  1. You know you've had WLS when..... You freely discuss your BMs with strangers on the internet. ????
  2. @@MiltonMommy, you are not alone. Fear of gaining is real and I've read your experience here before. I think my surgeon's office and hospital support group meetings have just done a good job of scaring me early on! Also, I'm 53 years old with arthritis and other crap going on, and I tend to take after my mother physically. At my age she was hospitalized with an emergency bleeding ulcer that almost killed her. All due to an arthritis NSAID that burned a hole in her gut without her realizing it until she passed out on the bathroom floor. They tried to cauterize it laproscopically but failed, and so she had open gut surgery in the ER. That experience affected me and made me very conscious of stomach care. If my late dad who had dementia hadn't found her and had the presence of mind to phone for help she would have died. Anyway, I didn't enter into WLS lightly (few of us do) for these reasons. So I am real cautious about an overly tight band.
  3. When it's the first really chilly morning of the season and you realize you have no jacket in your closet to wear because 1) you were so pumped up about your weight loss you gave away all your fat clothes and 2) you are still losing so you still haven't bought a new one. Brr!
  4. Ok folks, today is Thin Thursday! Fasting for me. What that means today for ME is I started my day with 4 oz prune juice light (sigh) and my coffee with yes, cream. Half and half actually. Gotta have my coffee. Probably two mugs full this morning. I brought my Water bottle and have some Mio drops to help keep me drinking water all day. I'll go to Subway for lunch and get a spicy Italian chopped salad and cup of broccoli Soup. Without added oil that's a lunch of 470 calories. I found I don't need oil if I have enough banana peppers in the salad. Then at six pm I am meeting a friend for walking and talking for a couple of hours. That will get me through my day and I plan to hit the sack early with a grumbling tummy! I am SO psyched to be doing this and not weighing in the morning as well. I'm so glad others have hopped on the 5:2 train with me!
  5. @@SillyAuntDi, you're amazing!
  6. I'm so glad you had fun! Woo hoo!
  7. No but it kinda makes sense. They stuck a tube down your throat for anesthesia and maybe bruised some of your vocal cords or whatnot. Be kind to your voice for a few days. Maybe check with your surgeon too.
  8. "Weightloss can help prevent reoccurance and even with knowing this I still can't control my food on my own!" Yep. Obesity is a disease. If knowing equated to fixing, none of us would be on these boards. Good for you getting the surgery you need to live a long and healthy life. You deserve it and we are all here for support. Good luck!
  9. @@MiltonMommy, thanks for your post. I'm six months post banding and scared of going too tight. Can I ask why you were tight for so long without an unfill? Throwing up all the time? My team stresses all the time that I shouldn't be getting stuck or throwing up if I am eating small bites and chewing and eating slowly. They put the fear of God in me about throwing up and causing my band to slip. So my last two fills were very very small ones as I approach the green zone slowly. I'm so glad you're giving it another go. There are many people on these boards who are coming back from a difficult time like yours. Good luck.
  10. You're gorgeous!!!!! Look at you! I am so inspired. I have the baggy saggy skin too but it's under clothes so for now I'm ok. Eventually I may try to have insurance pay for a panniculectomy. I'm documenting skin issues with my general practitioner right now. I started a prescription powder about two months ago. A plastic surgeon I went to listen to recommended that people who were planning future plastic surgery take these steps way ahead of time. A paper trail with your general practitioner is critical to lay out the argument that the excess skin should be removed for medical reasons. Anyway, I haven't decided of course if I'm doing it or not. However, I'd like to keep my options open. Congratulations on your wonderful success!
  11. I agree with B52. Often the most critical people are obese themselves. It hits a nerve.
  12. I just bought some Sunsweet Prune Juice Light. Nice lighter flavor and 50 calories for 4 ounces. We'll see.
  13. Not usually a food coward, but I can't bring myself to try sushi or sashimi. I know, I know.
  14. Soups are always a good go-to meal. Buona Beef has a great soup. Subway has soup too.
  15. No Moe's near me but Chipotle does those. Good idea.
  16. I rely on fast food for lunch breaks and sometimes for Breakfast. Occasionally dinner. That habit isn't likely to significantly change. What must change are the food choices from those places. I've made these band friendly choices so far: Wendy's chili Subway chopped salads Not so good for weight loss so saying buh-bye for now (saying buh-bye forever is too sad): Popeye's chicken strips (fried) Starbucks mozzarella and tomato panini (carb-y) I know I am not alone. Many of us rely on takeout for our meals. What are your band friendly choices?
  17. Ok I just ate a Quest Cashew Coconut bar and it was indeed delicious. Sticky yes and hard as heck to unwrap and it looks like a turd (yes I said it) but it was good.
  18. "agitation helps burn a few extra calories" I should be a size two by now.
  19. @@lisacaron, keep those "long ass posts" coming. They help me a lot. I can relate to so much you wrote.
  20. Quest cashew coconut tastes great but it's so sticky I can't stand the texture. But it's not sickly sweet so that's good. They are here in my desk and going nowhere. Bought a whole carton and ate two. Someone suggested refrigerating them. Maybe I'll try that.
  21. Sorry to all who are having a hard time. It gets better, really, and when it does you will be glad for the life saving change you made. But for now I'm just sending comforting hugs.
  22. Normal normal normal! I'm a bander but this is a post op issue. Your body is reacting to surgical stress and dietary shock. Trust the process and stay on course and trust me it WILL come off again at a good pace. The time window you're in is known for this "adjusting period" and weight loss stops for a short time. Congratulations and good luck!
  23. Okay so today is Wonderful Wednesday. I can eat what I want. I started my day with a reduced fat cheese stick and I found myself craving almonds today so I just had some. Not quite lunchtime yet but I went to track them as a snack. Well lo and behold, I got a wakeup call. I thought I was "measuring" an ounce (a fistful, right?) of almonds. But then I decided to count them out. Holy c**p. 48 raw almonds. I looked that up in MyFitnessPal and 24 (!) raw almonds is 240 calories. Half of what I was going to eat as a snack! I grumbled and counted out 24 almonds. Ate them, slowly. Felt good. 24 was enough. I know this is not a "diet", so I will eat sensibly the rest of the day based on what I want. Fasting tomorrow. But WHAT an eye opener with the portion! I know @@Bandista once mentioned carrying almonds in small jars pre-portioned. I need that trick because my eyeballs really want to underestimate my portions. I'm allowing myself to eat what I want on non fasting days BUT track scrupulously. To track honestly I have to be honest about portions. There. I said it. Whew!
