could handle when I woke up from surgery. So I was walking a mile every day from the day I was released from the hospital. I too had some issues with being tired and weak. I found that once I started eating mushy foods, that went away. I assume the 60 grams of Protein was not enough, but with some tuna added to the menu, I feel great. Been back at work in the Arabian Sun for the past 3 weeks and not having any issues at all. BTW it's 116 degrees over here. I drink Water like a fish, (around 120-150 ounces a day) 80 grams of protein and feeling great. (60 grams from powder, 20 plus from tuna)
  15. I found the 'Protein shots' at walmart. 42 grams of protein in a 3.8 ounce tube. Slam it down quick, versus mixing a Protein powder shake. Made getting my protein in, much easier. Also, Muscle Milk tastes way better to me than my whey protein powders. Not sure why, but I would rather have them anyday versus mixing my own.
  16. My surgery date was June 3rd. HW. 317 SW. 305 CW. 273.4 GW. 175
  17. I had a hiatal hernia repaird during my surgery. I didnt even know I had one, never had any issues. This is coming from someone who ate every spicy food available and uses a bottle of Tobasco sauce every 4-5 days. Kind of makes me wonder if it was really there or just a add on.... hummmm..... Anyway, no issues at all. Had the surgery and felt like normal 3-4 days later.
  18. 10 days post op for me. Down 20 lbs, and feeling great. Not having any issues with drinking, been comsuming over 140 Ounces of Water per day for the past week. Cooking meals for the family, picking up take out, not tempted in the least. I just grab a bottle of water and chug it down. Gas pain was gone after day two, and I know that walking is what took care of it. Ive been getting 5000 - 10000 steps a day in according to my fitbit. Keep your heads up and walk, walk, walk, it will get better. I have zero regrets other than not doing this sooner.
  19. Day 7 post op for me, and feeling great. Had no issues after the surgery other than the typical gas in the chest and tenderness around the incisions. I was walking like I was training for the olympics, and actually decided to do some laps for excercise. Walked a mile and felt great, even in the Louisisan blazing heat and sun. 2 days post op and I felt like I never had the surgery. Bought a Bow Flex Tread Climber and a Fitbit, and plan on using them for fitness versus a laundry hanger / coat rack. Getting in over 100 ounces of liquid (water) daily with no issues. I did have a muscle milk on day 5 just because I was out and working and needed some energy. That shot threw me like a bottle of castor oil, I guess I will hold off on the protein until instructed by Doc and NUT. ( day 10) Had my follow up appt with the Doc, said I was doing great, continue with the program they have laid out. Weight loss at day 7 is 17 lbs, day of surgery 305lbs, 7 days later 288. Loving the new me.
  20. Exactly 7 days post-op for me. Have not had any issues, and feeling great. Down 17 lbs from the morning of my surgery. Sipped for the first two days, and still had the pain / burps, now it doesn't phase me. Kinda getting tired of water and Mio falvored water, but this is the path I choose. Cooked the family a massive pan of lasagna the other day, when I say massive, I used over 5 1/2 pounds of cheese for that bad boy. Never sampled a bite, not even a quick lick of the spoon from the sauce. Feeling good, been doing everything I would normally do, except lifting anything heavy. Now looking forward to the Phase 2 part of the liquid diet. Never thought I would be happy to have some cream of chicken soup.
  21. Finally got confirmation, pre-op on the 2nd, surgery on the 3rd. FINALLY! Time to start a new chapter in my life.
  22. I've been lucky enough to have traveled across the US, but I have to say my (new) home state is one of my favorites. Louisiana has a mixture of all the other states stired up into one. Our food is second to none, and anything and everything is celebrated with food and drink. Hunting and fishing are excellent. New Orleans has so much culture and history, you may never want to leave. Michigan is also quite beautiful. Spend a day or two in Frankenmuth then travel north to the UP. Plenty of camping, trails, & fishing to be done.
  23. I was instructed to not go below the 40 BMI, because my insurance wouldn't cover it if I did. So during my 6 month supervised diet, I had to control my loss. I'm sure every insurnace company is different, but that is what was suggested / told to me by my NUT..
  24. Damamn and Kafjhi usually. Mainly I'm offshore, Damamn is where we fly into and Kafjhi is the port we leave out of.
