I log food. I watch but am not obsessive about my carbs. However my nutritionist recommended I keep calories low (currently between 700 -900) and carbs at no more than 50. I am vegetarian and my carbs can get a little higher. However they are from the plant based Proteins I eat. I avoid most "white" carbs like bread, pastas, white rice, crackers, etc.... One thing I have noticed is that those types of carbs can be like the never ending monster. If I have them I start to crave them. As long as I don't have them, I am fine. I also try to eat according to my day. A day like today that is a non gym mostly chill out day I eat lighter.

Jersrose43 reacted to IcanMakeit in So confused? Thought I did my homework
I was pretty uninformed before I had WLS. Two sisters and a niece had gastric bypasses years ago, and watching them, I did think that having WLS meant never having to diet. I thought they just naturally ate less and that was all it took to lose weight and stay thin. I quickly learned differently. Both from this forum and from talking to my sisters about their actual daily reality. I had been observing them at family gatherings. Their day to day eating patterns are very different from their party habits.
I don't think everyone who has WLS will have to count calories and log their food forever. Some people will succeed in retraining themselves to eat healthily and exercise daily and then stick with that new lifestyle because they enjoy their new healthy habits. Others will be like I suspect myself to be. We'll need stay accountable and formalize our diet rules, stick carefully to them and be able to go back and see our intake to make sure we stay on track. I'm only just beginning maintenance, but I think I could easily "go over to the dark side" without careful monitoring.

My BFF shared with me that she uses her loose tummy skin to *ahem* "caress" her husband when she's in certain positions. She treats it as an extension of herself...he loves it, and she is unashamed/unapologetic about it. I think it's all about attitude.

I'm going to be completely honest...if I hadn't found Bariatric Pal and taken a pre op class, I would have thought the exact same thing. My husband had a Gastric Bypass almost 9 years ago, and he literally ate whatever he wanted for 8 years without putting the weight back on. Although they are two different surgeries, in my naivete, I thought I could do the same after my surgery. I'm so glad I got educated! This has been hard enough doing things the RIGHT way, lol.
By the way, the lax attitude about his surgery did catch up to my husband eventually. We both quit smoking before my surgery and he put on 30lbs....it scared him so he has been working hard to get it off, and is almost there. But he knows now he has to watch it from here on out. His pouch is pretty much stretched out at this point

Jersrose43 reacted to cockapoomom in Mindfulness and Meditation
Hi, I wanted to let anybody who struggles with head hunger, boredom, negative thoughts, self acceptance issues, depression or anxiety to research Mindfulness and Meditation. I myself have struggled with them for a lifetime , as well as trauma issues (don't we all?).
Recently, I've made use of what is called "mindful thinking"and implementing it as a new way of identifying with myself and my world. It's become helpful in locating the core reasoning behind certain thought patterns and coping, including my obesity. I believe we all have the potential to succeed not only with our health and weight loss goals, but relationships, work, finance and overall sense of well being, but sometimes we let our emotions and thoughts get in the way of our success.
I know a lot of people out there are already aware of the benefits of mindfulness and meditation, and that is awesome! But, just in case somebody out there struggling is unaware of this liberating method, I feel obligated to share what mindfulness has done for me in hopes it compels them to learn and grow from it.
I also thought it would be a good thread for others to share their experiences and inspirations.
Good luck to everybody embarking this journey and may all your dreams come true! I can't help but feel gratitude for all the good that is to come to each and every one of us!

I think I can add to this discussion. I do so without the benefit of seeing the actual report, the actual images, examining you, etc.. Given that:
That it reads: "Mild circumferential narrowing of the mid body,"... it doesn't seem that you had a complete sleeve; i.e., it wasn't done the full length of the stomach. You don't have a "banana"-shaped stomach, a narrowed, tubular-shaped stomach, as you now should.
Get the op note--the "operative report/note"--from your surgeon. See what size bougie he/she used. But it ~seems they left your stomach too big, didn't really cut the full length of it, and only narrowed a portion of your stomach. With that, you likely still have a lot of ghrelin circulating [hunger hormone], and of course, greater stomach capacity. The greater curve of the stomach may not have been excised.
Also get any "discharge summary" --in fact, get ALL your records from your surgeon, to give to your current doctor. And if you have any previous stomach imaging reports, they'd make for a good comparison. Also, there should be a pathology report of your excised stomach portion; it'd be interesting to see its size. Again, request ALL your records from the surgery.
The good news: no abnormalities are noted, and you have lost ~ 50 pounds...though I know you'd expected more pounds lost by now.
Get those records; keep doing what you're doing and see what the new doctor says, and what any future imaging reveals. Keep us posted.

I'm going to go ahead and throw out the thought that the title and the original post in this thread makes me really sad. I hated that episode. I hated her life and I hated what she did to herself and her family. That said, all we were shown were snapshots of her life for the sake of ratings.
We don't know the real story, why she got that way, what she faced that wasn't shown... Is she "crazy"? I don't know. Is she very very mentally ill? I'd wager yes.
She has taken a beating on this site so many times as well as in hundreds of other forums. What if she's reading this? Do you think it's helpful in any way? Is this form of fat hate any different just because you (general/plural) also experienced WLS with more success? If anything, I think it's worse because you (general/plural) should be able to empathize...
    I'm out.

Jersrose43 got a reaction from New Nic in Has anyone become single as a result of their weight loss surgery?
@pinkbunies. If you read the responses and other like threads you will see that it was NOT the surgery that causes the relationship to be lost. It was the underlying causes -- communication and lack thereof.
Relationships that had other undealt with issues, complacency in a relationship, having settled for some
I had surgery. My biggest coach /cheerleader/supporter and best friend is my husband of 21 years
He lost weight the old fashioned way and is keeping it off.
His high weight was 230 and today he's at 170. Took him 5 years. We ate, excercise and did everything the same. I gained 20 pounds in that period.
I am his biggest supporter and he is mine

@@nprcowboy I realize it's frustrating but you actually sound like you are where many of us were early on post op. Instead of comparing to your wife perhaps try viewing this as your reset. Imagine you are a few weeks post op. It may be slow going but I'm crossing my fingers this is your new starting point.

As to why people go to Mexico. What I've seen posted is the top reasons
    1- I don't have insurance
2- my insurance specifically excludes it.
3- I don't want to be bothered with 6 or 12 or more months of nutritional counseling.
4- I got denied a couple times - or once- and don't want to go through hoops

so, a huge NSV for me this weekend, I went shopping at the mall for the first time since surgery for new clothes. (bypass surgery 7/4/14 and down 101 pounds so far!!) (I've been to places like Savers and goodwill buying things here and there, but this was my first mall outing). I went into stores I've never stepped foot in... and I BOUGHT there too! WOOHOOO! I went to H&M, Aeropostale, Forever 21,just to name a few. So, since this is a whole new shopping world for me, where are some stores that you like to go in now that you're on the losers bench? My old go-to store was Dressbarn for Women, and I'm so happy to have a new variety of stores to shop at. Please share your new favorites- whether in store on online- I'm in the shopping mood!

I think it's a great idea too! I might freeze a few things separately as well just so you can try each food individually first to be sure you can tolerate each one on its own before you eat them together. It's really interesting what things your new tummy won't like after surgery. I always hated iceberg lettuce and made salads with any other lettuce but that... now its the only kind that doesn't upset my stomach. Weird huh? It's great that you're thinking and planning ahead!

Sounds great. My only suggestion would be to separate the chicken and gravy and freeze individually. Something about the freezing process can sometimes change the texture. I also don't cook my green Beans before freezing. I find they get too mushy when thawed to cook.
