Please just follow your surgeons instructions. There are reasons for them - that are all about protecting you and preventing leaks/complications. You can make it through it!

audefacere got a reaction from docbree in PROTEIN PUDDING! OMG!
I'm 6 days post op and surprisingly getting my fluids in without a problem. The issue I'm having is trying to get in my Protein since I'm since in full liquid diet phase. I've never gotten more than 40 grams Protein in one day which is frustrating because I know the more protein I get in - the better I'll feel. My NUT suggested protein pudding and ohmergawd it's amazing!
1 packet of sugar free vanilla instant pudding (or any flavor your little heart desires)
2 scoops of Isopure Creamy vanilla (or which ever flavor your have)
2 cups of Skim milk
Whisk for 3 minutes or until it sets. Separate into 5 small containers.
Servings 5
Calories: 122
Protein: 10 g

audefacere got a reaction from ❤️lovemysleeve in Tea
I'm 6 days post-op and I asked my NUT on day 4 if I could have some tea. She said as long as I cut it with fat free milk then it would be ok. Sweetened with splenda of course.

audefacere got a reaction from Monasongbird_38 in 4 days post-op : feeling more normal day by day
I would try to stick to your pureed diet as much as possible. Your stomach is still so new and non-pureed meat might really damage your new sleeve. I know it's hard but it's temporary and it will be worth it in the end.

audefacere got a reaction from curvycurlyfit in 4 days post-op : feeling more normal day by day
I was sleeved 10/27 and I only had a one night stay in the hospital. I had not complications and no nausea. I did have gas bubbles really bad the first time I tried chicken broth. I got really car sick on the way home but I didn't throw up. When I go home I felt really overwhelmed and had second thoughts about going home so early. I was able to sleep off my doubts but it wasn't until today that I started to feel less weak and more normal. I have been able to get in my yogurt, milk, and Water. I haven't had any nausea with any of the food I've tried on my full liquid diet. My pain level has definitely diminished but I still have JP drain in which tugs sometimes uncomfortable. I get that taken out tomorrow which I'm excited about. All and all, I'm feeling less helpless and more like this was the right decision. Plus 5 lbs lost in 4 days isn't bad!
How is everyone else doing?

audefacere got a reaction from Elode in Liquid diet
Hey Everyone, I'm on the other side of the pre-op diet. (Post op day 5) I had never stuck to such a strict diet before but I knew it was all worth it. Did I get hungry, yes! Were the craving unbearable, not entirely. When I was having a bad craving, I would get up and do something or chew on a piece of gum. I even had to bake 40 halloween cupcakes for a bake sale I had volunteered for. The whole time I had my partner taste everything for me so I would know everything came out yummy without cheating. I've read about doctor's opening up patients and closing them back up and not doing the surgery because they hadn't lost enough fat around their liver. And I didn't want that to happen to me.
Just keep your head down and keep trucking along. It's hard but all worth it.

audefacere reacted to Anewlife2live in October Sleevers?
Hi Betts69, Yes. I'm on my preop liquid diet and it is EXTREMELY HARD. It's for 2 weeks.
Breakfast- Protein shake
Snack- sugar free Jello and Water
Lunch- Protein Shake
Snack- sugar free Apple sauce and Water
Dinner- Protein Shake and 1 cup of veggies
Then, another Protein shake
This diet is teaching me DISCIPLINE because I have to cook for my family. Whenever I get hungry, I go find something to do with water handy. I love YouTube so I'll find motivation looking at before and after videos of people who have been through this and I feel so much better about this decision. Anyhoo, I am doing pretty good with it. I also think about how close I am. I only have 2 MORE DAYS.

audefacere reacted to par1959 in Alcohol intake
At first it was difficult cutting out the booze. However, after month and learning how to cope with life without alcohol I became awake. It was a incredible change. Now people that drink bore me with their same old stories and drama. Since day one I vowed to not attemp to drink until I reach my goal weigh. Keep the brass ring in sight.

audefacere reacted to Miss Mac in Food panic attack
Many of us who are post-op had what are called "food funerals" where we said good-bye one last time to something that we thought we would particularly miss in the surgical afterlife. The good new is that sometimes one's tastebuds and desire for certain foods are altered by surgery.
At nine months out, I still eat what I want, but what I want has changed. My body's internal systems are thriving on healthy food and daily nutrients. The last thing I want is soda pop, Twinkies and potato chips and greasy calzones.
Going through the phases of pre-op and post "deprivation" helped me to appreciate the value of proper nutrition and Portion Control. You can get through this and live to tell about it. sugar free Jello got me over several bumps where I just wanted to eat my fingers. I agree with Emtabulous that maybe you might want to forego the Food Network for a while.
You can do this, and you will live to tell about it. Good luck.

audefacere reacted to Beni in Surgery Realness
Yes, not to worry, I think would be the aberration. It's super scary. I'm going to give myself a stomach ulcer before surgery. But I have come to terms with it through an analogy. In sailing one of the golden rules is: abandon ship only when you are stepping up to the dingy. In other words, the boat you are in is sinking and the dingy is actually the higher and safer option. With our weight 263, 278 and 265 our boat is sinking. Our heart and all the systems in our body are being taxed in ways that result in a significant loss of quality of life and life expectancy. It is then with the courage of a lone sailor, in the middle of the ocean, that we choose to step up to the dingy. We choose life! Should we look back at our sinking old boat with nostalgia for the once beautiful vessel that it was, absolutely. But it no longer is, what will keep us safe.
Let's rock in our dingy!
