    All happening so quickly!

    Was banded 2 1/2 years ago. Lost 92 lbs in 6 months. Had to put back 15 lb as Dr. said I was oo thin. You usually go on a liquid diet before surgery to shrink the liver as it has to be held out of the way during surgery. The smaller the liver the better. I have had no problems with the band. The band is not a magic solution as you can defeat it or any other bariatric option. You have to make a life time commitment to follow what you eat. There is no occasional beer or piece of cake. You have to keep track of what you eat at each meal. Till today I weigh everything before I cook it. I recommend My Fitness Pal app. to keep track. I wish you well.

    Arthritis meds after surgery

    I hate to call someone out but birdlands reply is super insensitive. I have severe arthritis. Losing weight did nothing for arthritis pain. If you think Tumeric is the answer than take it but don't lecture other people to follow your anecdotal beliefs. I am on Daypro and cannot live without it. My Rheumatologist prescribes it and Pantoprozole. I have regular checkups to keep tabs on the band and 2 1/2 years later no problems.
  3. I had a lap band because I wanted to know that it is reversible. I have lost all the weight that I needed to in the first 6 months. I have changed the way I eat so as to maintain. I went through this process and would not do anything that would lead me to gain my weight back. I would never remove the band unless there was a medical reason to. To remove the band would put me back to my dieting times that always failed. If the band isn't causing any problems why change? People have to realize that they cannot go back to living the way they did before surgery. You have to realize that you have to give up lots of foods to be successful. none of these cheating meals,beer,chocolate carbs,etc.
  4. I had lap band surgery in March of 2014. It took 6 months to loose 92 lbs. Too much of a loss. Had to put back 15 lbs. Have no problems other than if I eat too fast or drink while eating. Lap band requires life style changes or it can be defeated. I had a lap band as it can always be removed. This has been the best decision that I ever made.

    2nd fill...enough?

    Best to wait a week after a fill. I am a year and a half out and I cannot eat red meat other than chopped meat. I am OK with this. I find a lot of people will not give anything up. We have to give things up. We did not become overweight because we ate right. We have to learn a whole different way of eating.

    Plantar Fasciitis

    I also had PF. About 15 years ago I had a simple operation on each foot about a month apart. I first tried all these exercises and inserts. They did nothing for me. The foot Dr. recommended the procedure. I was able to walk without pain immediately after the surgery. Dr. don't like to do this procedure but for me it was instant relief with no side effects.

    Did I understand you correctly? You lost 52 lbs in 3 months. Thats 17 lbs a month. That's fantastic. At that rate you will achieve your goal before you know it. It took a long time to put the weight on it will take a while to loose it. Hang in there. You will achieve your goal.

    Damn scale!

    I would hit a stall for 2-3 weeks. Then suddenly 5 lb loss. Hang in there. PS I weigh myself twice a day. I don't want to find out at the end of the week that I put on 5 lb. Easier to compensate when you may have added 1 or 2 lbs.
  9. From personal experience I find when something gets stuck the worst thing that I can do is try to wash it down. This will cause me to throw up. I always was the first one to finish my meal. You have to slow down and take small bites. Chew your food than chew some more. I also find that I can't eat red meat. I can eat hamburgers and meat loaf. Everyone has to discover what they can tolerate and what they can't. Best wishes.

    No carbonated drinks ever. No juices. Juice is very high in sugar. Natural or otherwise. I drink iced tea.

    Considering the Lap Band!

    First let me say it took me 2 1/2 years to make a decision to have lap band surgery. The surgery was really not anything to complain about. A little discomfort for a day. They kept me for 3 days because of other factors. I had always had acid reflux. The surgeon repaired a hiatial hernia. This cured my acid reflux and was able to discontinue my ppi medication. I was just about the same height and weight as you are. I lost 90 lbs. in 6 months. This was more than my goal but I am comfortable at my present weight. I do not feel the band but you can feel and see the port. I was lucky to have needed only 1 fill. At the beginning I limited myself to 800-1000 calories a day. It wasn't too difficult but you have to keep very careful records of what you eat. Use My Fitness Pal app. if you can. I count calories and watch carbs. This is contrary to what the weight loss center teaches. Eat Protein first then veg. etc. NO CHEATING. The only problem I have now is with red meat. I can only get chopped meat down. I have very little trouble with other food. Everything has to be moist. I now eat 2300-2500 calories a day. No deserts till today. Hope I answered all your questions.     Looking for someone to talk to.....

    It took me 3 years to finally make a decision. I would do it all over again as this has been one of those life changing things that has produced fantastic results. This is not an easy decision to make. You have to be ready to change your eating habits and the way you look at eating. Lap band surgery is a tool. It can be defeated easily,but if you are ready to change this will produce great results. Hang in there and best of luck.
  13. My own experience tells me that calories and carbs are the biggest contributors to weight gain or loss. I enter everything into My fitness Pal. I keep a scale on the counter to weigh everything that I eat. I have exceeded my goal and to keep from losing any more weight I have to eat about 2300-2500 calories a day. No Pasta, bread, or rice. No candy, cake, ice cream. NO CHEATING. I see postings where people cannot give up this or that. DISASTER. WLS is not a magic bullet to allow you to continue to eat as before. It is a tool to help but you ultimately are the one who has to make the intelligent choices.
  14. Time for a reality check. We all dream. Make the dream realistic. Loose the weight first then make you plans.
  15. I think that trying to maintain by removing the saline would be the best option. This way if you see yourself putting the weight back on you can go back and have a fill. I have met people who have not kept up with their weight loss Dr. and put all their weight back. If we could control ourselves we would not have a weight problem in the first place. Good luck.
