CDP1965 reacted to gee.r in Foul gas since bariatric surgery
I’m now 13 months post successful gastric bypass surgery. What can I do to eliminate foul gas?
Family are fed up and I’m nervous about dating (I’m divorced ) a,loud flatulence b, smelly & loud flatulence.
I have been taking Probiotics, 1st brand was unsuccessful and 2nd brand has made difference but not cured the problem.
I know in the States you can buy Devrom, but it’s unavailable in England at the moment plus the cost is prohibitive!
    Any suggestions?

I'm 3 months out and have just started tolerating solids. I still get almost all my nutrition from yogurt and Protein Water. Try the protein water, it is easier than shakes, imho. Do check with your doctor. Mine wasn't worried at 6 weeks, but he did send me for additional testing at 11 weeks. But as @Pearldrop says, we're all different and some of us heal more slowly. And I agree with @shelly420, this is a great opportunity for weight loss if your protein intake improves. Hope all goes well.

I couldn't each much of anything until month 4, without throwing up. Take advantage of the time when you can't, you lose weight much faster. Now that I can eat more, my weight loss has slowed way down. Those months when I couldn't eat really helped me to mentally get used to eating way less.

Ok. Dr said I was rushing food. Back to liquids and puréed foods for me. Yuck! My stomach isn’t ready for the food yet.

Hey Oregonians. great to see you all here. nice to read about different stories and doctors too. Legacy is approved by my insurance, so I would most likely use Dr. Patterson.

I have included several recipes for high Protein Soups and chili in the article How I Survived Bariatric Surgery. These generally have around twice the protein content as store bought soups and chili. It is available at http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

So at this very moment I am sitting in a theme park holding everyone's bags because I am too afraid I will be turned away at the rides. I hoping I get my sleeve by July . I really pray this is the last time I miss all the fun because of my weight.

I did kind of the same thing but I made a hard boiled egg and blended it in to powder pretty much and I had 1 tsp of it mixed with a little mayo and some spice. And I got chewed out from my doc like I had just tried to kill my self or something. I was a couple weeks post op at that time.
My surgeon is one of the strictest but he also has done around 6k of these WLS's and has only had one leak. Three weeks liquids and three weeks pureed then move to soft.
I am seeing that every surgeon is different on post op diet. It make me wonder how each ones record is. Also every body is different as well. I have had no problems at all and others have a hard time. So be careful what you try

Well I hate to admit it because I am supposed to be a big tough guy lol
But I was nervous as hell the night before surgery and the day of. I did not let any one know but I know my wife had me figured out. I was very quit and watched every one like a hawk lol so she knew I was uneasy.
I think it is natural though. I mean it is a big decision and there are always risk and always in the back of your mind you wonder if it is all worth it and will it work.
Them feelings will go away or lighten up. You will get through it and it will be well worth it
I know my belief's helped me also when I handed it all over and relaxed

I looked at it this way if I didn't do it now, I have 2 pages worth of medical condition's that are waiting to enter my life.
Life will be more frightening if you didn't have surgery!
Thanks! I just dunno if I'm ever going to not be scared. Not saying its a bad thing.

I was also, then I thought about my family, and my 2 precious boy's. I did this for them. I did it so I can live a healthy life, and see my family grow. I'm 8 weeks out, still a newbie, but so far I am happy I made the decision.

It's so true about not knowing when your hungry! Again, I thought I was the only one to feel this way. I've spent so many years eating and eating and eating that I really don't know what true hunger is.

I eat on a plan. Three 3 oz meals and two Protein Snacks a day. The timing varies according to my schedule for the day
I do it this way because after 60 years of dieting and failing my idea of when I am hungry is so screwed up that I can't possibly rely on it to tell me when and how much to eat.
I am almost three months out and down 52 lbs. so will continue to do it this way. I find recording everything very helpful. It reminds me to eat clean and carefully.

If I only are when I was hungry most days I would never get anywhere close to my Protein goals and I would eat less than 300 cals a day, I know because I have tried it. I know it works for some, but not me.
I don't exactly eat at scheduled intervals anymore (almost five months out, earlier I did) but at general times of day. Protein shake before I take the kids to school, etc.

Our surgeon gave us the best advice ever. He said do not eat 3 meals a day, eat only when you are hungry, and really hungry. This works so well for us because we were both sleeved. I keep things such as fresh guacamole, chicken salad, cole slaw, string cheese, boiled eggs, tuna salad, in the fridge for a bite or two during the day, and at 5 months post sleeve we are having a light meal a day, such as the Greek salad we shared for dinner last night. We take good Vitamins, our labwork has been great. I have found the more I eat the hungrier I seem to get. I was told at 3 months out to back off eating so much Protein, to drink no more Protein shakes, so I make sure I have veggies added in daily now.

I guess what I was trying to say was that yea, even tho it went down ok, it was not as satisfying due to knowing how to do better and me kicking myself for it.
My mind was weak for the test but not the urge..No more! Done deal!

Why would you want to eat fried food? It IS self sabotage, especially so close to surgery. No judgement here, it's your body, but why eat something I'm fairly certain is not on your nutritional plan?
    Edit to add:
Oh my! I just noticed you are only six days post op! Aren't you supposed to be in liquids or puréed foods?
