Day 18
Head hunger isn't cured by WLS. But it's a process. I find if I HAVE to eat, I take a few bites of something healthy like watermelon and then interrupt the process for five minutes and then most times I don't need the rest.

Say no to Lap-Band video
I guess I think of my band differently. Or maybe I had really good screening. Or maybe it was the support group meetings I went to all over the suburbs before going under the knife. Or maybe it was Alex's book. Or maybe it was BariatricPal. Whatever it was, I knew from day one I would have to change my habits. I also didn't expect miracle weight loss. What I did expect and still do is not to gain the weight back after I lose it, and to feel fuller on less food. It does make you wonder because so many people have to fight insurance nightmares to get lifesaving WLS, and others just.... Well. Enough said.

Why is my band SO inconsistent?
I read somewhere or maybe it was a nurse who told me that when you sleep at night, the effect of gravity that we see with swollen feet at the end of the day reverses. The blood that would normally be in our lower bodies redistributes. This means everything above my feet is a little more swelled when my feet are a little less swelled. Sounds weird but it explains why my band feels tighter in the morning.

Banders #6
@@Bandista, be careful. I've been told Tylenol and alcohol are dangerous together. It's hard for me since I usually take Tylenol daily in the morning and if I have a drink in the evening I basically hope it's out of my system. We can't win. Nsaids harm your kidneys and acetaminophen harms your liver. Pick your poison. Interestingly this week I have less joint pain. Even in my hands and elbows. Weird since I had such horrific flares this summer. I know it's due to stress levels but I'm thinking it has to do with diet too. I've eaten way less processed food the last few weeks. Maybe it's had a positive effect on my inflammation. Hmm.

Banders #6
@@F_it don't apologize. I learn about a lot of things from fellow BPal members and I appreciate the info. My mother almost died in 1990 from oral Voltaren that she took for arthritis. It burned an ulcer in her stomach. She dropped on the bathroom floor and was rushed to the ER. They tried and failed to cauterize it laproscopically. She had emergency open surgery. She can't take another nsaid for the rest of her life. She had no symptoms except for fatigue the day she fell. So I for one appreciate first hand information.

Has anyone experienced low BP and HR after WLS?
She's had episodes for about four years. Only six or seven times total. She's learned that Claritin raises her BP so during allergy season she's fine. She's passed out in church three times. I worry because she goes to an out of state college and next semester she will be studying abroad in Europe. But so far no incidents at school. Twice it occurred after she slept in (really really late) on a weekend. The doctor said you dehydrate when you sleep a long time. So she was given lots of tips, but you know teenagers.

My doctor says that gastric banding is a waste of time.
My doc recommended sleeve but gladly banded me. He performs lots of bands. However, I haven't seen him since my first post op follow up. I always see the fill nurse.

Has anyone experienced low BP and HR after WLS?
@@stephh, my daughter has that. Scared the hell out of us. She's 19 now. Doctor said she should get more sodium in her diet. She's six feet tall. I've read different articles about taller girls having it.

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week
Just saw your post. In my desk I keep almonds and pecans and Quest bars and beef jerky. Not too helpful unless you have a grocery store or 7-11 near your work. Good luck!

Question regarding restriction
I'm sorry to hear this. I'm still finding my way but I think I've found my green zone. I will tell you that makes ALL the difference. Can you try to get a fill under fluoro soon? Like mentioned above, I had to learn to obey my band. I love pork chops. My band does not. I had to give them up. I tried to force it but the band won. As I'm closer to/at my green zone, my eating has had to be more thoughtful, slow and obedient to my band. I still want to wolf my first bites down when I'm hungry. This is disaster for me now. It wasn't that way two months ago. But I have more fill in my band and an unchewed bite of meat or chewing my second bite before the first one has even started its way down is a recipe for getting stuck. Again, this didn't happen two months ago. I rest my band twice a week with a single 500 calorie meal on Mondays and Thursdays. It's not for everyone but it broke some bad habits for me that I was doing. One thing I don't feel restriction on is salads and soups. I can eat those for an hour and not get filled to satiety. So I choose to have those rarely now. I like them but I want to lose weight and I want to feel the band tell me to stop. Please talk to your team about how and what you're eating before you give up on your band. Maybe it's just some habit changes that are needed. We worked too hard for this tool to toss it out unless it's the last resort. I haven't looked at Bandista's links yet but she always has good advice. So I'll check those out at home later. Good luck. You're worth success. I hope you find it!

Sugar Free and Fat Free?
Ooh la la! I had no idea I was now eating like the French! I hate fat free anything and sugar free stuff too. One low fat item I surprisingly like is Trader Joe's Light Mild Cheddar cheese Sticks. For some reason they taste just fine to me. I usually have one as my Breakfast. As for anything else, like sour cream or half and half in my coffee, etc, no way. Real deal or why bother. I was never a huge diet soda drinker but I don't miss it a bit.
