  1. Like @@Dub my only regret is not doing this earlier in my life.

Believe me, there will come a time, 3 months. 6 months a year after you've had your surgery, that you will look into a mirror and not recognize the person starring back at you. You will be in the middle of doing something, and pause, not because the old you would be out of breath, tire, sweaty or exhausted, but because you realize you can do this and you are not out of breath, tired or exhausted (sweaty is a good thing). You will be out with friends or family, and someone, who hasn't seen you is awhile, will talk to your friends, and realize they didn't recognize you. You will have people talk to you, and treat you like 'normal' people do... You will notice, no one is glaring at you. There will come a time, you grow tired of explaining what happened to you or what you did to loose all the weight. You will also become proud, because people compliment you and say nice things about you...

This is the ultimate price we have paid.... I wish you the best of luck, as you continue your journey. Yes, we have all stumbled at times, but we get back up, because we can, and work harder to do the right thing.

  2. I too, came from a small midwestern town... and Catholic... and a mother who opening said disparaging words about 'the gays'... as I look back, I could have come out of the closet better, then I did, but I haven't looked back and have been happier ever since, along with my husband of over 2 years and my lover for the past 12 years... I am truly a lucky man, as he has supported me through my decision and my transformation. am also lucky to have family (yes MY FAMILY) and some friends that love and respect me... Even my dad is happy about my husband (a son, he wishes he had... as he is much more handy, when it comes to plumbing, electric and general fixer upping, than myself or my two brothers)... To you all, I am happy to ready about your successes as we share this journey we call life!

  3. Well I sadly have not been blessed with BIG feet, but I do have wide feet. If memory serves me right NB shoes come come as a model number and once you did find a pair you liked, it would make it easier to purchase that same model on line (I hate shopping). I use Merrells, because of the arch support. Since my surgery, my feet have changed and now can fit comfortably in regular width shoes, I am currently on my second pair of my new shoes, I still wear an old pair, for out door lawn/garden work (they are very loose). Good luck on your choice... keep moving

  4. I agree with OKCPirate, and like him, I too had my surgery in Mexico. Another piece of advice, call and talk to your health insurance. I work for a hospital, which ironically performs bariatric surgeries, but our health insurance specifically does not cover any bariatric surgery, so my only alternative was self pay.

  5. I would start the process, by researching what type of surgery would be the best fit for you. From my research and experience (I am a nurse, working in the ICU). I have seen more complications with the lap band. The seminar I went to, the Doctor said the #1 surgery isn't the lap band or the sleeve, it is the conversion from the band to the sleeve, because of complications. The band is NOT intended as a permanent process, at some time, you need a second surgery to remove it. I am not trying to persuade you in any direction, but informing you of the process I took. Having bariatric surgery is a personal decision and a LIFELONG commitment. I wish you all the success as you start your journey and welcome to the guys room.

  6. I agree, I was furry before surgery and now I am like an ape! I do shave... I actually enjoy getting my back waxed. My hair, even what is left on my head is very fine, but it is like my head hair migrated down my back... so getting it waxed isn't a terrible feeling, although I do have a high pain tolerance. I actually wondered how that device worked out? I shave my head, but I constantly miss spots and I would imagine the same thing would happen with my back, as I wouldn't be able to see my back.

  7. I am a nurse and was wearing 2XL scrubs, people were complimenting me on my weight loss but stating I needed to get me scrubs. I waited until I stabilized a bit and bought size L scrubs. In my casual life I would wander through the nearest thrift store for new clothes and 'dream' clothes. Again now that I've stabilized my weight I am slowly working to replace my clothes. My big purchase so far was replacing my leather coat... good luck on your journey
