Do You Attend Support Group Meetings?
I went faithfully the first year to my own hospital and another one. They were both very far and difficult to get to after work. I miss them. I do go to OA but I don't really talk about WLS.

Baby I'm back, back, back on the CPAP
It's a process, right? That's how I feel after I went back on a second blood pressure med this month. I was so sure that particular rx was a thing of the past. Oh well. I need to maintain a normal BP, and you need to sleep. Taking good care of ourselves isn't always done exactly how we would want it , but we have to do it.

Going back to work
Take it easy. Lots of bathroom breaks and remember to drink water. Good luck.

Never Gets Old
I fit in theater seats. The final years of my marriage, my husband would sit one extra seat away from me because we were both so big that we were crowding each other at the movies. That's a depressing snapshot of our relationship right there. By the time I started losing weight, we weren't going to the movies together anymore. Now I go alone and don't bat an eye if someone sits next to me. I can fit, they can fit, and they don't mind being next to me because I'm not spilling over into the next seat. Yesterday I pulled out the one outfit I saved from pre surgery. It was a pair of jeans and a top. The top was very loose, but the jeans were enormous. I literally got both legs into one leg. It made me smile and be sad all at the same time. That was me. This is me. I don't ever want to return to those days. But it could happen. I don't ever want to forget that.

Surgery 12/1
Congratulations! Take good care of yourself. Welcome to your brand new life!

Anxiety post surgery anyone?
Nope. WLS was absolutely the best decision for me. It's hard but living obese was so much harder. You can do this. Just surround yourself with support and keep to the program. Once the weight starts coming off you'll feel better. I did!

Anxiety post surgery anyone?
Please do get help with this. And beware, it is easy to turn to alcohol during this time. I myself had to give it up completely. I practice deep breathing and I see a therapist for my divorce. Life is very stressful and without my old comfort, food, I don't want to turn to anything else dangerous. Take care and keep posting.

Where did you all lose weight from first?
I've always lost in my lower body first, then face and neck, and belly last. No exception with WLS.

What to do about extended release capsule medications?
I was surprised to find that I am still able to swallow my extended release blood pressure capsule, which is even bigger than a Tylenol caplet. I had to go back on it several weeks ago and I was nervous. But you may just want to try. If you're able to swallow a Tylenol caplet it may give you a reference point.

I can: Cross my legs Eat a normal size meal Stop eating before "full" Walk a LOT sleep much better Wear the same clothes a year later Fit in an airplane seat without a belt extender Ride a horse Ride a bike Climb stairs easily Shave my legs Dress up for Halloween without wearing a robe-type costume Happily pose for pictures

What will I be when I grow up?
I'm at a crossroads in my life. I've been at one before, many years ago. Back then, I went back to college, finished my degree, dropped 130 pounds, changed careers, and got married. Now, 24 years later, I've had WLS, dropped 100 pounds, am getting a divorce, and am wanting another career change. Problem is, I have no idea what I want to do. People ask me what my "passion" is. I haven't a clue. For 21 years I've been a mom. Now my little chicks are flapping out of the nest, and both will be graduating college over the next 18 months. I'm on my own and will soon be buying my own home as a single woman. I'm 54 years old. I feel like it's time for me to figure out what I want to do. I just don't know where to begin.

Five Common LAP-BAND Myths Debunked
I was driving to work last week and found myself staring into the face of my surgeon on a bus advertisement for LapBand! I was very happy to see he is still actively promoting the band. I've been very happy with my experience.

Take off those regain glasses and turn it around!
My weight loss has stopped. I am going through a divorce as well. I'm taking it a day at a time and finding ways to soothe myself without food. Support groups are very important.

They seemed sane...Dating horror stories
I was inexperienced at dating when I entered college. My equally inexperienced roommate and I read the campus newspaper and saw an ad for what was then called "computer dating". This was 1979. Between the two of us, I was the troublemaker and convinced her that this was a good idea. So, we wrote to the address, and a few days later we each received a long questionnaire in the mail. We were scared but excited. We spent a lot of time filling out the answers. Then we took the plunge and mailed them off. A few days after that, our phone rang in the dorm room. Lo and behold, we had been matched to two young gentlemen who also attended U of I. Let's call them Dave and Joe. Joe was interested in a date with my roommate Mary, and Dave was interested in a date with me. How about a double date? So we went. We met them at a local bar. Here we were, two 18-year-old girls with almost zero dating experience. Joe was super shy and barely opened his mouth the entire evening. Just like my roommate Mary. Dave was a chatterbox, and I tried to keep up with him. A few beers in, and everybody relaxed a little bit. So much so, that Dave decided to make a small confession. Turns out that the computer dating service that we mailed our questionnaire to was simply Dave and Joe. Two computer science students looking for dates. Mary and I were the first ones to reply, and their business was off and running. We all got a good laugh out of that. I actually enjoyed myself, and they were both gentlemen, and acted like they would call again. Although Mary said she enjoyed herself, she said she probably wouldn't go out with them again. Joe was way too quiet, and paired up with Mary, they barely spoke to each other. A few days later, our dorm room phone rang. Mary answered it. "Oh hi, Dave! Nice of you to call!" I was so excited. Way too loudly I shouted, "I'll be right there!" But, alas. Dave was not calling for me. He was more interested in Mary. Boy, did I put my foot in my mouth! Dave asked Mary out. I can't remember if she actually went out with him or not. I think she did, but it didn't lead to anything. So that's my exciting dating story!

New Diet Study that upends everything we thought we knew about ‘healthy’ food…
This is definitely food for thought. I'm having trouble losing my last fifty pounds even though I'm not overeating by any measure, especially compared to how I ate pre surgery. I do eat lots of tomatoes and have relied on large salads with balsamic vinegar. Maybe specific foods like these are sabotaging me and I don't even know it.
