  1. Good to know! I'm making myself crazy.
  2. I'm right there with you. I am not eligible till Jan 2 either. So I started my 6 months of Dr supervised diet visits in June, had my sleep test done, got diagnosed with sleep apnea (one co-morbidity), now it's wait and live vicariously though the lives of those on BP who have had the surgery and are loving life. I know I have to have 5 yeas of weight history, so I have a OBGYN appt in Dec, I'll get that from them. I printed off my bank statements over the past 2 years showing I paid for WW and Nutrisystem (both!). I attended a REAL seminar at the Bariatric Center and they give a packet of info that must be completed and provided to the center on the first appt. Once January comes, I'll enroll, get an appt with the surgeon, and I'll have Psych tests to do, endoscopy to do, Nutritionist visits to attend. I think I'm pretty prepared. but I do research every single day, and have done so since February. 5 of my friends had their surgery this year. I so want to be on the losers bench with my friends. Best wishes to you!!
  3. What the heck?!! Congrats!! Who's your insurance co??
  4. Wishing you the best! I just enrolled in my company's health insurance also. My Hubs insuranceexcludes it, and he's retiring in 2 weeks anyway, so I'm paying the big bucks for PPO for the first time in my working lifetime. Can't wait for January 2nd to enroll in the insurance company's bariatric plan and schedule my appt with the Bariatric Center. Been prepping for this all summer with monthly Dr visits (they want 6 months of this) getting my sleep study done, along with a shiny, brand new cpap machine. Now it's hurry up and wait. I'll be watching for your updates. Keep us newbies posted!
  5. So excited for you! You'll do great! Keep us newbies posted!!
  6. I'm so glad this thread is here. Not that I would wish this on anyone, but I am at a point where I feel like my health and happiness are just as unimportant to my husband as they are important to me. Biggest fight we ever had in 27 years was today. I'm crying now, and have been all day. He accused me of not ever wanting to do ANYTHING since I decided to have the "weight THING" as he calls it. The day was going great, then he decided he wanted to go to the casino, which we had both decided months ago to not visit again, due to no self control. He will be retired soon, and we will have even less money. I told him I didn't want to go. I have laundry, dinner, dishes, WORK to do. I didn't want to go THERE.(I told him I'd go anywhere but there) So, the fight happened. It got super ugly. Lots of hateful things were said by both of us. I am not going to give up on my dream of health and I am having this surgery whether he likes it or not. I just don't understand. He married me thin. He must have loved me thin once. Why is he dragging me down like this?????
  7. Congratulations! I see you are in Missouri. Anywhere near KC? I plan to use KCBariatrics and Dr Hoehn. Keep us all posted on your recovery and progress!! All the best! Sherriee
  8. Mnmist: congratulations on finally being on the other side of the stress of waiting for the surgery. Keep us newbies posted on your progress. I am still waiting in the wings, (I admit to being a sleeve stalker). I'm relishing in everyone else's successes till I finally have my own. As they all say...walk...walk...walk...sip...sip...sip. You go girl!!
  9. I attended the seminar this summer in preparation for this. I've also completed 5 of the 6 month supervised dr diet with my PCP ..............also in preparation for this. My health insurance kicks in on January 2nd. I will be calling my insurance, enrolling, (they tell me I have to "enroll") And I assume I will be directed where to go, when to go, who to see, what to do, etc.
  10. good questions! I wanna know too!
  11. HI Jarod! I am just beginning as well, but I have read through most of these forums of the past year, and I have seen that they will accept photos of you in lieu of the 5 year weight history. Best of luck to you on your journey to great health and well being!
  12. I hear ya, kbuska. My hubs tried everything he could think of to talk me out of my decision to have the WLS. But, when my mind is made up, it's made up. He knows I am trying to lose a little but before my 5th supervised Dr appt,(just to prove I'm trying)......(one of the hoops). He comes home from work every day mad I didn't make dinner. Um....I haven't made dinner since the last son moved out 8 years ago. Why should I start making dinner now? You are a grown man, you can feed yourself. Oh, and it's an argument every weekend.....he wants to go to the "free" casino BUFFET!! REALLY?! I don't want to go to a buffet! EVER AGAIN. I don't like them, anyway. The food is aweful, and no telling who all has sneezed in it or touched it, or how long it sat out. No thank you. Can't wait to see what arguments we have after I have the surgery. Maybe by then he'll realize I meant it.
  13. This is so dejavu!! The pulmonologist I saw after my sleep study told me the same thing. He said he would not be authorizing WLS for me, because I am not big enough. He said I needed to be closer to 400 pounds. Wait...WHAT?? Crazy stoopid Dr!! For one thing....I don't need YOUR authorization, Mr MAN!! I know I qualify, and why would I wait till I was that large if I can take care of it now, and achieve health and well being? Some of these Doctors are not very bright.
  14. YAY you! How are you doing? Lucky you, to now be on the losers bench! I can't wait to join you!
  15. I wish I could've done the psych eval early. I suppose I could still, but I am going to wait and use Dr Sabathy at the center. Might just as well do whatever is left to do with them anyway. My Birthday is in February. Maybe this can be my (early) birthday Present!
  16. I've been told i will need endoscopy that kc bariatric will do. Plus psych and nutritionist visit. Hope not to have to wait too long.
  17. Makes sense devoted04. I selected the UHC PPO, which my coworkers who have had the surgery already advised me to get. I pay higher premiums, but only have $750 Deductible and $1,500 OOP maximum, Of course, it isn't in effect till January 1, 2015, so I am sitting on pins and needles. I did start my 6 mo Supv diet with my PCP in June, so that will be done. Got my sleep study done this summer also, and am now on a C-pap. My BMI is right at 40, so once I get the 5 years of weight history from my OBGYN, I should be hitting the ground running January 2!!
  18. I'm in KCK. Really close to the Pavillion. I live right off K7. Really praying the hoops I've gone through in the last couple of months will help me qualify sooner. still having issues with the hubs accepting this. Every time he sees how much I'm going to be paying for health insurance he tells me to just go back to WW. Yep! That really helped me the last 3 times I went there. They may be one of the reasons why I'm considering the surgery. So many diets in my life destroyed any metabolism I had in my body. Tonight he got home from work upset I didn't make dinner, so he says "lets go out to a buffet" I say no, we have food in the house. So he is moping. then he says "you really are bigger than you've ever been". Way to make a girls weekend.
  19. The open enrollment package has been sent out, and I'm super excited that Dr Hoehn and KC Bariatrics hosp are both Tier 1 and "in network"!! I never thought I would ever be sooo excited to pay for health insurance, when for all my life we never paid a dime (hubs ins was paid for through his employer, paid 100% of everything, but EXCLUDED anything related to bariatrics...dumb insurance!) I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to click that button to take out the UHC PPO and get this party started!
  20. Krisrpaz, we have almost exactly the same measurements, height and weight. Whoa! Freaky!! I am still waiting for open enrollment for buy insurance thru my job. Won't even be able to speak to my surgeon till after January.
  21. I plan to use the KC Bariatrics Center of Excellence with Dr Hoehn. Just waiting on Open enrollment in a week, so I can be insured.
  22. I am in Kansas, and hope to have Dr Hoehn do my sleeve. I went to the seminar 2 weeks ago. What made me laugh, was how nearly everyone was so concerned with when can the start smoking again! REALLY?! You're having surgery to become healthy and you want to still smoke? Anyway...right now I don't have the insurance for the surgery. My hubs insurance excludes it, so open enrollment at my job is next week, and they cover it. So, I will take out insurance with them, and hopefully after January 1, start the qualifying process. Maybe I'll see you there at a meeting. I'll put a photo of my up on here as soon as I have one that isn't all chins! lol Here's to a healthier new year!!
  23. From your lips to Gods ears! (as they say) I am hopeful I have some wonderful mentors who have been through it, and are coaching me.
  24. All the ladies I work with who have already been through this tell me I am worrying over nothing, just get to the appointments, keep seeing my PCP every month so he can honestly say I did a Dr Supv diet (ha! I've been told not to lose), and the bariatric center of excellence will get me approved. It seems everyone at my office has had it done, or is in the process. The waiting for open enrollment is KILLING me! I just want to get this party started!
  25. New here! I really gotta know...what are they looking for with the 5 year weight history? Since I have been on a diet since the day I was born (it feel like it anyway) my weight has been up and down, could never keep it off. But in 5 years I am certain some of those years are less than BMI of 40. Can anyone shed some light? I've done internet searches, and can't find anything to tell me what they are looking for. I am BMI 41, sleep apnea, and upon open enrollment in October, will have UHC, also.
