  1. I had my surgery on the 28th Sept. Am so glad that part is over. I had never had anaesthetic before, so was quite nervous. I didn't feel too bad afterwards until I became very dehydrated while in hospital. That made me feel very unwell, and I had to stay in the hospital for an extra night, just in case, as my blood pressure was very low. I didn't drink enough water after the surgery obviously. The doctor told me afterwards that I had a hiatus hernia-apparently he finds that in 1 in 4 patients, caused by being overweight. I was surprised at how sore I felt, though the pain seems to be getting better really quickly. I'm on fluids only for 4 weeks. The doctor suggests staying on the protein shakes and soups that I had for the 2 week pre-op diet. They taste very nice and saves cooking, so am happy to do that. I also have been having lots of diet jelly. I have learnt so much from this web site. There was another lady in my hospital room who had the surgery on the same day as me, and she had no idea about how the band works. She didn't know that there wasn't really proper restriction until the fills, and didn't really know about the fills either. I was amazed. I'm really grateful for all the info. I've learnt from this website
  2. I'm having the lap band surgery tomorrow. I haven't told many people. I was very worried about telling my parents. I thought they would really disapprove of it. To my surprise, they thought it was a great idea, and thought I should get it done as soon as possible. I think they have been worried about my health for a long time. They cannot be more supportive. They are lending me the money to have it done, my father is taking me to the hospital while my mum looks after my children, and my mum is making herself readily available to help me in the days to come. I haven't told my sisters, as I don't think they would be supportive at all and would probably try and talk me out of it. But they are both very trim and fit, and don't know how it feels to be obese. I know that I will have to tell them eventually, but I want to wait until I feel confident that I have done the right thing first. I was so surprised about my parents support. I feel very lucky- they just want me to be healthy and happy, and know that it's not possible with the way I am now. I also have been losing and gaining weight since I was 12, and I'm so tired of it all. I've had enough of the yo yo dieting. I know that I still have to be disciplined and be careful about what I'm eating, but it'll be nice to have some help with it
  3. Thank you poohlvr- i wish you all the best for the 19th- please let me know asap how you go.
  4. Rachel1972- where are you having your surgery?
  5. I would like a copy of your list too please. It's funny, I thought I was strange to be looking forward to a night away from home where my 3 and 1 year old little boys won't be waking me up all night! Surely, I could have thought of a better way to get a night away from home-sadly not. Thanks for your encouraging words. It doesn't sound like you were very nervous going into the surgery. I'm pretty sure I will be.
  6. In Sydney, St George Private Hospital- and you?
  7. Hi- have never posted a thread on a forum before- actually didn't know of thier existence before now. I am having the lap band operation on the 28th Sept. I weigh just over 100kg (don't know pounds) Am feeling excited but am a little anxious, as haven't had an operation before-and feel nervous when I've read stories about people that have regretted doing it.
