Any May 20th surgeries out there?

My surgery was May 20th and I am feeling better everyday. Sometimes I think I feel hungry because my stomach won't stop gurgling and churning, but I think this is gas for the most part. I am still on clear liquids until Tuesday 5/27 when I go back to my NUT. Then I will get to start full liquids for a week followed by my 2 week post-op with my surgeon and another visit with my NUT. After that visit I will start pureed foods for two weeks and then soft foods for two weeks. By July 1st I should be able to eat just about anything but in very small portions. I had A LOT of nausea for two days post-op and have not taken pain meds except a bit of liquid Tylenol. I don't have much pain except where I had my hiatal hernia repaired, and that is intermittent. It is getting easier every day to get in my fluids. I can tell that the swelling is going down because my sips are getting a little bigger and there is less discomfort whenever I swallow. I am glad to here that everyone is progressing well. I weighed myself this morning and I am already 10lbs down from my pre-surgery weight and it has only been 5 day

Any May 20th surgeries out there?

I only took two doses of narcotics on Tuesday and have only had some tylenol since then. I knew the hydrocodone would make me more nauseous so I avoid it whenever possible. I am just trying to power through with my anti-nausea and indigestion meds. I have felt better each day. I knew nausea would be a big issue for me. Hopefully that part is now over.

Any May 20th surgeries out there?

My surgery was at 9:30 am on May 20th. I just got home from the hospital. I had terrible nausea all day Tuesday and most of Wednesday. Including a lot of dry heaving, which kills. I've been dealing a bit with gas pains but the majoriy of my pain is in my upper chest from the hernia repair. My incision sites are sore, but completely manageable. I am really struggling to get in my fluids. I am allowed only plain water, broth, and sugar free jello. I will be able to add milk and pure protein on the 27th. Right now I can't imagine getting either of those down. I am happy to be on the other side of this thing and am praying to heal quickly.

    2014 Iowa Sleevers?

I am also from Des Moines. My survery is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20th.
  6. Did anyone's NUT tell them that the first ingredient in the pure protein must be whey protein isolate versus concentrate or anything else? That made it a little harder to find shakes I liked. A lot of stores had whey protein concentrate as the first ingredient snd I was reluctant to just buy online. I tried a couple with my NUT and the were pretty tasty so I am planning to order a sampler pack. I also went to Complete Nutrition and they let me sample their Lean Whey Revolution by Muscle Sport International. 24g protein, 3g carbs, 1g fat and 110 calories. Their chocolate peanut butter and cookies and cream were yummy. It wasnt cheap but a container of the powder averages out to abou $1 per serving.
  7. I started my two week liqid diet last week. I was extremely cranky to put it mildly. I am now just over a week out and while I do get hungry and even hangry sometimes. It is nothing like those first four days.

    3 day Pre-op diet

I am in the middle of my two week preop liquid diet. My surgeon and his nurse said that the diet had two purposes. The first being shrinking the liver and making it more pliable to reduce possible complication during surgery. The second was mental. He said the reason he did the diet for two weeks for all patient was to get them in the proper head space as they are going to have to be without solid food several weeks following surgery. I am currently using Lean whey protein isolate from Complete Nutrition - Chocolate Peanute Butter. It is quite tasty. They also have a cookies and cream one that is tasty too. It has 24g protein and only 3g carbs and 1g fat. ) I hope this helps. Good luck with your surgery!!

Any May 20th surgeries out there?

I agree with you Ozikiwi. There is a lot of difference in all of the pre-op diets. I am on a 2 week liquid diet. I can have skim milk, sugar free jello, pudding or natural applesauce. I can also have oatmeal (no sugar, of course) or cream of wheat, sugar free popsicles, pure protein supplement or pre-made protein shakes and one protein bar a day (minimum of 10g of protein and under 200 calories.) It has been really rough. Especially the first 3-4 days. Feeling a bit better today. I will go to clear liquids on the 19th and surgery on the 20th. Its getting close enough its starting to feel real. I know it should have awhile ago, but I'm pretty good with denial. That's one of the reasons I am in this situation. Lol!
