Super Great topic! Funny enough, I'm usually an open book but for some reason I knew exactly who I would be telling and who I wouldn't, personal life and work. I only told my boss who I love and is very cool and one of my very good co- worker girlfriends. I feel weird sometimes because I am super close to 2 other guys at work that I share a lot with but I didn't tell them. I may tell them after but for now, it's fun having something of my own My advise would be to only tell people who you know will support you. That's all you need right now!

Thank you for this TOPIC, I've been comtemplating as well. When I went to a support group, I mentioned that I felt bad about telling a lie and she replied with great advice, "There are two kinds of lies; one that will hurt people and one that doesn't hurt people. The one you're telling is okay because its a nice way of keeping them out of your business". That made me feel better.
It's still a challenge as I work with more men than ladies, and they're not so nice. However, as some of you have mentioned, I may be comfortable later to tell my story.

So I told my boss I was going to be out for WLS and she acted all sad for me. Like really? You just need to exercise and eat right....you need to make more time for you....and started telling me about her obese friend who lost over 100 lbs on her own. Then she told me later that if i have it, I just need to be honest when people ask me how I'm losing weight. She said a friend of hers had surgery and then told everyone she was doing Water aerobics. That was one of the first people I told outside of my family and the negative reaction stuck with me the rest of the day. Unfortunately, I do not have tough skin and it bothers me when people try to shove their opinions down my throat. So for now, I've decided not to tell anyone else. Did you tell anyone outside of your family? If not, how did you answer the "what are you doing to lose weight" question. I know it's my body and my business but just curious how you all handled it. 4/16/14 is my date...

We all are very nervous, anxious, etc before surgery its totally normal. The way I look at it is I researched and read up and I just knew it was my only option to be healthy. If u are a praying person just pray that God takes u through this and helps u get back up again after surgery. Im 4 1/2 months out and its so good to eat to live and not live to eat. Thats what I tell everyone. Being sleeved was one of the best decisions of my life.

I am just in the beginning stages of the process and have only told two people I work with. My Zumba partner and my ex sister in law. My ZP was super supportive and excited for me, ex SIL was a little surprised. I will not be telling the grouchy, gossiper. Especially because she has a snide comment for every person when they take even an hour off work. So I can imagine her reaction when I tell them I need two plus weeks off lol. I think my supervisor will be supportive but I am still on the fence about what to tell her. She does know that a hysterectomy is a possibility for me in the future so maybe she will just assume that is what it is. I still have months to think about this though as I haven't even met with my surgeon for the first time yet! Good luck in whatever you decide to tell or not tell!

Thank you! I know I'm making the right decision and that I will be so glad I did, afterwards. It's just getting through these next two weeks and trying not to over think everything. I'm so glad you had a speedy recovery and are doing well. Good luck on your journey!

I pretty much tell everyone I love my choice and dont care what other people say!!!!! I am doing this for me not them and unless you have delt with the struggle of being obese then you have no idea and most people that dont agree with it are small in size!!! I am the one who is taken my life in my own hands and I will get back to being healthy and happy....Oh and SEXY!!!! Just nervous about surgery!!!! it is a very scarey thing

The first couple of weeks you will be eating Soups and other liquids. The purees starting at week 3 can be most anything. I pureed chicken and tuna and added a little sour cream and a little light mayo for chicken salad and tuna salad. I cooked a roast in the crock pot and pureed that in the food processor as well but not till week 4 or 5. I wouldn't waste a lot of time pureeing a lot of food since it will only be for a week or two. You can use grits, oatmeal or scrambled eggs as a meal too. I just altered the food I cooked for my family. If they wanted hamburgers I would just cook some loose ground beef and have that with a little bit of mashed potatoes. It was tasty and went down very well. You have to plan your meals but don't over think things, its easier than you think.

Awesome. That's another great way to think about it. We eventually will be the ones telling people not to be nervous and our success stories.

This is a pretty common response. You can probably do a search on "freaking out" and find a ton of posts. It's normal. You'll do fine.
    Best of luck to you.
