Keep your head up and try to be patient. I know its easier said than done though. I have been working on this for a year with my mom. She had surgery almost four months ago while I got denied by insurance and spent three months fighting with them to appeal. While she was in the operating room I was writing my appeal letter while I waited. I was very very annoying and persistent with them and I think they finally just approved it so I stopped calling them every day. My surgery is scheduled for September 22nd and I just started my preop diet yesterday. Its very very nerve racking but will be soooo worth it.

I finally got my approval and surgery date! Surgery will be September 22nd its Four months later than I thought but its way better than never.

Appeal appeal appeal and don't give up!! I have been fighting with my insurance and their medical cost management company since May 4th and I finally got my verbal approval on Monday. I am waiting for my official letter to schedule. Make sure to document EVERYTHING and call constantly. Ask for an insurance advocate so you only have to work with one person. Write down names, dates and times to every conversation and send everything by certified mail and get fax confirmations. You will get approved they just want to drag their tails and make you work for it. I am so glad your husband is doing better. My mom had open heart and it wasn't an easy thing to see her go thru and its my main motivation to get this surgery done and get healthy.

Has anyone ever heard of being required to see a psychiatrist for 12 months and then getting your behavioral clerance? I have been working on my approval since October 2013 and submitted everything May 4th to insurance and was just told I did not meet this requirement. I have never been told this even after multiple phone calls to my insurance over and over regarding requirements. I can't find anything online regarding this requirement and my psych doctor and my surgeons office have never heard of this. I wrote an appeal letter and sent it so I am crossing my fingers. This is BCBS of Il but is thru a Labor Union.

I plan on calling my insurance at least once a week and I am pretty sure they are already tired of hearing from me because I have called them soooo many times in the last 7 months. They are a labor union thru my husband's work so I have nooo idea what to expect with them. I call and ask a million questions just to make sure I have done everything thats required. I am also super nervous they are going to deny me. I have been working on this since early November.

My insurance is reviewing my file finally. I never thought I would get to this point. They say it will take 30 days but I really hope it doesn't take that long :/ I was really hopeing for June 9th or June 16th date but I am not sure thats going to happen if they take the full 30 days.

I have been working on the requirements for my insurance for the sleeve surgery since November 2013. I finally finished the 6 month weight management on April 4th and didn't find out till they were going to submit to my insurance that the doctor doesn't recommend the sleeve surgery based on my endoscope results. He wanted to do lapband which I didn't agree with so I switched doctors and finally everything should be submitting by the end of the week for gastric Bypass. I am hoping for an early June surgery date but am not getting my hopes up yet.
