  1. I agree with BigGirlPanties...give it time. Eventually you will find what works for you and what doesn't. @@Luana526 not everyone could "tell" you all those things, because it is different for each of us. I order off the kids menu or order an appetizer and 80% of the time get a to-go box...only 80% because a lot of times DH will polish off what I leave LOL. After surgery, I had to give up my morning coffee...it hurt my tummy. I was afraid to try it again, but several months later, I can once again enjoy my morning cup of Joe. I still have a problem with plain Water, but some of the flavor enhancers have really helped with that. My Vitamins made me sick and my doctor had me hold off on some of them until I could handle a pill/capsule. I use Calcium Chews now, because the berry chewable ones still make me nauseaus. My biggest problem is remembering to eat slow. I'll be fine until all of a sudden I'm not. You just can't "go back" to the full point..just have to wait it out. Give yourselves some time. As your new tummy heals and you can add more variety, it will be easier. Look forward to things like your morning cup of coffee - it may not happen today or tomorrow, but hopefully you will soon. (While I couldn't always drink hot coffee in the morning, I was able to drink a Chike Iced coffee shake...yummy) Good luck to everyone!

    Pre-op Questions

@@tamg26k I think the office has been great too. Dr. Ricks took out my gallbladder about 2 mos after VSG & that went well too. Everyone has been friendly & helpful. I have not been to a meeting yet, though I've wanted to. Thursdays are usually busy here & it's rough to make the 6:30 meeting from North County after work. You? Maybe we can meet there one day @@Big_Mama Things have been going well and overall a lot less problems than I thought I would have. My tummy was always kind of sensitive so I was worried, but I've been pleasantly surprised at not being sick more

    Pre-op Questions

My pre-op diet was 3 days. They psych eval was a walk in the park..the doctor asked questions & I answered. None of the "problem questions" really applied to me. Good luck! @tamg26k looks like we go to the same office - Dr. Ricks did my surgery

    Holiday Challenge!

Thanks Susan! today's weight 246 GW 236 I've been in a horrible stall, so this may be optimistic, but I will be happy not to gain! Good luck everyone!!!

please help with my class project on obesity

Done! I didn't see the need to ask for race or even gender to see how obesity has affected me. Good luck!

    What’s Your Halloween Plan?

Sweets aren't really an issue for me (but salty Snacks are a whole other story), so the candy for the kids is already bought & hidden from the big kid (hubby)! It is also hubby's birthday, so I will make him his no-bake cherry cheese cake (what he wants every year) too. I bought/hid the ingredients - I'm sure he assumes I won't be making it this year for him LOL

    Zombies in my stomach

Too funny!! Mine is really loud too..especially after eating. Sometimes only I can hear it. Sometimes I think "maybe it's not that loud" and I look at hubby & he is desperately trying to supress a smile! He can't, however, resist laughing when the hiccups start at the end of a meal-the new normal LOL
  8. I had pretty bad diarrhea the week after I came home. It lasted about a week..it subsided as I was able to add some "thicker" foods like yogurt, pudding, etc. If it keeps up, you may want to check with your doctor to ease your mind. Hang in there!

    Indecisive!

Same for me. I liked the idea that the basic digestion process was the same and that my insides weren't completely rearranged. Luckily, my doctor also thought thought the sleeve was a good choice for me.
  10. My employer's STD has a 2 week waiting period. During that time, I was paid sick/vacation time, then the STD kicked in for one day. FLMA paperwork was also completed - as mentioned previously, that was just to protect my job & doesn't have anything to do with pay.

    First (of hopefully many) NSV

Congratulations!! I had surgery in May with Dr. Ricks - hope your experience is as great as mine has been!!
  12. I've been reading all of these NSV's to my hubby since the thread started. This weekend I just started laughing when this happened to me. We both had a good laugh together!!

    HOW many calories?!?!

I don't really care for either one, but thought I'd throw in...a lot of fish are farm raised, but it doesn't matter where tilapia are, they eat junk. That's their place in the food chain..pretty much like catfish and others. They eat anything that is or ever was alive. That is why they are used for cleaning ponds. Thankfully given what they eat, it isn't reflected in the taste of their meat. Good luck everyone!
  14. Well said. I would add that it also entitles you to the consequences/reactions to what you say. That applies to everyone. Being on a national TV show just means you are entitled to a lot more (and probably louder) reactions. Is anyone really surprised Rosie O'Donnell made comments that were controversial? I'm not, but then again I don't watch the view, I can watch women bickering here at work

    Pre-op diet...... Destroyed!

As others have said...just pick yourself up and start again. You will have to do it post-op as well. If we were all able to do this on our own, we wouldn't be on a WLS forum. That said, only YOU can do it. No pats on the back from here, just a get up and do what you need to do. IF it helps motivate you (or at least helps you minimize some of the self-bashing), my doctor's office only required a 3 day liquid pre-op diet. So get back on the wagon and good luck!

    Gall Bladder?

Call your doctor. I had some discomfort, was sent in for an ultrasound and it was my gallbladder. I had it out at the end of July - a cake walk after the VSG surgery! Doctor said especially after WLS, any discomfort in upper right abdomen, the gallbladder is immediately checked. I had one gallstone at the ultrasound, but 3 when they took it out a few weeks later. Thankfully I never had a full blown attack. Good luck & let us know!!

    Greek yogurt ! Help

I too think the Fage is smoother and not as sour. I've mixed in sweetener packets, Torani SF syrup, unsweetened preserves (I get Smuckers-blueberry or strawberry). I've mixed in Protein powder too which can be yummy. Since I'm a little further out, I have also mixed in some fresh fruit. Lately I've been on a Dannon light & fit greek vanilla kick

    I AM BAD....OPINIONS.

I don't think either of you were bad. It take an enormous amount of adjusting..for both of you! The first week, DH didn't want to eat in front of me because he felt bad. Our favorite restaurant is a buffet..seafood, chinese, a large variety. We were regulars (at least once a week) pre-surgery and my husband told the manager I would be having surgery - her reply was no problem, we can just charge the kid's price. About a week after surgery, he softly asked if I felt up to going to the restaurant. I had to laugh at how softly he asked! I had a $2 bowl of soup while he satisfied his craving. Now I can eat other things too but I think I get full just looking at his plate LOL. Just a story to make you smile, but also to say it's hard on both sides. We have one emotional rollercoaster to ride and our family has a different one to ride. Sometimes that is hard to see but in the end, I think you are fine! Don't judge your relationship yet and certainly not over one incident. Now I'm going to think about those biscuits the rest of the night

    Fluids

Hi Kandis, when I was a week out, I found I could really only get down Water if it was room tempurature. I also did some G2, Crystal Light and diluted juice (which was allowed but I didn't care for). I ate a lot of jello! Now I seem to like my water colder (and my stomach doesn't spasm with it). I've also developed a taste for Propel Zero, which I disliked pre-surgery. It's on sale a lot & is at Sam's Club and knowing I will get more water in is worth the cost at this point. I still have a hard time getting all my liquids in, but I keep trying. Good luck! It gets easier
  21. Can definitely relate - and at 5' 10" that's usually not the case! I may have to donate my favorite pj bottoms soon for that reason...hate to see them go, but yeaaa!!

    sad :(

I agree-doesn't sound like much of a friend. I had friends that asked how I made my decision and I respected that. If a "friend" put me down like that, I don't think they would still be my friend. I'm still fairly new and it is truly inspiring all of the encouragement and information you can get on this forum! You will soon find that whatever is happening, you are not alone. Someone has been through it and their story/advice will help & inspire you! I see you're from Missouri. I'm in St. Louis County. Feel free to message me anytime!!! Good luck & be strong on this exciting journey

    So disheartened and defeated.

I was sleeved the month before you and have noticed if my calories drop too low (mainly because I'm just not hungry), my weight loss slows/stalls. I'm not exercising nearly as much as you but usually eat around 800 calories You've done great so far, don't get discouraged! I don't think your post was long either - hope all the comments help you.

Where are all my May Sleevers?

I was sleeved the same day as you & have lost about the same amount. Right now am dealing with the scale being a little higher...just had my gallbladder out on Wed. So much fun to deal with the gas pain & Fluid gain again, but hopefully I will feel much better soon. I struggle with 64 oz of Water too. I'm not a big fan of flavored waters, but some of the Propel flavors have helped me get more fluids in. Congrats to everyone!!
