Well, I decided to make a doctor appointment since I had not seen my band doctor since 2015. I ended up getting a small fill and got some advice for dropping these last 30 pounds. This won’t be easy, but I am back on my 800 cal a day plan for now. It’s been a long time since I ate so little.

I plan to keep my band until the grave; obviously, if it was a medical necessity, I would have it removed.
I guess you can call me a "lifer".

JWM. There was no explanation with Alex’s statement and picture of a perfectly intact band that was out of his body. I kinda looked up to him at 15 years banded as a great example.
I continue to try to stay underfilled, yet effective. Balancing act, huh?

I haven’t been online much since my surgery and wanted to update everyone on my progress. I’m no long an MGB patient. My surgeon revised my procedure to a full RNY Gastric Bypass. After performing the MGB, my stomach had active bleeding due to severe erosive gastritis secondary to my Lap-Band. Having had long term exposure to a foreign body (my Lap-Band) for 15 years caused me to have Barrett’s esophagus and sever erosive gastritis. My surgeon had to redo my entire WLS procedure again to insure an optimal outcome. In my case the RNY was the indicated procedure. Thanks to everyone who has reached out over the last week! You concern and caring words meant the world to me.

I was one of the lucky ones that did not experience much gas pain or any other significant pain. No port pain at all, either. My gallbladder removal surgery a few years earlier was far more painful. Good luck and happy banding!

Hi. Usually there is gas pain in the shoulders and maybe some pain in the abdomen. Other than that, that's all I experienced 8 years ago. Wishing you well!

Happy fourth birthday to my LapBand! It’s changed my life. Am I at my goal weight? No. But I am 107 pounds less than I was before surgery, and absolutely everything has changed. My blood pressure is under control. My knees don’t hurt as much. I’m off of all NSAIDs and painkillers. No more s leep apnea. Cholesterol normal. Blood sugar normal. I can walk for miles. I can take the stairs. I can wear normal shoes. My closet has a much narrower range of sizes, and I wear nearly everything in it. I own a pretty bathing suit and I swim in public.
When I stopped overeating I began to feel my previously numbed feelings. I divorced my emotionally abusive husband. I put down all alcohol and p ills. I had 2-1/2 years of therapy. I joined self help groups, and still go.
I bought a new house and started over. Last summer I got brave and started online dating. (Meeting a new fella tonight.)
Would I do it all again? In a heartbeat. Does the LapBand fix my brain? Heck no. This is still hard work and it always will be. But it does help me physically. I’m not hungry all the time. With that hunger gone, I can more effectively work on the mental and emotional issues that drive me to f ood.
To all newbies, I just want to say I’m a happy bander. Good luck to all of you.

Not too many of us left just remember that no matter what surgery you had to stay focus on you and stay committed to a change in lifestyle. I always used to eat after 9:00 pm so I started to go to bed around 9 so I would take that temptation away. I also do a lot of walking so I get up around 4:30 am to make it happen.
You will need to decide what works best for you.

I just had a fill last Thursday and I wish I would have gone in sooner! I had a lot of Fluid removed in mid-December because of problems with heartburn and that weird jaw pain that comes with it for some of us. I gained 15 lbs. Sigh. I think most of it was from beer and ice cream, lol. Anyway, I have already dumped about 4 or 5 lbs and I am definitely feeling a huge difference in restriction and satiation. No heartburn, either! Onward and downward!

Lapband has been great for me. I am about as healthy as anyone I know, on no medications. Had band 12/31/2006 with never any problems. I keep my band tight so my diet is restrictive which I need. I will be retiring end of May am 66 and plan on doing a lot of biking. For my retirement present I bought a really nice bike. I try and do at least 1 century every year (100 miles) and bike several thousand miles a year. I never would be able to do that without having this surgery and getting my health under control. For me it has worked great as a tool. I still work at being healthy every day. It is just a tool. Love my life.
I like that it was less evasive than other surgeries. Everyone needs to decide on what works best for them.

    10/2014 was my band surgery...from 250 to 136.
So far so good....knock on wood 😉 I eat a ton of Protein, drink lots of Water and exercise everyday.
Some things took a while to learn, can usually not eat till afternoon. Gotta chew....a lot. And nothing to drink with my meal.
But all in all I wouldn't change anything

Will be 10 yrs St. Pat's Day. Lost 90 lbs. Never had a complication. Never abused it. Went to a teaching hospital w/very experienced surgeons. Have read all the studies over the last 10 yrs. Has the worst outcomes and the most complications for all the WL surg but the complications are more minor than the others and band is only 1 that is reversible. I had to learn a lot and be very persistent. Took me longer to lose. There's no guarantee that you won't need/want a revision with any of the WL surgeries - see the other forums and read about them. I have friends who have had bands, sleeves, and by-passes who have all regained everything and given up. But I have friends who have bands, sleeves, and by-passes who are doing fine. My best advice is to pick the one that sounds best you and then work that program. It's not easy - but I'll tell you this: 1 don't have high blood pressure anymore. My cholesterol is great. No pills. No medical problems anymore. Joints don't hurt anymore. Climb stairs. Had several cosmetic surgeries and love buying great vintage clothes. Love having so many people tell me how good I look. Walking on the edge of the ocean at 66 yrs. Just pick a WL surg and then dedicate yourself to it body and soul. Best wishes.

I found an ap the easiest. ive never used Baritastic, but myfitnesspal can save meals and allows you to copy over days or meals at a time. I found that a real time saver as i often repeat the same meals. 10,000 steps a day is what i did. You've got this!

    Congratulations on your band b-day.
I too appreciate my band and how it has allowed me to change the way I look at what I choose to put in to my body and how it feels good to be active again.

Hello it’s been years since I have written anything or commented. I had a lap band in 7/2012 & removed 8/13 due to nausea, choking& vomiting. Extreme psi entire time where port was ! This was a hard year. I vowed never to revisit Bariatric surgery again. Well - I started a new journey oct of 2017.... now on the road to a sleeve procedure my 6 months is up in April ... I am a nervous wreck but I have many health reason to try to do this!!! I will keep you updated. I personally would never recommend a lap band But that being said it had worked for some .. best future to all!!

I had my 4 cc ban put in September 2007, the only problem I had with my band was when it was to tight. For me I cannot have more than 1 cc of Fluid in my band. I firmly believe that without this tool I would now be over 400 lbs.
What ever surgery you choose is not as important as the commitment to a total Change in lifestyle to allow the tool to assist you in your life journey.
