  1. So I have my 6 month visit with my doctor on Tuesday and I feel terrible I have only lost 60 lbs. The scale has not moved in the last month but back n forth between the same 1-2 lbs. It's very frustrating, some days I feel like I'm over eating and others I'm barely eating only to see if I can get this thing to move. It feels impossible how in a whole month, I'm still in the same place. I'm starting to feel like a failure and I swear I will start crying if he says something about my weight when I see him. I missed my period, I'm 14 days late but all tests come back negative. I went to the OBGYN and she said she doesn't think I'm pregnant but was going to take a blood test to check my hormones and also test for pregnancy. I'm hoping this is why I'm stuck because if not, I don't know what else to do. On top of all of this, I've been losing so much hair since July I feel like I'm going to a funeral every time I comb or wash my hair. I want to be happy losing weight and looking great but I can't even put my hair down anymore because I feel people can see through it. Just so sad How much did you guys lose in 6 months?

    Rash on stomach-pics

At our first meeting before surgery..there was a woman there that said she was allergic to the brown liquid they put on you to cleanse your skin prior to surgery. After her surgery she developed rashes and Water bubbles. So much that her whole stomach peeled off and she had to wait for the skin to grow back. That looks more like a rash from the adhesive. Your skin may be sensitive to it and you may have developed a rash from the allergic reaction. It doesn't always show up right away. My skin is allergic to neosporin. Sometimes I forget and put it on a cut and then almost a week later I develop a rash followed by blisters. I'm also allergic to medical tape, my skin will peel right off with it. You may be going through something similar

    Ditching the protein shakes

I've never drank shakes or any Protein drinks. I just couldnt stomach them at all. It was either drink them and vomit or not drink them at all. I chose the cleaner option. My nurse told us at our first meeting that if we couldn't get the Protein Drinks down, we could drink a glass of milk and it was fine.

    Lower Back Pain

I am about 4 months out and started having back pain. Nothing like I've experienced before. I was telling my brother who also went through weight loss surgery about 10 years ago. He's always had back problems but they became a lot worse after surgery. He was told by his back doctor that it was caused by the muscle loss in his back due to the surgery. This may be the same reason you all are experiencing this. I've been working out and trying to build my muscles back.
  5. I started out at a size 20-22...I didn't get new clothes until I was a size 14-16..I was swimming in my clothes..but I wanted to hold on as much as possible until anyone could tell the clothes were way too big for me..I put all of my bigger clothes to the side on my closet and folded them..when I had enough I donated them..I then went shopping and bought a lot of things on sale, clearance or I found pretty cheap..I also went to the thrift store..I bought all together maybe 4-5 new outfits..and I've been mixing and matching those for now..I will probably do the same and hold on to them until the are noticeably big on me..and then again put them to the side and donate them...and go bargain shopping!!

Water Intake, How do I Eat Soup?

I've eaten soup just fine..a few times.. no problems..I was never told not to eat soup..some people say they aren't allowed to eat any carbs at all...meanwhile when I had my visit with my nutrition specialist and nurse...they asked me what I ate for lunch..and then told me I can eat some crackers with it..it's fine. We have to remember that our eating can change over time..and just because something was "forbidden" before..doesn't mean in 6 or 12 months it still is.

    March 2014 sleevers

I was sleeved on 3/19 and have lost 60 lbs. I am feeling better and I'm not so stressed anymore about what I'm eating, how much, when, etc. I felt like I was always thinking about food and trying not to mess up. I hate Protein, always have. I haven't been able to drink any Protein Drink so I just stick to my meats and milk, cheese, etc. I also eat special K protein Cereal sometimes for Breakfast. I am addicted to watermelon since surgery..it just tastes so refreshing and juicy. I loved it before but now its just wow! lol ...I only drink Water and gatorade sometimes. I use wraps for sandwiches but won't eat it all mostly to hold everything together..I've been feeling so much better..my body doesn't ache anymore from all the extra weight and I just signed up to a gym so I'm hoping to start that this week. The only I guess bad thing is that my anemia was very low. I had to go for intravenous Iron therapy for almost two months every week. I go for my checkup next month to see how my levels hold. My hair has also started to fall out in the last two weeks...it's so depressing especially since my hair is already thin..but I just keep the faith that I know this will pass..I expected it..I just hope it goes away soon..as far as sizes...I used to wear a 20-22 pants size and now I'm in a 14 that's already starting to get loose...shirts I used to be an XXL and now I'm between a Medium and Large depending on the shirt..I don't regret doing this and if I would have known what I know now I would have done this a long time ago..I'm greatful that everything has gone good so far and I'm just hoping things will get better as more weight comes off..good luck to you all..and congrats on your accomplishments!

    Trouble swallowing pills?

Is this a Vitamin that dissolves? I have bariatric vitamins in this shape and they dissolve in your mouth. I'm 4 months out and I still don't swallow pills. Prilosec I open it over a spoonful of Water and just drink. I'm having a hard time with the dissolvable vitamins..they're disgusting. I'm thinking of going to regular vitamins and crushing them. No way would I try it whole.

    What was the point?

I am six weeks out today..and trust me..I was in your exact place a few weeks ago...I did not lose anything weeks 2-4..I even gained a few pounds back and forth..but I would never go lower than what I lost in my first 1-2 weeks..Then in week 4 I got my monthly visit from..AF...which even made it worse..I cried and was so depressed week 2-4..but I noticed that towards the end of my period..the scale stayed the same...that's when I knew..finally!!!..as soon as this is done..the scale has to go down...and sure enough it did...another 5 pounds within the next three days... Just stay on track..and you will get stuck along the way..but don't give up...your body just needs time to adjust to the weight loss..and not feel like you are in starvation mode..imagine..you just lost over 20 lbs..in such a short period of time..your body is like what???..no way..I'm saving everything...and that's what it does..until the weeks go by and your body adjusts..and then it feels ok to continue.. I was very upset and kept reading about the 3 week stall..and didn't believe I was in a stall..I thought I was just stopped..and the scale would never move again...but just don't focus so much on the scale..but instead on how you are feeling..losing over 20 lbs..is amazing..just know..it won't end there..sometimes you won't lose anything for a few days or weeks..then all of a sudden you will drop..just continue and have faith..and you will see things will get better and you will begin to feel better about your decision and your new life.

    March 2014 Sleevers

Yes, every doctor is different and I have felt fine..the only thing I've had a problem with was the eggs...I had surgery two weeks ago and starting tomorrow I can begin regular textured food no more mushy food..except red meat, vegetables and I can only have soft fruits. On my fourth week I believe is when I can add those in.

Crackers are better than bread. Some Drs allow bread but it must be toasted because bread expands. I have tuna with two crackers and it's fine.
  12. I know, that's what everyone tells me.."well you just have to drink them"..that's not so easy when your gagging to try to drink it and the moment it hits the stomach your trying your hardest to hold it in before running to the bathroom and letting it all back out. I can't stomach it at all..as much as I tried. I know this is what I need to do, but there's no way I'm going to be sick to my stomach gagging and throwing up every day all day to get this in. I just can't do it..especially causing more damage to my stomach when it's still healing.

    March 2014 Sleevers

I had surgery on 3/19/14 and was so sick with the pain medicine Dilaudid I was throwing up after surgery because of it. I asked to be taken off of it and wasn't put on something else until the following afternoon. In order to get through that, I slept the whole time in the hospital. By the next day I was getting up only to use the bathroom on my own. They took me to do the xray with the iodine drink to check for leaks..man that drink was horrible. The third day I walked the halls a few times and I started to feel better moving around. I took the pain medicine for a day or two at home and that was it. The cuts hurt a little, but I felt better when I put a pillow on it for pressure. I slept mostly on my sides holding a pillow to my tummy to feel better. When eating and drinking after surgery I noticed I kept having gas and hearing gas sounds. I found that if I breathed through my nose before I swallowed that helped a lot in reducing the gas. Now almost two weeks post op, I don't have as much gas, it feels like it gets better along with everything else. We did something very drastic to our bodies, and our bodies need time to heal. In time, it feels like everything slowly gets better. The only real problem I have now is that I'm not getting in as much protein as I should be able to. Mostly in part because the protein shakes/powders makes me sick. I'm trying to find another way to get them in, but with the minimal amount we are able to eat now, it's a little difficult. The worst thing I tried so far for me after surgery was eggs. I ate about a half of an egg, wow...it just got completely stuck..but I didn't want to throw up..so I sat up for about an hour for it to pass.. The best thing going down..I actually was able to eat a full cheese stick..I peeled it slowly very thin and chewed it really good..I couldn't believe how easy it went down without any pressure at all. They have about 9 grams of protein each so that is great. I've been eating the following with no problems: oatmeal, farina, yogurt, pudding, jello, ice pops (blue bell is the best!), tuna with two crackers, refried beans, beans, mushy cereal, deli turkey and cheese, and milkshakes that I make with frozen fruit and milk with honey. I just feel like its impossible to get everything we are to get in throughout the day. I joked with my boyfriend and he said I need to wear those hats with a straw attached to it to keep sipping all through the day..lol ..oh well we'll see how the next few weeks go. Good luck to all!

    Inner Ear Pressure Problems Post-OP?

This happened to me yesterday..I was wondering what was going on..glad to know I wasn't going crazy lol
  15. Hi everyone, I was wanted to see if anyone can help. I have tried various different Protein powders, drinks and Isopure drinks. I have tried various different kinds and brands. I can only get about one sip in before I start getting nauseous. They all make me sick to my stomach and I just can't take them. I'm worried because I've been trying to get in as much protein as possible, but I feel that without these drinks, I will never reach the high amounts of protein needed after surgery. I eat chili, refried Beans, cheese, yogurt, milk, etc. However, putting the small amounts of all of these together in one day, there is no way I can make it to what my body needs. Is there any other way to get protein in? Are there any supplements that we can take in a pill form? I don't know what else I can do but the Protein Drinks make me too sick to my stomach to the point I'm gagging while trying to drink it.
